There is a large selection of loose leaf tea to purchase by the ounce or to have steeped onsite. The owners and employees are very kind, helpful, and conversational. Their teas can also be purchased on their website for shipping or store pickup. I was informed that they frequently send loose leaf tea to customers in California, which I found impressive for a small business, but I am also not surprised given the quality and quantity of their teas.

Fantastic selection of well priced and extremely tasty teas/tisanes! Incredibly helpful, knowledge, and kind staff to help you make your selection. They also sell herbs and spices as well.

Love this place. The milk oolong is delicious. Great to buy loose teas or an iced or hot cup to go. They also have spices!

I wish I could give this place even more stars. I've been buying tea/tisane here for several years now and each time I go I have such a wonderful conversation with whoever is working. Their teas are lovely and priced so reasonably. You can get a small amount of anything which is a great way to trying something new. If you like herbals, you MUST try their Citrus Rose <3

Overpriced and they didn't have the specially tea I was looking for. Also they have anti trump and liberal propaganda signs everywhere.. I came to grab tea not be indoctrinated. I would just order your tea products online and avoid this store.

I love this tea shop! It's a bit out of the way for me to come here from the North Hills, but it's always worth the trip. There are so many spice blend options to choose from and the staff is always very helpful in explaining anything about the teas. The teas are reasonably priced and they have a good variety of options from white, black, rooibos, green, oolong, matcha, etc. You can choose any blend they have and how much you want. I got a few 2 oz bags. Each bag has a specific label for that tea, telling you what is the best temperature to steep the tea at and for how long. I love this! On this trip, I got a snickerdoodle rooibos (it smells so good!), cherry rose sencha, and a ginger Peach black tea. If you don't like to make your own tea, they also sell it by the cup too!

Every single tea we bought was either tasteless or tasted old/dusty when we got home. They might have issues with quality control when no one buys certain teas for years. The prices were reasonable, the selection was great, the shop looks neat and clean, and for $3, you can get a hot cup of any tea they have. (Not sure if milk/nondairy milk/sugar, etc are available) They have all kinds of spices available too, including hard-to-find ones, like Eyebright. It would've been nice to be able to smell all the teas oneself. Some teas I did smell smelled pretty old. Hygiene and steeping knowledge/ability were concerns with ordering hot tea: the staff way over-handled the tea 'bag', wringing it into a knot for a couple of minutes while chatting, and then dropping the whole thing in the cup of hot water. Then when even after a few minutes the water was still clear, and I mentioned it, the gentleman said that it was supposed to be like that because it was a weak tea. (Not the case.) There wasn't much for teapots or teacups or other paraphernalia - guess they sold out of everything over Christmas. There wasn't anywhere to sit, inside or out.

Fantastic tea shop! Terrific variety, and the owner is incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and patient. I've been trying to cut down on caffeine, and she mentioned a rooibos tea; when I said that I really didn't care for the taste of rooibos, she asked me if I knew about green rooibos - and I hadn't. It tastes completely different from red rooibos, and it's the basis of two tea blends that I bought to try - Citrus Rose (lovely, and well balanced) and Lemon Tisane (which is so delicious that I suspect I'll be drinking it daily from now on). As another reviewer mentioned, you can buy any quantity of tea, and each bag is marked with the water temperature and the steeping time that tea requires. (Please realize that this is primarily a shop that sells tea and herbs; it's not a sit down place.)

Everyone is so nice that and the line so long that I thought that I was just ordering the wrong thing. Every single drink I've gotten has been worse than the last. Today was the last straw! I couldn't even force myself to drink it. Just beyond disappointing... On a hot day wanting a cold bevi and getting purple vinegar was terrible. I really tried to like what was being sold (pea kombucha) - but it only got more disgusting with each sip. Moments after I gave up, I watched a couple throw their full cups of the same purple icy drink. The mohito was too bitter and too sweet, ewe. Every flavor combination I've tried has been horrible. Literally everything I have tried from the watery flavorless ice coffee to the miserable shrub is unpalatable. This was my last try - I just can't believe how gross this last one was.

