Visited the NY store last week. Customer service was abysmal. The 2 women in staff gossiped with each other and ignored me and the other shopper the entire time I was selecting and trying on clothes. I would have appreciated assistance with locating different sizes and colours in the store but they weren't interested. I bought $400 worth of dresses and leggings nonetheless. Very disappointed to have the leggings begin to unravel the first time I washed them, as per the instructions on the tag.

Comfy, affordable, nicely colored clothing that can be mixed and matched an a kajillion ways. Fast delivery for online orders with some extra surprises on occasion. Wearable and remarkable clothes.

This review is for the customer service -- depending on who you speak to, the employees on the phone can be quite nice, but there are also employees who should never be in a customer-facing position. If you ask them to follow up with details about a particular product or question, you can guarantee that this will not happen.

Gudrun should hire Helga! Corporate couldn’t come back with a better rebuttal to Heidi’s disappointment with the sheerness of some of the fabrics, especially in the winter collections. But I too, stand with Heidi. Layering should not be a requirement to make a garment usable. For me, Gudrun’s line is not inexpensive, and to put together an outfit suitable for central New York winters isn’t practical on any level. A “fabric density” rating would be most helpful. I made that mistake once - that dress had the thinnest fabric and totally sheer, even in black. Even a turtleneck beneath wouldn’t help. I do have 2 heavier woven linen dresses that are nice, but as much as I wash them, they still haven’t reached that nice stage where you can wear ‘em without ironing, which is difficult with my disability. I’d love to see more of the cotton fabric in the picture - it feels great on, washed and dries wonderfully - I iron the hem on a clean lightbulb 💡if needed. I don’t get in a twist regarding whether the Indian cotton is organic anymore. Modi himself threw a spanner in that program, so I assume it’s not.

I just recieved m first order and was beyond delighted. The smock/blouse/jacket will be such a versatile piece that I hope to wear it till it just falls apart! Quality and workmanship are top notch. I will order more!!!

This review is about the store/customer service not the brand. Visited late afternoon on a Friday with friend - 3 sales assistants behind counter - one older, two younger. No greeting, no eye contact when we entered. During our 30 minute stay in store we did not receive any type of acknowledgement or offer of assistance. In fact, while in dressing room I asked my friend to find a different color of an item. She asked the older sales woman about the items and instead of physically helping with the sales woman just pointed to the area of the store where another color was located! My friend even then couldn’t find the pieces and asked yet again for assistance. Luckily, one of the younger associates stepped in to help. I would go back to store hoping to have a better customer service experience.

Long time customer, having made many online purchases over the years. I love their clothes. However, UPS lost my most recent package. I expected a prompt replacement response from Gudrun Sjoden, but have not been satisfied with customer service's attitude of "oh, maybe it'll turn up in a few days." An insistent email from me finally elicited a replacement from customer service. But they're shipping by UPS again and refuse to use any other shipper, even though I offered to pay for FedEx or really any option other than UPS. But no, UPS. Again. Because their failure the first time really inspires confidence. Any way, Gudrun Sjoden really doesn't get customer service and I'll be very reluctant to purchase from then online again in future. It would have been so easy for them to make this a good customer service experience.

A lovely store! I have been a Gudrun customer since the 1990s, but this was my first time in the NY store. Tasteful interior. The clothes are unique with lovely patterns and often organic fabric. I love that the designer doesn't care about trends but creates garments that are individual and for a wider range of women than just the 16-25 year old crowd with no curves. There is also a home goods section. Very friendly staff and calming atmosphere.

I would give NEGATIVE STARS if possible. The catalog and photos are beautiful, but nothing like the crumpled dress and sweater that arrived carelessly wrapped with a reused cotton ribbon thrown inside a paper bag. The construction and fabrics looked cheap, and for that I paid $328.03 !!! Shame on you Gudrun Sjoden for taking advantage of me, the consumer. My time and energy have been wasted along with my confidence in shopping for clothing on the internet. I will see how soon I am credited for the UPS return and the deduction of $7.00. I hope it won't be more??

