The interior of the building is breathtaking. Definitely worth walking around inside. There are several cute boutiques and unique stores. The upper floor is full of offices. This is a great place for good photos, getting a unique gift, or just to get in the AC while exploring downtown Asheville.

Brittany LaPrade

Google
It’s a beautiful building, but you can’t access any of the upper floors. And the bottom floor doesn’t have much of anything at all. A few boutiques but that’s it. Don’t let your kids be fooled, the building may be called “arcade” but there is nothing similar to an arcade for kids to play games. The only part interesting about this building is the architecture, not worth stopping off of the Trolley Tour either so don’t waste your time unless you just want to look at the architecture for 2 minutes and walk up and down the street at all of the shops.

Google
Beautiful shopping mall with beautiful architecture. The shopping mall is very small with few shops, but the place looks beautiful. Not much to do in the mall, there are no major flagship stores, but the mall looks wonderful. There are cafes and some specialty stores around the mall, but that’s it. The area around the mall is enjoyable for walking. Parking around the mall isn’t free, and the space is quite difficult to find, even in weekdays.

Google
Beautiful historic and with apartments above it. What a fantasy to shop and live here. Bring lots of money. Arts, furniture, food, clothes, chakra fixing, and anything else. Mostly for shopping but get your food across the street. It may be the oldest mall in America.

Paul

Google
Once called "the most elegant building in America", this is a visually stunning shopping arcade. It's worth wandering around just to enjoy the architecture, and you can take the elevator up a floor to where it's really quiet to enjoy the view from above as well. It's an incredibly impressive and well preserved building, and there was a nice range of shops and boutiques, including some great cake and coffee shops that were worth a stop.

April Lynn

Google
such a gorgeous little shopping mall! lots of shop options inside, my favorite was the metaphysical store. the architecture here is top-tier!! it’s so beyond gorgeous inside! put this on your list when you’re visiting!

Aggie Wang

Google
This shopping center remains me of some shopping centers I have visited in Europe: historical buildings, high ceilings with glass roof, high end shops with attractive window displays, crafted and elegant architecture details. Though much smaller than its European counterparts, Grove Arcade maintains very well and its original charm. Did not get a chance to visit stores inside. But will definitely come back.

Google
They just don’t make them like they used to! This beautiful shopping mall shows how men can do beautiful things when he works with God‘s creation. We don’t have to have gargantuan sprawling structures with seas and seas of park in spaces. Grove arcade is a great example of what we should do. They have bathrooms that are for the public and clean. It is a gorgeous place to get away from the sun or the rain. You can browse and walk around and stop in at the stores if you have some money :-)

Yelp
Gives old train station but in a good way. I had a lot of fun walking around and shopping in a few stores. Proud owner of a new refrigerator magnet and worry stone. The prices for both were great plus the hat store is having a 50% wall sale. Scored a new hat for the birthday man lol.
google avatar

Yelp
I loved exploring here. Beautiful old building with great local shops inside. We had a great time walking around outside afterwards and found lunch nearby at Modesto. I saw another review where someone mentioned that the price to park wasn't worth the visit to her. I would recommend taking the trolley from the visitors center like we did. No worries about parking. The trolley had six stops on its route. When we were done at the Grove we hopped back on the trolley and completed the trolley tour.

Yelp
Originally opened in 1929, the arcade fell into disrepair. It was eventually renovated and reopened to the public in 2002. The architecture is beautiful with a lot of Art Deco touches. The arcade now includes offices and hi-end retail. It is beautiful and well worth a visit.

Yelp
This spot has many restaurants and nice little shops. The architecture inside is what I like the most. I could have walked around for hours to see all the little details. The spiral stairs were my favorite. We were there on a Tuesday before noon. Recommend checking opening times before heading here or many areas in Asheville.

Yelp
Busy but in a good way. Lots of people buying nick nacos. There is something for everyone in that place!
google avatar

Marianna C.

Yelp
Very beautifully made. Small businesses here that I love to support. Every one is very friendly. Nice restaurants. Asheville and neighboring places seem to open later in the day so just beware of opening and closing times. Cute trinkets and stuff for all types of people.

