We had such a lovely 3-night stay. We interacted with 3-4 different hotel staff members prior to and during our visit - all were incredibly kind and very helpful! They respond quickly to email to answer any questions, recommendation, reservation requests and more. Their service is really exceptional and a highlight of this hotel. We were welcomed with water, snacks and a map while they explained the city and directions to orient our visit. They even provided a recommendation for pastel de nata at a placed called Castro - which had the best pastel de nata of our entire Portugal vacation! We stayed in room 401 without a river view, and had a great accommodation with elevator access. Everything super clean each day and the beds are comfy. Even though you are right by the river and it can be loud outside, we didn’t hear a thing inside! We were provided with water bottles upon request as needed each day. The included breakfast was fabulous - all fresh fruit from the Bolhao market with many options from fresh cooked eggs made to order, yogurt/granola bowls, croissants, fresh juice of the day, and more. Know that because this hotel is by the river, it is at the bottom of a steep hill, so for those who like to be by the river, that may not be an issue and would be a good location. For us, all our destinations were at the top of the hill. However, the staff are super helpful in booking a taxi if needed, like we did to get to the train station with our luggage, and the taxi pulled up right outside the hotel. Also note that there is a call button / doorbell to ring when you arrive - they are quick to respond, but it took us a few minutes to see the button and know what to do. 😅

Luis and Louisa made our stay absolutely perfect! They helped us order Ubers (Ubers don't drive down to the tiny alley the guest house is on) , booked our train to Lisbon and gave recommendations to authentic Portuguese restaurants. Guest House Douro is a very small 8 room hotel and their attention to detail does not go unnoticed. The breakfast was lovely; fresh fruits and pastries and eggs just the way you like them:) The location was great;walking distance to everything!

Fantastic location, helpful staff, and outstanding breakfast! We were so lucky to book this accommodation thanks to Rick Steves Portugal guide book. Located close to the water and within walking distance to all Porto amenities. For a treat enjoy lunch or dinner across the lane at Taberna Dos Fernandes. Food is outstanding, arrive early as you will need to wait in line. Highly recommend this guest house!!

Our stay at Guest House Douro, in Building #99, was truly unforgettable and a major reason why Porto became our favorite stop on our European tour. Philip and Luis provided exceptional service, making us feel completely at home from the moment we arrived. Every morning, Luis prepared unbelievable breakfasts that were the perfect start to our days of exploring. Nestled right in the heart of historic Oporto, the guesthouse offers stunning views and easy access to everything the city has to offer. If you want a personal, beautiful experience in Porto, staying here is an absolute must!

Exceptional service and location. From the time we made the booking until after we left the hotel Luis, Phillip and team were extremely helpful and made our stay in Porto so enjoyable. The rooms are charming, compact but very clean and well appointed, we had a view of the river which was lovely.|Breakfast was delicious, fresh fruit, breads, cheeses, yoghurt, eggs, juice, coffee. We hope to visit again one day. Thank you to all at Guesthouse Douro

The room was tiny as others have mentioned but it was quite nice. We could open our windows and look out over the river and the pedestrian areas below. The two young men who ran the front desk and breakfast were both great to talk to and very helpful. The included breakfast was amazing. The table would be set with fresh fruit and a choice of breads, meats, cheeses and other items. Then we were served a choice of juices. This was enough for us but we were also offered eggs and there were probably other options. There was a glitch one morning due to a gas leak, but we just took a little walk around the area while valves were closed and the fire department checked for safety. They even gave us a bottle of wine for our trouble.

My sister and I stayed there last night. It was so perfect I had to review right away. Louisa, Luis and Hugo were so welcoming and helpful. The room was small but comfortable. We slept very well and Hugo made a beautiful breakfast. Highly recommend!

Of course, the location is perfect just steps from the beautiful Douro River, the breakfast is perfect and intimate with personalised service, and the room is clean and comfortable with cozy views and ample, luxury amenities. However the main reason I will have my son and his fiance stay here when they visit me in Porto is The people who work for Guest House Douro. Their understanding of hospitality exceeds the perfunctory and emerges as genuine, warm, helpful, kind words, actions, and attitude that make Guest House Douro my number one choice for family or friends coming to Porto for work or pleasure. Grazie mille, sei troppo gentile. Mille bisses. Muchas gracias. Muito obrigada, mi amigos.

Yelp
We splurged in Porto and stayed in this immaculate boutique hotel. The breakfast of fresh fruit was artfully plated and tasted delicious along with an array of baked goods as well as cheese and ham. The rooms were spotless and the bedding luxurious but what truly sets the Guest House Douro apart is the staff. They are there to ensure you have everything you want or need. Every time you walk in the door they will provide you with a drink of your choice.

Yelp
Hugo and Luisa are magnificent hosts - they work very hard to make your visit comfortable and inviting. The rooms are small, although very carefully appointed. The river view rooms have a wonderful prospect over the Duoro and nightlife on the river bank. Breakfasts are beautiful: gorgeous and delicious fruits; meats & cheeses; and a variety of baked goods. The location is AMAZING - easy walking distance to all the downtown sites. If you are coming in a car, be sure to reach out in advance to understand the parking logistics. There is no automotive access to the guest house, but Hugo and Luisa can make it work for you.

Yelp
A real gem. This is a small place (8 rooms) in a great location along the river. The rooms are small but beautifully appointed with high end modern appointments and spotlessly maintained. The breakfast is quite spectacular in a smallish room on the first floor which requires timed seatings in order to accommodate all the guests. But the true heart of the operation are the gracious, friendly and delightful owners Carmen and Joao. They could not be more helpful, from recommending things to do, places to eat or providing a running commentary on matters Portuguese. It is a guesthouse and not a hotel. Some criticisms on other websites have noted there are rules (such as guests must be in by 1am or risk being out all night) but we found them perfectly reasonable and acceptable. We have travelled all over the world and have rarely had a better lodging experience.

Yelp
Just returned from Portugal. Absolutely loved this well appointed, well located small guest house. It was off season and between COVID variants so for a couple of nights we were the only guests. Rooms are small, but spotless and well thought out. The staff and owners were so at the ready to answer any questions, and attend to our needs. They made suggestions and reservations at nearby excellent small restaurants that we thoroughly enjoyed. As COVID was still a major issue, testing was a bit of a necessary drag. The staff was beyond helpful in guiding us to testing sites as well as helping us upload documents that were necessary to move onto our next destination, Madeira. Breakfast was beautifully presented and plentiful, but it is a continental breakfast. If you are expecting a protein rich experience, this is not it. Very typical of small European inns and guest houses. Nice touch included offering us a glass of wine in the late afternoon or a glass of port after returning from dinner.Lovely people running a charming experience.

Yelp
Can't give enough kudos to Carmen and Joao, the Douro House owners/operators and their wonderful assistant Sonia! If all of our hotel stays were like this B&B travel life would be a dream. Douro House guests are treated more like extended family than mere customers. The rooms, while small by US standards, are very comfortable and extremely clean. Joao's breakfast creations are as much artwork as a great dining experience. I and other guests remarked that it was almost a shame to dive into the fruit dish! But that did not stop us, of course. Yummy! Sonia - a delight and a font of knowledge regarding how to traverse Porto, go shopping, eating out, etc. And the welcoming glasses of fine port wine.... a wonderful way to unwind at day's end! Douro House is where I will recommend all of my friends and family to stay while in Porto.
