Our stay at Guest House Douro was amazing! From the moment we arrived, the warm and friendly welcome made our experience unforgettable. The staff were amazing—kind, friendly, and always ready to help. I had forgotten to bring my wall adaptor for European outlets, and they kindly lent me one for the duration of my stay. Special thanks to Phillip and Luis, who went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed. Luisa made our morning extra special during breakfast, which was hands-down the best breakfast we’ve had at any hotel. We were sad to leave early and miss the chance to enjoy another amazing breakfast. The breakfast experience felt like dining at home or in a private dining experience, with fresh fruits, freshly squeezed juices, with eggs cooked to your preference. It was a delightful and personal touch that we’ll never forget. The rooms were clean and cozy. Our room had a charming view of the street with a Juliet balcony, allowing us to take in the beautiful cobblestones and admire the unique architecture of Porto. The location is right in the heart of Porto, making it easy to explore on foot. Guest House Douro exceeded all our expectations, and we couldn’t recommend it more. If you’re visiting Porto, book your stay here—you won’t regret it!

This was an awesome place to stay with great proximity to everything. The rooms were awesome with great views of the river. The service provided by Luisa at the front desk was beyond compare. The breakfast service was amazing where they personally made items you wanted. All in all a great experience and would definitely recommend this place to everyone

Staff were super warm, friendly and helpful and was a real joy to stay there. Breakfast was amazing, fresh, colorful and delicious. The location is right behind the seafront and is in the heart of the old city

Great little hotel. We were a bit weary of the standard Portugal buffet breakfast. Breakfast here was excellent. Staff were very attentive, friendly and helpful, offering suggestions and helping with reservations. Perfect location on a tiny street (well, not really a street -- no cars).

This lovely guesthouse is in a perfect location in Porto right near the river and handy to lots of cafes and restaurants. The staff are what makes this place. Luis, Philip, Ogle and Luisa. They are all wonderful, but we mostly spent our breakfasts with Luis and it was always lovely chatting to him. We enjoyed the beautifully prepared daily breakfast - the nicest fruit platter ever each day and you could also order eggs the day before and the omelettes were delicious too! I miss seeing Luis' cheery face at breakfast now we are home - no fruit platter, juice, eggs waiting for us when we get out of bed! Porto is a lovely city. The people are genuinely nice. Tips for eating - the restaurants on the river charge about twice the price than the ones up the hill or across the river in Gaia, naturally because you have a very nice view. If you walkup the hill to R Das Floras there are some nice restaurants up there, and in that general vicinity. They have some nice cocktails in Porto - one using Port and Tonic and one using Limoncello and Tonic. Nice with ice and fresh slice or orange or lemon. We would definitely stay at this property again. Highly recommend.

Very well located hotel. The service was spectacular, especially Luis who went out of his way to make us and our toddler feel at home. The breakfast was great with fresh fruit, made to order eggs, cheese, bread and cold cuts. The rooms are on the small side but you don’t need much else with everything there is to do in Porto.

Google
Yes Luis is a star. His welcome was so enthusiastic and helpful, however all the staff are fantastic, they are the greatest asset of the guest house. The lovely breakfast was professionally served. Ive never seen a fruit platter so attractively presented. We had a lovely room overlooking the river, so close to everything within walking distance. Be prepared for steep cobbled streets. We avoided a climb by using the fanicular railway to get up into town. We absolutely loved Porto and the experience we had at the Guest House added greatly to our enjoyment.

Yelp
We splurged in Porto and stayed in this immaculate boutique hotel. The breakfast of fresh fruit was artfully plated and tasted delicious along with an array of baked goods as well as cheese and ham. The rooms were spotless and the bedding luxurious but what truly sets the Guest House Douro apart is the staff. They are there to ensure you have everything you want or need. Every time you walk in the door they will provide you with a drink of your choice.

Yelp
Hugo and Luisa are magnificent hosts - they work very hard to make your visit comfortable and inviting. The rooms are small, although very carefully appointed. The river view rooms have a wonderful prospect over the Duoro and nightlife on the river bank. Breakfasts are beautiful: gorgeous and delicious fruits; meats & cheeses; and a variety of baked goods. The location is AMAZING - easy walking distance to all the downtown sites. If you are coming in a car, be sure to reach out in advance to understand the parking logistics. There is no automotive access to the guest house, but Hugo and Luisa can make it work for you.

Yelp
A real gem. This is a small place (8 rooms) in a great location along the river. The rooms are small but beautifully appointed with high end modern appointments and spotlessly maintained. The breakfast is quite spectacular in a smallish room on the first floor which requires timed seatings in order to accommodate all the guests. But the true heart of the operation are the gracious, friendly and delightful owners Carmen and Joao. They could not be more helpful, from recommending things to do, places to eat or providing a running commentary on matters Portuguese. It is a guesthouse and not a hotel. Some criticisms on other websites have noted there are rules (such as guests must be in by 1am or risk being out all night) but we found them perfectly reasonable and acceptable. We have travelled all over the world and have rarely had a better lodging experience.

Yelp
Just returned from Portugal. Absolutely loved this well appointed, well located small guest house. It was off season and between COVID variants so for a couple of nights we were the only guests. Rooms are small, but spotless and well thought out. The staff and owners were so at the ready to answer any questions, and attend to our needs. They made suggestions and reservations at nearby excellent small restaurants that we thoroughly enjoyed. As COVID was still a major issue, testing was a bit of a necessary drag. The staff was beyond helpful in guiding us to testing sites as well as helping us upload documents that were necessary to move onto our next destination, Madeira. Breakfast was beautifully presented and plentiful, but it is a continental breakfast. If you are expecting a protein rich experience, this is not it. Very typical of small European inns and guest houses. Nice touch included offering us a glass of wine in the late afternoon or a glass of port after returning from dinner.Lovely people running a charming experience.

Yelp
Can't give enough kudos to Carmen and Joao, the Douro House owners/operators and their wonderful assistant Sonia! If all of our hotel stays were like this B&B travel life would be a dream. Douro House guests are treated more like extended family than mere customers. The rooms, while small by US standards, are very comfortable and extremely clean. Joao's breakfast creations are as much artwork as a great dining experience. I and other guests remarked that it was almost a shame to dive into the fruit dish! But that did not stop us, of course. Yummy! Sonia - a delight and a font of knowledge regarding how to traverse Porto, go shopping, eating out, etc. And the welcoming glasses of fine port wine.... a wonderful way to unwind at day's end! Douro House is where I will recommend all of my friends and family to stay while in Porto.