One of my favorite stores to hit up when I come to New York... Also an avid fan of ordering online. Had hoped to come in and try on some of the items I had spotted in the catalog but after almost 10 minutes of looking through racks and not being asked if I needed help with anything, or even having my presence in the store acknowledged, by either of the workers I decided I'd rather take my chance with an online order and left. Not the experience I've had in the past so I was a bit disappointed

i have not been to the store but i've shopped online. i absolutely love the look of this company and the styles are unique and comfortable. 2 comments: 1. i would say the prices are high because 2. even though they are well made; the quality of the cotton is below standard as they did not wash well.

Update: Because there's no option to offer feedback on the GS website, I will mention a recent online purchase here. I bought the Coffee jersey dress in S. The fit here is good., the pattern and colors pretty. However the fabric isn't jersey. It's stiffer material than a similar dress I ordered last year, and doesn't drape softly like jersey. Too bad because GS produced quality clothes two years ago. An update on my recent experience: Today I received notification that my money had been refunded for the huge overalls -- MINUS $8 for shipping. I sent an email, requesting removal of my name from their mailing list and I also have unsubscribed from future emails. I'm done with Gudrun Sjoden and I hope everyone will be aware of this experience I've had. One more thing: Gudrun crows about her "green soul" but every item is in a plastic bag within a plastic bag mailer. How "green" is that? sheesh.

I finally made it here and so pleased that I did. A lot of the clothing here is fun, some of it is whimsical and it's all super comfortable with many pieces feeling really well made. I spent over two hours here and sales woman Betty was so incredibly kind and helpful. She took care to listen to my shopping needs of the moment and made me feel like a very valued customer. I walked out with a pair of pants, a skirt, two tops and some tights. I'll be back for sure!

I ordered $463 worth of clothes from Gudrun Sjödén America back in March. I returned all items and have only received $47 back in refunds. I have 12 email exchanges with customer service- a complete run around of nonsense. I spoke with customer service over the phone a few days ago. The conversation was a Nightmare- the woman was condescending and disinterested. After being on hold I was told there was some type of glitch from finance... what?! This is a ridiculous way to conduct business! Bottom line- when will I receive my refund - I need and want my money back!

The shoes were huge and the small smock was so narrow around the shoulders that it would compress my chest. But to charge $7 for your mistake? Seriously. Take me off your lists.

Love the colors and the fabrics are also good. I get a lot of compliments. However, when I returned some items by dropping them off at UPS, I never got a refund. My UPS tracking number said the items arrived at the destination 2 days after I dropped them off. So today I called GSjoden customer service. I was told they were "lost" but because of my call, I would get a refund in 5 days. I wonder if all return items get "lost" unless someone makes a call.

The company somehow changed my account name to my sons name when he bought me a gift certificate. In the store, they revived an old account, and told me customer service would sort it out if I called them. On the phone with customer service, they blamed my son for messing up my account ( he couldn't have logged in, he doesn't have my password) and refused to honor the points for my purchases made in store. The agent was rude and disrespectful. She kept interrupting me. Before this I was a faithful Gudrunista, but now I see what people are talking about with the terrible customer service. Coupled with the steady decline in quality, I'm on the lookout for a new brand to purchase.

Fun clothing! I have quite a few things now from GS--I like them all. Interesting colors and easy to wear. Actually love the dresses...But, I have no idea if ANY of the things I sent back have been credited to my account--as you can't access an account online. I assumed they were being credited until I read a review so I now need to go and check all of my credit card statements.... so inexcusable that this has been a problem for at LEAST a year. This is what I have been getting on the website....when I look for information about my orders: "Hold on - we're renovating my pages Hello! ​Colorful renovations to the functions of My pages are currently underway. We are improving and renewing the functionality and design. This will make it easier and even more fun for you to be our customer." Recently this was added --"My pages" are due to be launched in May 2019." I will be back to review again if this deadline is not met--it is mid-May--I am not hopeful.

second review under my personal address. I found my tribe at Gudrun. the service is amazing, the clothes fit so well, and they are perfect for a size 12 50 something 5 foot 4 person.