Yelp
Indoor mall. Must try Benettes so good! The architecture is amazing and beautiful. Definitely walk through just to see and look around. I DLdid visit the gem store and there are so many beautiful stones. The history here is rich. And there are some really need stops where you. Can read some of this history . As an important part of the Civil War history, I highly recommend you walk through not just to shop but to educate yourself on some of our past history.

Yelp
While visiting Asheville we went to Grove Arcade thinking it was either a mall or a huge place with video games. It was much smaller and not what I thought. It's a smaller version of a mall with cute boutiques from locals. If you want something different than a mall with local shops and cute vibes, this is your place. We went during Christmastime so it was a great place to spend some time admiring the decorations. The second floor is not dedicated to shopping. In fact, they are apartments! This is very unique. How fun would it be to go downstairs and do your shopping?
google avatar

Amanda B.

Yelp
Highly recommend checking out Grove Arcade for its beautiful architecture. Outside of admiring the building, there isn't much to do. There are some local shops but a lot of them were closed when I visited on a Saturday. Not sure if it was due to Covid or if some of the shops just have weird hours. Bathrooms are gross though. I visited two different bathrooms and they were both dirty and missing paper towels.
google avatar

Yelp
What a stunning, historic building. Definitely worth a visit as a local or especially as a visitor. There are an abundance of shops, some accessible from within and some only from the outside. Jewelry, gifts, hats, chocolate, books, etc., most of which are goods from local vendors. If you enjoy architecture, make sure to look up, as the skylights and details of the archways and carved stonework are amazing! There is a row of restaurants on the outside with quaint patios and a row of built-in metal stands outside for local merchants to sell their handmade goods. Loved these stands for a farmer's market feel in the midst of this hip, bohemian downtown area. The Battery Park Bookstore was closed the day we went (bummer), so make sure to look at the hours for this hot spot ahead of time to enjoy a glass of champagne and get your read-on!

Yelp
While I thought the architecture was super pretty, I was highly disappointed with the retail offerings. The website made it seem as though there was a lot of food and stores, but it didn't say that a lot of the food is outside the building and many stores were closed on a Sunday. Was nice to walk around, but not much to do.
google avatar

Sarena T.

Yelp
If you're in the area, I would definitely recommend stopping by! It's super pretty inside and great for taking pictures, and there are some nice shops including ones for souvenirs, jewelry, and even yarn-lovers. There's a beignet shop too. There are some tables as well if you just want to hang out. We parked at a garage just south of it on a Sunday, and we paid $4 for 2 hours, which isn't bad. There was plenty of parking spots left. Pretty sure streetside parking is free but may be difficult to find.
google avatar

Yelp
This place absolutely a wonderful experience. The vendors were local, small businesses. They had unique good and services and of course a vested interest in catering to the customer. The bathrooms were clean, in fact the whole mall was clean. There's also a luxury apartment in the middle. I visited it twice during my stay in Asheville and will again when I comeback to Asheville.
google avatar

Rhonda Y.

Yelp
There is so much to do at the arcade! From shops to restaurants, to taking a stroll around the block which is surrounded my more little shops, there is so much to do.
google avatar

Josh N.

Yelp
Very cool shopping center here and most importantly really appreciate the public restrooms and how clean they are. Located in a very popular area with lots of food, drink and shopping options. Nice to have the indoor space on bad weather days as well.
google avatar

Linda G.

Yelp
Excellent downtown spot, America's first indoor mall! Many unique shops and the architecture is gorgeous. A great place to spend a rainy day.
google avatar

Adriana B.

Yelp
A beautiful building and terrific location. There are some nice places to eat on the outside. The inside however seems like a waste of space. There are maybe 2 stores that are worthwhile. Worth a visit though to see the architecture. .
google avatar

Ron R.

Yelp
For me, the architecture is the main attraction at the Grove Arcade. Interesting architectural details and a number of nice shops to browse. Definitely worth your time if you are in Asheville.

