11 Best Parks in Vancouver | Condé Nast Traveler

"Guelph isn't a large park, nor is it the loveliest in town. But "Dude Chilling Park," as it's known—yes, really—is without a doubt one of the most talked-about parks in Vancouver. In 1991, "Reclining Figure," a statue by Michael Dennis, was given a home in this East Van park. Though abstract, the figure—a dude—evoked the image of a person laying on his side, relaxing and, well, chilling. In 2012, things took a turn when the Guelph Park sign was quietly replaced with a very official-looking alternative that read “Dude Chilling Park.” But this was not an official renaming of the park; rather, it was a prank art installation by local artist Viktor Briestensky. The name stuck." - Guy Saddy

Guelph Park shares the space with Duke Chilling Park …Duke Chilling Park was first identified with a humorous flare and with community support, it was recognized as an official park space…this entire park is dog friendly, with a children’s playground and The Brewery Creek Community Garden which makes this park a very interesting community focused area..plenty of space to relax and view the wide range of activities …

A nice playground for youngsters with slides and a few swings. Tennis courts, too. Directly adjacent (east side) of Dude Chilling Park, just separated by a walkway. Centrally located. Next to Mt. Pleasant school which has a substantial playground area and fields.

Guelph Park is an ideal place for morning exercise or an evening stroll. An open walkway in the centre of the park connects a tree-lined field and a recreation area with playground and tennis courts. Whether visiting the park to sit on a shaded bench or to play a game of tennis, Guelph is sure to be a pleasant retreat. The site was named Guelph Park on March 13, 1972, after the bounding street which in turn recognized the family name of Queen Victoria.

The park is super convenient and is such a great spot for a morning dog walk. Usually there are lots of dog owners in the morning so it’s a great time to socialise your pet. In fall the colours are spectacular. Only thing is recently homeless people have been occupying off to the side of the park.

The food trucks at the farmer's market were amazing. I was a little late in the day for the community garage sale, but it seemed cool

It's also known as Dude Chilling bc of the former organic n original sculpture called dude chilling. It's now a long lasting copper sculpture. It's a moderate sized park, which hosts quite a few benches and picnic tables come late Spring or early Summer. It gets very well used when the weather is reliably warm n sunny. Also there's a community garden attached to the park tennis courts. It also has some great trees for shade. There once was an area for playing volleyball/badminton, but the Westside pole broke/rusted away n has yet to be replaced. IDK if there's any plans to. The last pole remaining has been delightfully knitbombed. It's also a park well used by dogs and their owners. I find it delightful to watch the dogs run around play fetch or with each other. Many of the owners seem to be mindful of people's preferences to not want dogs to greet them or otherwise. In any case, it's a good little park. Hope you decide to come n enjoy it

Dude Chilling Park is honestly very chill. It’s extremely chilly in the winter, but in the summer it’s chill in a hotter way, lots of tanners. Plenty of chill dudes and girls if you are open minded and the dogs are super chill too. Just a chill spot honestly. They don’t have too much there, some grass and paths but to be real you don’t need much more than that to just hangout or have a picnic or something. I love dogs and there are dogs there all the time, they also have to be on a leash too which can get uncomfortable but you get used to it.

Yelp
Located in the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood of Vancouver, this 2.5 acre park is a lovely bit of green for the area. An open walkway bisects the park's tree-lined field where you can have a stroll, romp with your puppy, or sit on a shady bench and read/people-watch. The park also has a recreation area with a playground and two tennis courts, if you're feeling sportier. During our visit, we were there to attend a pig roast picnic thrown by friends. The day was warm and the pig was tasty. What I didn't expect was that wasps (hornets?) loved pork so damned much. They were bloody everywhere and not dissuaded by our wasp traps that people laid out. We found an easy parking spot close to our destination. We also learned from our local friends that Guelph Park was also known as "Dude Chilling Park". It seems that a local artist stole the official park sign and replaced it with an exact replica, changing the name from Guelph Park to Dude Chilling Park in honour of a reclining bendy tube statue located within. The city removed the parody sign but area residents wanted it to remain. A petition was circled and due to a successful social media campaign, park officials agreed to reinstall the Dude Chilling Park sign as a piece of "public art." The park is still legally named Guelph but locals will know what you mean if you reference Dude Chilling.

Yelp
This park has been renamed Dude Chilling Park! Sorry Guelph Park! Worth a visit just for the name alone! Very peaceful neighborhood park to chill in. Have a tennis court. Go for a visit just to say you have been there.

Yelp
Probably not a park to be boisterous and having a good time, but more peace and quiet. In a residential hood of Mount Pleasant.