I love the quirky designs and prints of Gudrun's clothes. Although pricey, I have splurged quite a bit in the last few years. In the last year the quality of the clothing has declined dramatically. I always wash the clothes on delicate and don't machine dry. Despite this treatment the stitching in non stress areas has unraveled on at least two items purchased in 2019. I recently contacted customer service in an effort to receive credit for my 2019 purchases as described in "club membership benefits", they were rude and refused to help me. The clothing designs are not complicated and manufacture is not pricey (made mostly in India and Bulgaria. Certainly another designer will soon fill the void left by this retailer

I have started calling myself Gudruns biggest fan in Oregon. I love her designs! I admit, I've been surprised to read so many negative reviews. I'm concerned now and will certainly watch for quality issues. I've dealt with customer service several times and have had acceptable experiences. They just had a sale in which I bought enough stuff to earn a hefty voucher, there was a lot of trouble getting my voucher but a customer service agent called me to make sure I got it and knew how to use it.

Awful customer service. On the web page, to apply coupon...website doesn't validate..archaic design. Enter in a text box. Web page indicates the discount will be applied on the paper invoice with the shipment. Noticed my credit card was charged the full amount. Customer service chastised me for using a coupon that wasn't from their website. Was very difficult. When I asked a supervisor to respond..least they could do was give me a small discount. I received a canned email lecturing me that I was supposed to only use their coupons. Escalated again with another canned response... never apologizing for my time being wasted. Finally gave up. Not customer focused.

Addendum, Though all were helpful in trying to resolve my double charge problem, I finally did speak to someone who understood the GS system well enough to just reverse the charge. She was extremely apologetic about the trouble I'd had and gave me a small credit bonus as recompense. Her courtesy and helpfulness was a soothing balm to my previous frustration with the store's Sweden-based financial operation. Thanks GS. Love ya!!!

Just got my first on-line order from them. It came beautifully wrapped with a bow around it, and a bright plastic bag. I've bought several things down at their store, but this just made it that much easier.

So I think Gudrun Sjoen they either moved this store to SOHO (from BK), or opened a second location (I believe it's the former). They are now at 50 GREENE STREET between Broome and Grand St. I was walking around Soho and recognized the name from the subway ads and decided to take a peak in. The clothes are great! They fit a variety of ages and body types and are in great prints, mostly natural fibers. The two swedish women who worked at the shop were super nice and helped me with sizes. Unfortunately for me, almost all the smaller sizes were sold out in store and onllne. They told me it was the end of the spring season and the summer clothes would be in the shop soon. The cost for most items ranged between 95-150. It's sort of funny - they sell tank tops for around $85 and some dresses/tunics for around $90. I wouldn't buy a tank at this price, but I would definitely buy a dress. I deducted one star because almost everything I saw there seemed to be made in China and for the price point of these items I would expect manufacturing from a country that didn't have so many ethical issues surrounding production.

Clothes may be nice but worst customer service online EVER!!!!!! I received an item as a gift and am unable to exchange without notifying giver even though I am willing to pay any extra costs. On phone was told they could help me, spent 15 minutes giving information then told no after all. Online received no response at all, sent another, and then got another response (also not helpful) in Swedish! Would never buy from this company.

After ordering from the catalog and returning a few items, as well as keeping some ( good experience no issues at all, credit was prompt ) I finally visited the store in NYC. OMG, great place. The sales assistants were very helpful with styling my choices and not pushy at all. The clothing can be sized up or down, depending on how you want it to fit, as it's cut very well with seaming and attention to details. Style wise you can go as funky or as practical as you want. Love the colors, patterns and designs. Bought 5 items when I only planned on 1. Thank you for a very fun shopping experience as well as some lovely outfits.