Just moved to Pittsburgh I visited Gryphons back when it was in Lawrenceville had an amazing iced minty tea and took home some fresh teas when past a few week later and it was gone BUT I did not know so I shed a tear and moved on BUT then to my great delight just yesterday 3/19 I asked yelp for tea on the way to work and up comes Gryphons and it is only .5 miles away WHOOO HOOOO I head over I am warmly greeted by the gal that owns the shop she hears my tale of tea woe now wouldn't you know it this is a bigger lovely shop with seating and of course all their beautiful teas they also have assorted tea paraphernalia so you can make the perfect cup at home I left with assorted teas and a new little tea ball called a tadpole (put the tea in) so it can easily steep tea really is so much better then coffee for your head go in ask questions you will love this place

I really thought I'd reviewed them while they were still in Lawrenceville. Oh well. They've been in Bloomfield for several months now and I couldn't be happier. It's a quick walk from my house (not that Lawrenceville was long) and it gives me easier access to get here after work and on the weekends. It also gives me easier access to the best teas around. I simply love all of the choices. Fleur de Mint is my absolute #1 favorite!!! The custom blends are just out of this world delish and make for the best cuppas ever.

This was my second trip to Gryphon's Tea. I pre ordered the packaged tea I wanted ahead of time online. The website is super easy to use and I was able to pay via paypal. When I was in Bloomfield later in the day, I dropped by to pick it up. Only 1 customer is allowed in the store at a time during COVID. Everything was ready to go and I was in and out quick. They also offer a shipping option if you aren't in the area. Parking can be annoying on Liberty but I was able to get a spot right in front when I went. When I left there were several people in line waiting to get in. Glad to see they are doing so well. I really love their tea with my current favorite being the Formosa Oolong. I will be back.

I got a hot matcha latte and love how it's not watered down! My 16oz latte was $4. While I waited, the staff was very friendly and told me about their shop and teas. I would hands down come here over the nearby coffee places. It's a very cozy place, and it feels very much like visiting a friend's home.

I had the pleasure or attending a virtual event and learned about tea (how it's picked, how to brew it, how to store it). The tea tastes amazing, the shop has an amazing collection of flavors and types, and the staff are so knowledgeable. You can call ahead for your order and pick it up at the shop.

Wow! I came in here to pick up something for a Yelp Elite promo however, I stayed for the amazing service, cozy environment and delicious tea. When I walked in, I was greeted with a cheerful Corrin. She was very accommodating and patient with me as she helped me. Later on in my visit, I got to meet Diana the store owner. Both of them were very kind and knowledgeable of their products. The business is very warm inside, it reminds me of a cozy cottage. It definitely does not feel like a business but rather a friend's home inside. I would've never walked in here on my own, but now I think I will more often. I don't know much about tea however, I do know I like it more than coffee. This is the spot to enjoy and learn about the wide variety of teas they have. There are shelves adorned with a wide variety of teas from all over! Additionally, both the people I've encountered at Gryphon's were very kind and easy to talk to. This is the type of business I want to go back and support because the people were very pleasant and went above and beyond to help me enjoy my visit.

The tea we tried the lavender mint macha with almond milk and it was quite delicious! The lady was also very kind and informative. A short walking distance from the West Penn hospital. Very nice place with good selections. We will be back.

I am an addict to their tea. I start to panic when I realize I'm running low on my two favorites, the Vanilla Black and Earl Grey. Since the shop is on the opposite end of town from where I live, I stock up with a good amount. Seriously, when I asked for 10oz of each, the person working didn't believe me at first! So why do I like the tea so much? It's super flavorful and is strong enough that those flavors come through balanced, but aren't overwhelming. It's probably the best early grey I've ever had, seriously! Everyone who works here is so nice too! They're happy to talk tea with you, which I love. They have over 100 different blends on hand, so there's something for everyone in terms of black, herbal, green and more. They even have a matcha blend, for those who are on that kick (not a fan, but I know a lot of people are). They also have a small amount of retail you can buy. Great gift options for tea lovers! My tip would be if you have your heart set on a certain tea, call ahead. Sometimes they run out... Especially if you have a fave and order a good amount. They also can brew up tea if you want something on the go! If you're a tea lover, you have to go here stat!

This is a great shop for your tea needs. The owner is so friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. There's something about walking into a tea shop that instantly makes me feel happy and at ease, and gryphon's is no different there. You can place your orders online and pickup at the store, which is so convenient. There's so many options available with all the different types of tea, and I look forward to tasting my way through them all in the future. Highly recommend for anyone who already loves tea or for anyone just starting their tea journey.