Yelp
I had seen signs for the Grove Arcade the first time I had traveled to Asheville last year but never made my way around to visiting. This time, my lady and I were walking through downtown Asheville and saw signs for the building and decided to check out. Walking through the doors into the front halls gives you the realization that this building has been around for a while (since 1929, I believe). The architectural design is really cool, with the original look giving an incredible ambiance showcasing the history as you peruse the shops now occupying the spaces. When you walk through the Western entrance and turn to the left after pass the row of empty booths where you could make a phone call back in the day, it's almost as if you're experiencing a time capsule in a way. It's great that buildings such as these are maintained and not taken down to make way for newer structures. The shops that occupy the retail spaces of the Arcade offer crafted furniture, art, and knickknacks, as well as clothing apparel, books, and jewelry. They also have some restaurants and food vendors that offer various types of Southern cuisine, charcuterie, and other styles. Grove Arcade is a beautiful place to take a break from the breweries and other activities that surround Asheville.

Yelp
The architecture alone is reason enough to go. Hubby and I came on a Saturday late afternoon. The building is spectacular! This building's restoration was purposed to bring about patrons to immerse themselves into Asheville lifestyle and culture through shopping and dining. Even though most of the businesses were closed, it gave us the opportunity to see the bones of this building. On the outskirts of it, you'll find the Maker's Market where vendors are selling their homemade items ranging from soaps, jellies, jewelry and other cool textiles. Beautiful beautiful sight to see!
google avatar

Mike O.

Yelp
I thought this was a great little shopping location in downtown Ashville. The building itself sets it as unique and it is lovely, especially the area that opens up to the skylight view. We visited a few shops there and picked up some local items. I would recommend a visit for sure.
google avatar

Steven L.

Yelp
I do not include shopping on my agenda when traveling or on vacation, but I went through here. My hotel room overlooked the building, I was impressed by the architecture and read a bit about the history. That is why I chose to at least investigate it. I was not disappointed. According to the literature, this was the first indoor shopping mall in the country. It served many purposes over the years and the old girl is still in her prime. There are so many architectural details that just amazed me. The spiral stair cases that wound in and out of the walls were interesting. Ornamental metal and gargoyles really intrigued me. Even the elevator lobby was nicely appointed. Naturally lit from a glass roof brightened the place. At one point, I just sat there admiring the details. The stores, however seemed like they were very upscale and probably not in my budget.

Yelp
If you're looking for the arcade, as in pinball machines, that's across the street. This kind of arcade is like an old-time shopping mall. This place is ornate! It's a really cool old building, with a central corridor taking you through many shops. The design is very retro, bring built around 1929 and restored recently. The building is built on a hill, so the elevation slowly changes throughout the center. You can check out the architectural drawings for the place in the center of the atrium, near what used to be telephone booths. All of the shops here are on the higher end. None of the things are essentials, but fun things for tourists, or people seeking to decorate their homes, or giving Asheville themed gifts. I was pretty impressed with how there weren't very many vacancies, and everything was in good working order. Be sure to check out the griffins out front, guarding the arcade.

Yelp
The Grove Arcade is one of Asheville's historic buildings. It was envisioned to be much larger but Grove died before the building was completed. It still carries out what he had hoped for the community with the shops and services. Now The Grove Arcade has shops and services on the first floor with housing and offices upstairs. It is worth a visit to the Grove Arcade just to see the architecture but there are some great shops to browse through as well. If you are looking for some "me time" and "self care", there is Wake Foot Sanctuary. A market offers fresh produce.
google avatar

Shelby Z.

Yelp
This is a really cute, old-school mall! We came here on a Sunday, so unluckily for us most of the shops were closed - some due to covid and others did not operate on Sundays. The stores that were open though were nice to browse through, and were very unique! While this area is pretty small and won't require much of your time to go through, it is still worth checking out if you are downtown!

Yelp
Bottom Line: Beautiful, historic architecture with an eclectic mix of average shops. The Grove Arcade is a really neat historic building in downtown Asheville that features local shops. I love how bright it is inside thanks to the glass ceilings and I think the spiral staircases between floors were neat. This building has been beautifully restored and I appreciate that. The ground floor of the arcade is a variety of restaurants and eclectic shops like art galleries, antique stores and speciality shops. The second floor is offices and the third floor is apartments. It sure would be neat to live here! We had lunch at Carmel's, bought socks at Razberry Threads and mostly admired the architecture. We were lucky to score a parking spot right out front and the meter fees were reasonable.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a pretty cool place to visit in downtown Asheville. It's classic architecture and it serves a great purpose. Lots of businesses to explore and there is information inside to Enlighten you more on the history. Give it a shot!
google avatar

Nicole S.