I have never before longed to have much more money in order to buy clothes. I longed to buy other things, but never clothes. And then I found Gudrun Sjoden. I have been there twice, and spent over $600 each time, which is often more than I spend in a year on clothes. I just love it there. The clothing is bright, interesting, comfortable, mix-and-matchable, and usually made from natural fibers, including organic cotton. The fact that it's often made in China doesn't bother me so much, as I have trust in the company, and believe they contract with reputable and responsible factories. Not all factories are alike, even in China. Smaller items do seem expensive for what they are, but overall, I find the pricing very reasonable, since the clothing is unique and timeless, and also really built to last. I constantly wear my GS clothing, so it's washed regularly, and it's still good as new over a year later. The sales associates are always friendly and helpful, the atmosphere is relaxed, and as a size 14/16/18, it's refreshing to be able to choose what I truly want to wear, rather than just what happens to fit of what is in a store on a day I need to buy something. One thing to take note of: their sizes really run large, so definitely try things on. Also, the design tends to be kind of loose and boxy, so don't go there for form-fitting items.

Perfect Retail Therapy! I have spent more money in the last 3 month on clothes from Gudrun Sjoden than I have in four years! I really love the fit, the designs...just about everything. I am a big girl, and I appreciate being able to wear these designs. (Last week, I bought a dress that I would never consider, but it is a smaller size than usual, and I think I look really cute in it.!) I love shopping in the store because the sales staff is very attentive, but not pushy. They all seem to really like what they are doing, and where they are doing it. A couple of times, I have had to order merchandise online. It is great anticipating getting a package from Sweden! (I placed an order online Sunday night, and it was waiting for me when I got to work today - Thursday!) Great clothes! Great experience! I am a happy customer! I just love Gudrun Sjoden!

The clothing might be nice, but the online customer service is terrible. I purchased and included a gift card. The site said the gift card would be deducted from the total. That did not happen. Contacted customer service and they would not provide refund. GS Cust service said the only way to fix was to send back the items - do a return - and re-purchase. Well...aside from the inconvenience, the items were sold out. Sadly, GS, you have lost a customer and all the items I purchased during your year end sale will be returned....

Purchased two pair of shoes as a gift for a friend. After 3 weeks of not receiving them I looked at tracking and they still showed the package was overseas. I'm in the US. I had to go out and purchase replacement gift because her birthday was in a couple days. I receive the GS order last night, 25 days later. Too late. I went to return them and found out they were final sale which I didn't notice. They refused to even give me a credit and were flip and condescending. They blamed UPS instead of taking ownership. I complained on one of their many advertisments in the comment section, warning people their order could take almost a month to receive and my comment was deleted. Notice they don't allow reviews on their website. Easy to stay in business when you just delete and silence any complaints. I will never trust this company nor will I support their bloviated self-impressed words with empty actions. Way to run a business GS. You must be rolling in dough like a pirate to throw away loyal customers. At least you won't get my dough anymore. Maybe Gudrun Sjödén herself is too busy to notice what's happening to her company. The reviews offsite aren't so hot. Sad!

I'm from the midwest. and discovered Gudrun Sjoden through an ad in the New Yorker. I love so many of the pieces...I'm actually interested in clothing again. The clothes are perfect for my style, age, comfort, and budget...well, okay, a little high but not completely out of reach. And I am actually wearing color. (My friends and family are SHOCKED!) When my first order arrived, i was expecting to be disappointed...instead, I was nearly giddy! Now, when I have extra money, I am heading to the website. I look forward to visiting New York and actually shopping in the store. Right now, I am waiting for two orders to arrive! I cannot stop myself.

Have not visited the Manhattan shop BUT their catolog is lovely. Some of their things not exactly fashionable for the Metropolitan area (only my opinion of course)...looks a bit too much like Heidi wear. However, I did order two linen dresses, tights and leggings (footless tights really) and kept everything. Ordered two sizes in each dress...they take 7.00 off to use their return label, but well worth it - a fortune to drive into the city from NJ just to go to one shop. Love the colors of their tights, comfortable and can't wait for new seasonal colors to be available. Will order again!