If you're looking for small ways to support local, I'd recommend Gryphon's tea big time. While the store is small, they restrict how many people can come in to pick up tea or other products. The ladies working when I went really knew EVERYTHING there is to know about tea and were just some of the sweetest humans.

My favorite place to go in pgh when i'm looking for medicinal herbs. although not listed on their menu or site they have things like echinacea, coltsfoot, damiana, etc etc. Staff is very friendly. I asked someone their favorite tea selection (over a nice conversation) and they recommended sticky rice pu-erh. Even gave me a little free sample! definitely recommend!

This was my first stop of the day on my Lawrenceville cookie tour. The store is small but the clerk I met Corrin was very helpful and friendly. You can get a cup of tea for only $2.00-along with their cookie sample almond oat cookie. She asked me what I wanted since there was a big variety to choose from. I asked for one with a fruity flavor and ended up with a red berry tea. She explained to me the importance of proper "steep" time depending upon the type you choose. Most of the tea sold here is loose but you can purchase 100 tea empty envelopes for $4.00. Tea is sold by the ounce and depending upon how many cups you drink you can get a lot from a little. She suggested that if I wished to purchase then I should start at 4 oz. Again prices are very reasonable here. There is a small sitting area where you can relax and enjoy your tea. Behind that area are teapots and even one shaped like one a carry bottle with the infuser built in! All you need to add is the hot water. I thought my tea was okay and didn't need any sugar or other additives. When I was getting ready to leave she turned what I had left into a to go cup and let my berry tea bag sit in it. The flavor of this particular tea doesn't get overdone so it was just right for me to continue on my tour. A very quaint shop with very reasonable prices and very helpful and knowledgeable service!

This should be your go-to spot for tea, whether you're a tea connoisseur or a newbie to loose leaf! This was my first visit since they moved to Bloomfield, but the shop was still just as I remembered it - lined with jars of loose leaf teas of all varieties, filled with tools for making tea, and warm and welcoming. While I'm not the biggest tea drinkers, one of my family members is. I grew up drinking whatever teas my family and friends gifted us from China, but never asked questions about the differences. Gryphon's Tea has been the perfect spot to find teas for Christmas gifts for this family member. I gave Corrin, one of the wonderful women on staff, a list of her preferences. Corrin thought for a moment, searched the shelves for selections, consulted with the owner Diana and gave me several recommendations at a variety of price points. She was extremely patient as I pondered my choices and did not pressure me to choose more expensive teas. She gave great information on how to choose how much to buy (sold by weight, but some teas weigh more or can last multiple steeps). The packaging includes the appropriate temperature and time for preparing, as I recently learned different teas have different specific instructions! She even hand wrote a label for me because they had run out of labels for one of the teas I purchased. They're able to make tea on-the-go as well as to create custom blends for your drinking or gifting needs. The shop is small, so the number of people allowed inside is limited and they are very careful with COVID-19 social distancing precautions. I highly recommend stopping in this shop.

Though I am in Lawrenceville often and have walked Butler many times, I have never noticed this place before. Happened to stop here on the way to and from an Elite Event. My what a selection they have! I am definitely no expert when it comes to teas, but I know a good tea when i taste it. Not only are the teas good, but they are very reasonable in their prices as well. While there, I picked up one of those tea bud thingies that turn into a flower when dropped in some hot water, some just regular black tea, and some tea envelopes. While there I tasted the hot green tea (absolutely awesome). I can't wait to go back!

I probably take stopping into the shop often for granted. This little tea and spice shop is the best. Many people don't realize that not only is there a fantastic selection of teas but also SPICES! It's one of many, the possibly the best kept secret in Lawrenceville that more people who aren't living in the neighborhood should know about. Being able to buy the exact about of fresh spice needed for culinary and baking needs is the best bang for your buck. The prices are incredibly reasonable to begin with but then spices and teas are sold by weight! So one can say a lot of money by buy what's needed and have the freshest spices. I love it! I also love the tea selections and blends. I always love getting a cup of tea and learning if there is a special blend for the season. This last weekend the shop was making a beer tea. I don't know how they did it but it involved an old keg and tea leaves and I don't think I am explaining it correctly but go ask them- The shop is great at explaining things. For example how different leaves pick up flavors, emit flavors, and more. I could never explain what knowledge they could bestowe upon you so stop in yourself. You won't be sorry.