Yelp
The Grove Arcade itself is beautiful. It has stunning architecture and is considered Asheville's first mall. However, aside from the beauty of it, it just was not for me. There are a lot of local shops but very specific and if you are just shopping around and visiting, I did not see anything special and the seating is nice but aside from one of the business that is on the outside, there really is no reason for me to return to the Grove and walk inside it. Neat location but just not for me.

Yelp
Cool vibes , and casual energy , the unearthed vibes from compressed energy in a very physical form is clean way to disperse pinned up energy. We are a generation of consumers and the next great thing, we fail in just living in the now. While we are always searching and never enjoying .. this is not a gateway but a catalyst ... so springboard yourself into living.
google avatar

Yelp
I can't believe that I've not been to this mall before. It was a fun time to check out all of the shops. There is also dining options to check out. It's really a beautiful spot but it's small.
google avatar

Yelp
It is a cute mall in the historic building. The main thing of this mall is having a beautiful architecture feature with wonderful detail. Arch door way, spiral staircase, iron handrails, revolving door, bridge hallway, deco ceiling, and more. This building was originally plans for 14 story tower with 5 story for shop. But the builder died and only the base was build. It open the door 1929. My mom and dad was not born yet at that time. The building originally has a lot shops and offices but during the World War II, they evicted all shops and offices. Until 1980, it return to original use with office and shop. Blame on government for discontinuing the shop that cannot return to it former glory. The shop here are mostly specialty gift shop. It is unique in a way. It has a pet store, home goods, decorations store, furniture and restaurant. I like the skylight on top allows the natural light to get into the building.
google avatar

Sandra H.

Yelp
In a historic build lies a wonderful retail venue. AND a gingerbread house display is now on through January 2020. There are so many interesting and unique stores. And it's decorated for the holidays !
google avatar

Jon L.

Yelp
A truly unique feature of central Asheville. It's been said there is not a single piece of level ground in the city of Asheville. This is most evident when you enter from the Battery Park end. You'll be walking down hill inside until you exit on Battle Square end. At the upper end it's two levels and on the lower end it's three. If you find yourself there on a sunny day, enjoy the beautiful atrium above and the cozy and warm sunshine coming through. My favorite shop is the Enter The Earth mineral & fossil store where they have an extensive section of treasures from mother earth.
google avatar

Matthew H.

Yelp
The Grove Arcade is neat. These types of arcades are somewhat of an anachronism in today's world. I really like exploring them.
google avatar

Franklin F.

Yelp
This place is decorated very nice for Christmas. It is not as big as it seems from its website or advertising online. It is worth a visit .
google avatar

Olwen C.

Yelp
Love the atmosphere at this arcade shopping area. Beautiful old building, with lots of unique shops. I picked up a coffee at the New Orleans theme coffee shop and strolled around the stores. Definitely check it out.
google avatar

Emily A.

Yelp
Love it here!! I come to the book store every time I come to Asheville. They had a great champagne flight that includes a champagne that was served on the Titanic. Super fun and quirky.
google avatar

Henderson W.

Yelp
Today, the ground level is filled with downtown Asheville's shops, restaurants and lifestyle services like Asheville Barber & Beard, Realty World, Printville, The Eye Center, Carmel's Kitchen & Bar, Burgerworx, Sante Wine Bar & Tap Room and Nutz About Fudge. There is Makers Marker which is open daily from 10am - 7pm an outdoor bazaar with a dozen stalls filled by artisans selling their craft directly to the public. Grove Arcade was reopened in 2002 after extensive renovations. It was closed to the public during World War II in 1942 but in the 1970s public supping grew for the location to be returned to it's original use. Grove Arcade is located at 1 Page Avenue, Asheville NC 28801 Hours: Monday - Saturday 8am - 8pm Sunday 12pm - 5pm

Yelp
This is a nice combination of architecture, shopping and restaurants. We always try to stop in when we're in Asheville, even though on our latest trip we didn't necessarily buy anything. There are lots of nice art deco touches and some interesting shops. Our favorite features Arts & Crafts style home furnishings, even though we didn't need anything at the moment. You can access many of the restaurants outside, and the do have public bathrooms you can use (always nice after a long day of walking around downtown).
google avatar

Ashley S.