Sorry ladies but I had a great experience order Christmas for my wife. I did have to call Germany, Sweden, England and New York to get everything but everyone I talked to was great.

I absolutely have found my tribe at Gudrun Sjoden. The service is amazing. even just browsing is okay; soaking up the atmosphere and understanding the way of Gudrun is so cool and accepting. the store is for all body types and I have never, ever felt so accepted at another store than GS. I am a 12, 5 foot 4, and they take you as you are. love it. love it. love it.

Don't think they'll EVER take you off their mailing list either. It's been years and I still receive catalogues and emails even though I've asked to be removed from their lists.

I LOVE the dress I ordered. Service was very good. And the dress fits well, loose and comfortable. The fabric is so soft and light. The color is summery and cheerful. It will be my favorite dress this summer.

This is my new favorite clothing store. Everything goes together well, the store assistants are friendly, knowledgeable and bring you good options and their clothes are so much more interesting than the usual stuff I see in the stores. Also, did I mention how comfortable their clothes are? I will definitely be back.

Beautiful patterns, vibrant color choices, well made, nice fabric, comfortable, fun, unusual. Really love their inclusive vision of who might enjoy wearing their clothes--all female, but all colors and ages. Inspiring in an ageist culture. Service has always been personal, non intrusive, helpful. And their beautiful cloth bags for purchases are a delightful bonus!

One of the highlights of visiting NYC this past spring was going the the Gudrun Sjoden store on Greene St. The interior is amazingly pleasant and the sales staff welcoming and efficient. I adore this clothing line and it was delightful to see it in its "natural habitat".

Their website is a disaster-- just try to order something when a sale is running, like today, and you are in for a world of hurt. The checkout process takes you to a page that says-- "something went wrong." Then try to get a hold of customer service or message them by email and Facebook...don't hold your breath, just move on and forget about this company.

These are the best clothes for women who care about texture and color! They are beautifully designed and well made for adult women of all ages. I have been ordering these clothes for 5 years on-line and have NEVER been disappointed.....just ordering their catalogue was a thrill!

I have been purchasing this brand since traveling abroad in the 80s. For 15 years or so I would call their flagship shop and have items shipped if I couldn't get to them. Finally they opened in London and NYC. The first several years, I always enjoyed going in, then I began finding some staff very off-putting. I discussed this a couple of years ago with the Manager (Mary/Marie?). She always had the right response. How shocked was I this past year to find out that the surly sales person is now the shop manager? I may stop in occasionally, but most of my shopping will be done online or in Europe. If I go in, I always have either Betty or a sweet Bronx girl assist me.

Love love love this store. They have all sorts of fun colorful dresses, skirts, tops, shoes and other accessories. One of the really neat things about this store is that items are designed to coordinate with one another and many of the items are designed for layering. The sales girls are really friendly and helpful. My only complaint is that some of the tops are disproportionately pricey when compared to the cost of the skirts and dresses. Other than that, great store, especially if you're looking for something different.

After having had trouble with a gift voucher through no fault of Gudruns I received some of the best customer service I have ever gotten. Joanna was great with follow up calls and providing a solution that went above and beyond. Great products and even better staff. Thank you very much!

Customer service is the worst! I ordered an anniversary gift on May 11 and received a preliminary confirmation that said: "You will receive your final order confirmation shortly or within the next working day." That didn't happen. Ten days later (date of anniversary), I check and find that the gift has not been delivered. Somehow the company left the apartment number off the order with UPS. In addition, I was charged an additional $7.96. When I asked about it, I received this explanation: "The charge for $7.76 is most likely an international fee charged by your bank." Most likely? My bank doesn't charge international transaction fees.