Extremely helpful employees! So friendly, and really care to help you find the perfect tea. The prices are so reasonable, and the selection is endless. They have a nice little seating area if you want a pot there, which is great for relaxing and people-watching.

This is a small cute tea room that I never noticed before driving through Lawrenceville. I stopped in here one evening with friends and ordered the Lavender Matcha which was really good. their prices are very affordable as well. I will be back. Only thing I wish they had was some seating to be able to sit and have a cup of tea and do some work

Me and my posse equipt with two bonified mothers showed up here on Mother's Day. We rolled in, 5 deep and since the place only seats 4 or so, we let the 14 month old loose to examine the valuables at her eye level. It's true like the other reviewers say, they indeed know their shit but since I don't know shit, I would be rather easy to fool but the two mothers I was rolling with, know shit and they seemed to agree and be willing to believe in the tea ladies shit. The tea was good and since I'm more of a coffee fella, I think that speaks volumes. Our 6 year old went decaf and loved his berry tea and our 3 year old got hers cold and downed that shit. My only beef with this place was that I was expecting little tea cups made of porcelain and a little tea pot that would sit in the center of a table of many that seated all of us, including the wandering 14 month old. To be frank, I was also crossing my fingers that there would be British folk around that would tell me the things the tea lady did but in British. Oh well, they all can't be winners. Oh, they are really super nice and inexpensive and they even hooked up the mommies with free tea to represent Mother's Day. How dope is that?

This is my favourite place to purchase loose leaf tea in Pittsburgh. Conveniently located along Butler St in Lawrenceville, Gryphon tea is a truly local business. The only person I have ever seen working the counter is also the owner. She is knowledgeable and extremely friendly. Tonight was easily my fourth or fifth visit. I asked for something to "remind me spring is around the corner." I left with Cherry Rose Sencha, Summer on Ice, and (a personal favourite) Fleur de Mint. Many of the mixes and blends are creations of the purveyor of this fine establishment. Do yourself a favour the next time you're in Lawrenceville and stop in!

Don't let the size fool you~ this place has a FABULOUS selection!! JUST GO, REALLY! We were ecstatic to see all the items we like, so many new ones & some pretty exclusive items all here. The staff is very knowledgeable & fun to interact with. Stop in, try something new! TOTALLY worth the visit. We are planning to make this a regular & are happy to shop local. This beats Teavana & Capital Teas by far. WINNER! :)

This is the best tea place in Pittsburgh I've been so far (and I've been to several). Service is a little slow but it's worth the wait.

A great selection of teas with knowledgable and friendly staff. My only complaint is that this store isn't more like a cafe. I would love to take a load off and do some work online while I sip on my tea.

I am so happy that my friend recommended I stop into this place. I am an avid tea drinker, even in the summer, and was thrilled to stop into a shop with such a variety and broad selection. They have everything from my (favorite) low-brow 'breakfast' varieties, including Scottish, Irish, English, and more, to really nicely spiced chais, a dizzying amount of herbal tisanes, greens, whites, etc. I suggested they start hosting classes so that peeps like me can step up our game. I got great recommendations from the staff and they introduced me to new teas I am really getting into!

The staff here are extremely helpful. If you do not know quite what you want, they can ask some questions and help you narrow it down. If you do know what you want, they have a great selection of teas. They also have herbs and some tea things. You can also enjoy a hot or iced tea.

I've been to most of the tea shops in Pittsburgh, as well as some in other cities, states, and countries, but I have to say that Gryphon's Tea is by far my favorite. Their selection is superb, their prices are low, and their quality is consistently excellent. I've tried almost all of their offerings, outside of some of the fruity teas and seasonals, and I've never been disappointed. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The atmosphere is inviting and relaxed. In addition to their selection of teas, they have accessories, tea pots, and a wide variety of culinary spices. They also offer tea by the cup for $2, which is a great way to try before you buy. When I left the Pittsburgh area, I was worried that I wouldn't have the opportunity to drink their teas anymore, but they were willing to ship tea to my new address! Overall, I would recommend Gryphon's Tea to anyone looking for a place to buy tea.