Yelp
This is cute spot to walk around, visit the unique shops, grab a coffee, or a nice lunch! The inside is beautiful. Note: It's not very big, not that it is a bad thing. But it won't take up a ton of your time if you're in the area and decide to stop by.
google avatar

Bruce K.

Yelp
Stunning historical building in central downtown Asheville with all sorts of interesting and unique boutique shops - high-end chocolate, pet toys, jewelry, art, restaurants. All very neat but nothing that I really wanted. Without a doubt, worth a stop and a wander. Signs detail the history of the building, which was opened in 1929 and then taken over by the Federal government as part of the effort to win World War 2. It was reopened to the public in 2002.
google avatar

Kenny R.

Yelp
Lots of REALLY cool shops. Somewhat strange hours, but the weirdest thing is they close their bathrooms before the shops actually close. I was shopping in Enter the Earth and had to use the bathroom quickly. So, I made my purchase and went to go find the bathrooms. Strangely, shops don't close until 8pm, but they lock the bathrooms at 6pm. Others were confused as well. I had to go find a bathroom then and never made it back in to go to the body, bath and essential oil shop. Weird situation. All I can gather is that they don't want homeless in there??? I'm not really sure how that does the job if someone has to come in and lock up later on anyhow.
google avatar

Brad H.

Yelp
Wonderful architecture, small locally owned shops inside and a clean and safe environment. Highly encourage a walk up the stairs to see the view from the 2 level. It is amazing the quality and attention to detail that went into older construction and that this has been preserved so well. It is worth a trip to see at least once even if you are not a shopper.
google avatar

Stephanie Z.

Yelp
It was so nice to escape the heat with my dog and stroll through this historic building. It offered a short cut to my car from the opposite side. Nice to browse the shops through the windows. My favorite was the book store. Dogs are welcome! Just not on the couches.

Kelsey G.

Yelp
Went today and it looked really cool but nothing was open? Maybe two or three random shops were open. Other stores had signs that said they opened at 10, but were not open around 10:30 when we went. Very strange.
google avatar

Morgan M.

Yelp
So cute and beautiful! All of the stores had a wide variety of great local I teams. I enjoyed the Christmas lights and trees they had decorating the hallways but even without those the French Quarter theme is worth the trip there! So much to do.
google avatar

Jessica H.

Yelp
This is a sweet little shopping venue with public restrooms. The shops are a little on the higher end side, wonderful to browse through if you want to get inside while in downtown Asheville. Some of my favorites include Wake Foot Sanctuary, Serenity + Scott, and Enter the Earth (crystal shop). The ceilings are high, the floor tiling is nice, and people walk through with their dogs! My kind of place.
google avatar

Dustin B.

Yelp
Why does your website say that you are open until 8 on weekdays if literally every store (even the bathrooms) close at 6?
google avatar

Dan H.

Yelp
A unique historic building in the heart of downtown Asheville. The Grove Arcade is a beautiful building. It could even be described as haunting (also might be haunted?). The Grove Arcade has zero arcade games in it, but there's a pinball museum next door that it a must to check out if you like old arcade games or pinball. This place is kind of a mismatch of stores and eateries. That's not a bad thing, but there's really no theme to this building. The two places I love going to the most here are the Wake Foot Sanctuary and Serenity + Scott Wake Foot Sanctuary is a foot focused spa that also caters to a lot of other relaxation needs. This place is a must if you want to pamper yourself a bit. Soak your feet in some made to order hot water in a darkroom with some relaxing music (and forget the dumpster fire that's the world exists at all). If you like Men's skin and facial care boutiques then you must check out Serenity + Scott. As someone that likes facial products and beard products for men this place is wonderful. The staff and owners and incredibly polite and always eager to help you find a product that suits your needs. I've found wonderful beard washes here year after year. The rest of the Grove Arcade features a gem store that my wife really likes along with various restaurants, a candy store and other boutiques. It's a building with incredible architecture and the kind of place most people's parents will enjoy walking around for an hour or two.
