Absolutely amazing. If you are interested in paint or paint making, or are an artist, this is worth the visit regardless of where you are in the city. Staff are super friendly and knowledgeable, while also being safety forward. Genuinely wished I lived in the city so I could visit more often.

Guerra Paint & Pigment stands out for having a spectacular selection of finely milled pigment dispersions. (Which can be mixed with a binder of your choice to make custom paints). Plus, the staff were expert, friendly and helpful.

By far the best experience buying pigment! These folks are fast, friendly, and incredibly helpful. The care they take in shipping is absolutely first rate. IMO, anyone should look forward to a great experience when doing business with these folks.

Paint making supplies! They have not just acrylic medium but also urethane, in different strengths and sheens. Shelves and shelves of beautiful pigments and dispersions, even one last made in 1974 (Phthalo Teal). You can order online too but at the store they have sample books and a sample wall.

Guerra Paint sells the individual components that go into water based paint so that you may make your own paint. This grants you complete control and allows you to make higher quality paint at a lower cost. Guerra Paint sells many unique high quality artist paint making materials at very resonable prices. I have ordered from the website several times and have always been very satisfied. Shipping has always been fast and everything has been well packaged. I have called the store before with questions and they were very helpful and knowledgeable. If you are a artist or designer it is worthwhile to experiment with some of their materials, you will probably love them!

Simply put, the best artist acrylic paint system on the market that I know of. And by far: the number of pigments is huge, some are impossible to find anywhere else, a real treasure. Most of the dispersions are near perfection and the products come well documented.

When it comes to colors or, like, painting I am not the person who you should ask for any advice. Thank god there are literal experts that you *by you, I mean I* can actually speak to. And Guerra is it. I came here last week to get a color-- unfortunately, I wasn't paying attention and there was a mix-up on the the shade I bought. Thankfully, these guys are great and made an exchange for exactly what I wanted with no questions asked. While this place is usually for painters I was able to procure a weirdo.com color for a piece of furniture that I wanted to repaint. Now with the perfect color in tow, I was able to paint a vanity *exactly* like the shade of some rando tile I found on le interwebz. I'm pretty sure you could get that kind of color match at your local hardware store. Obviously, it ain't cheap to buy this kind of paint for furniture, but if you need a hyper specific tone this is the place for you.

i knew this place was a winner when i called to ask a specific question about mixing their pigments w/a lime based paint & Mr. Guerra expertly guided me to everything I could ever need more. This is a haven of brilliance & artistry.

I have spent the past 2 years in San Francisco engulfed in the painting world through EVERYONE around me. While I am not a painter I am a collector, an avid art goer, engaged to a painter, and living with painters...I've come to know painting and drawing very well. The long of the short is that my fiancee swears by these paints and has been having them shipped west since we moved here. This past weekend we went in person while we were in NYC and I got to see the store in person as well as meet the staff. It is a tiny little shop with samples of every color they do painted on the wall to your left so you can see them out of the bottle and imagine them on your canvas or surface of choice. The rest of the shop is homemade wooden shelves filled with every color you can imagine and their mixing station in the back. The owner (I presume he was the owner) was beyond knowledgeable and wrapped up in conversation with the other client in the room as they discussed which colors would be right for his current work based on hue, texture, transparency, etc. It was obvious he knew paint, and he loved helping people find the paint that was right for them. My fiancee loves the small (5oz?) bottles because they are solely pigment which she can mix with a variety of substances to achieve the look she is going for so they last a long time and are extremely versatile. She was in need of some variations on traditional colors which Guerra absolutely had, so all and all we were extremely happy. To cap things off you get a 10% discount for being a student. We both highly recommend Guerra and I know we will always buy from them both from the store and online.

Guerra Paint and Pigments have always been knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. While it is true you can drop a great deal of money here, the savings comes about because you can mix paints of far greater quality than commercial professional grade paints such as Golden, Liquitex, Winsor Newton, etc. for half the price. Still. People have told me over and over again that they are shocked my paintings are done in acrylic and not oil. And if Acrylic is not as luminous as oil, it is a lot more user friendly. You can layer it without worrying about the paint layer as in oil, the chemistry is simpler, and the drying time is about a day. Period. If you are a serious painter and work in acrylic, this is the place for you. It is also as far as I know, the only place left that still makes artist grade paint dispersions, pre-ground in water, thus making paint that much easier.

Very friendly and helpful resource where the artist can not only find and procure cool pigments but also really learn something useful from the wealth of experience and knowledge available. Located in a quiet nook of the east village just blocks from the L train and close to everything else you need to do that day!

Awesome place. Just happened to walk by one afternoon and was drawn in by their wall of color swatches. I had no idea what they did but once inside I received a tour of the place and what they do form the lovely owner. He showed us that a little bit of their super concentrated pigment can go a long way. Really useful economically as well as space saving. Made me want to start an art project asap!!!

This store gets five stars just for still being around! I may have never made a purchase here, maybe a couple, but when I moved to NYC in Fall '93 I lived in a squat at 537-9 east 13th, and this store always made me glad to be on the same street. I do paint, however, but mostly silkscreen with acrylics...that said, based on the other reviews I will stop in and see what they have...and I may be ready for oils!

Best source for pigments. Their binders are also high quality. No more tubes for me. In the long run you also save a lot of money in paint shipping when you make your own.

Mixing your own pigments results in more vivid, solid colors than buying store brand paints. The quality of my paintings have significantly improved since I discovered Guerrra. You can buy your own pigment dispersions or powders, and mix them with binders. The oh so friendly and knowledgeable people there even give you demonstrations on how to mix with each binder for the effect or paint quality you are looking for. Excellent store, a couple of blocks from the L train, highly recommended if you are a professional artist who wants to make better quality paintings. Oh and these pigments are also good for mixing with silkscreen medium too, as readymade silkscreen ink color can be limiting- I've made the best prints ever from Guerra pigments. This really is as good as paint can get.

I've been buying paint making supplies from the good folks at Guerra Paint and Pigment for more than a decade and I just can't say enough about the excellent service they've provided me.