I was at first excited to see the clothing online. I ordered several pieces and was very disappointed with the quality for the price. The linen dress was so thin and a rayon dress looked cheaply made. In addition, I was charged a foreign transaction fee on my credit card for the purchase ($13 for me), which was not clearly stated when I checked out. I have a travel credit card for foreign purchases (for work) which I could have used had I known. As others have noted, Customer Service on the phone was not helpful when I complained about the foreign transaction fee or to ask about waiving my $7 return fee. Simply not nice or helpful. She blamed the fee on the Swedish location and she had no power to waive the return fee (which other online companies have done in the past and more). Overall, not a good experience.

I love Gudrun's flattering, comfortable clothing and her sense of social responsibility. The Green Street store, like the other Gudrun stores in Europe, is hospitable to its customers with nice seating, cold water (very welcome on a hot NYC summer day) and incredibly nice and helpful staff. My only wish is that this store was located in a less out of the way place. Soho is an area that is more popular with tourists than actual New Yorkers. If a Gudrun store were further uptown, I would shop there more instead of ordering from the webshop. How about Chelsea? Or the Upper East or West Side?

I've been in here twice and had to conclude, reluctantly, that this brand is not for me. The first time, the very helpful saleswoman helped me pick out some things to try: I am petite and normally go for a more body-skimming fit, but she was confident that some of the clothes could work. Everything looked like a paper bag on me (coarse fabric, shapeless cut), except for the too-thin cotton jersey, which made me look bulgy. The dress that looked great on the saleswoman was beyond hideous on me: I didn't even know I could look THAT bad. The second time I observed the sales person recommending a simple dress to a customer, ordered it online in my size, and really liked the lyocell fabric. I have not since seen anything that wouldn't overwhelm me. But I am glad these clothes seems to work for many others and envy them a bit, as the nordic prints and cheerful colors seem so fun.

Colorful, well designed, well made, comfortable clothes that look and feel good. Designs feel fresh yet timely. These are clothes and one can wear for years to come. The store clerks, dressed head to toe in GS, were rather snooty, which seems ironic given the upbeat, friendly environ of the store, hence, deducting a star. I visited this store several times for the 40th anniversary celebration weekend. Love the location. The first visit, got plenty of service and help. On my second visit, not one person even approached me to offer assistance or say hello (and, the store was not crowded).

I ordered an ironing board cover on August 9. It arrived today August 31. Good quality, nice design but too short -- not standard U.S.length. I'm really disappointed after waiting all this time. I do a lot of sewing and wanted something colorful and attractive. I soaked it in water and stretched it as much as possible. Yes, the measurements were in their catalog but I never figured the size would be different than standard U.S. iron board. This is from Carol B -- not Bob B!!!!! What's with Yelp!!

Online customer service is poor at best at the Greene street store. Ordered a dress which has still not been delivered in over two weeks. BTW, I live in Manhattan.

Some really great clothes and styles to combine or that one piece and for all sizes and ages. I love it. Clothes that are really different. The shop is a lovely space. I took off one star because sometimes the fabrics aren't as good quality as one might wish at the price, despite their Eco label and the leather boots while looking great are killers on the feet

Beautiful clothes - the colors, the patterns, are all so unique. I spent entirely too much money here, but know that I'm wearing pieces which will be unique My husband (who was patiently waiting for me in the shop - which has seating - while I shopped) laughed that all of the sales women resembled me in one way or another.

I've been following this brand for a long time online and never bought anything. I was thrilled to see that they had a store in NYC and it would be open when I was visiting from Michigan. I went there yesterday and spent a lot of money. I agree with the previous reviewer that that knit tanks and tops are quite expensive compared to the dresses and pants. The staff is wonderful, they really know the store, are able to give real advice about dressing for your body type and they treat everyone well. I don't find this to be common in Soho, especially if you're a bigger size. And this may be the only place you can buy anything in Soho if you're a bigger size, except candles, purses, shoes or jewelry. I loved the place and I hope they're successful. I will now start shopping online with them.
