I had the best time at Pongi guest house 😍 Nina and Masaki are incredibly kind and welcoming, you directly feel at home. Every night an activity is planned, which I was always looking forward to: we did origami, cooking, etc. It was so cosy, and they explained to me many very interesting fact about the Japanese culture and Kanazawa. It also makes it very easy to connect with other travellers and have a great time all together. |Also the location is perfect, 10 min walking from train station, and the beds and rooms are very confortable. |I would 100% recommend, it added great memories to my trip to Japan 😊

Pongyi feels more like a home than a guesthouse, I love all the traditional decorations, and cozy vibe of the place! But Nina-san & Masaki-san are the ones who make this place absolutely wonderful, they make sure you feel welcoming, I loved talking with them and my roommates while learning some katakana and kanji! Without a doubt one of the most memorable experiences in my trip! Thank you again☺️💛

Masaki-San told a lot about Japanese culture and the history of Pongyi.|We had an awesome Nabe Pongyi party which was delicious and fun!||Thank you again Nina-san & Masaki-san I will definitely be coming back

Wow what an amazing place! Guest House Pongyi was the best place we stayed in Japan. My partner and I wanted to try out a variety of different types of accommodations on our trip, from luxury hotels to hostels, but Pongyi was by far the best. We stayed for two nights and while we were there it really felt like a family. Each night there was a small event (origami the first night and making takoyaki on the second night) where most of the guest would get together and chat while the two wonderful owners (Nina and Masaki) would share insights into Japanese culture and Kanazawa. The whole house is very clean and the shared accommodation is comfortable and well organized. Breakfast is also great and reasonably priced (Nina makes a great breakfast sandwich!). We both felt a little sad when we had to leave, but we hope we can come back and stay here again someday soon!!

Pongyi was one of the highlights of our trip. Travelled as a pair, stayed in the female dormitory (fits 4 people) for two nights. The house was apparently an old kimono shop repurposed as a guest house; the building itself is very charming and old, though the facilities themselves are modern and kept very clean. The beds of the dormitory were spacious, and there was comfortable air conditioning that kept the summer heat at bay. Safety protocols were in place for coming back home late. As many reviews have stated, the hostess Nina-san and host Masaki-san really help make Pongyi feel special. Nina-san was there for most of our stay. I was happy to converse with her in Japanese, and she was very kind and understanding. She is also skilled at English, and my friend who spoke only English felt very happy being able to have extended conversations with a local. Nina-san had a giant binderful of suggestions for places around Kanazawa to visit and eat at. She also taught us origami :) Masaki-san was super kind and made us shaved ice. That evening was very special to us. It was also really nice meeting travellers from other destinations! I'd recommend it especially for solo travellers and small groups. Since the female dormitory is upstairs, it would be good to keep light luggage and/or forward luggage to your next destination so it's not too much trouble. It was still OK for us. Thank you for the fantastic trip. If we ever come to Kanazawa again, we will be sure to stay here.

Nina and Masaki are the loviest of people that you'd expect to host a B&B Hostel. They engage the other travellers with activities and they get the conversation going in a very friendly atmosphere and relaxed setting. We did Origami which was very interesting, both hosts are very interesting people with fascinating personal stories. ||It is a peaceful place and there is a Bird living there named Peace and he is lovely and very friendly. He will engage with you also. Although, he lives in a cage for his protection! ||There are many local restaurants and Cafes surrounding The Pongyi and there's a 7/11 right across the road for ready made food and comfort conveniences such candies and drinks. ||The Hostel was an amazing experience, it isn't just somewhere to lay your head, it's another Japanese experience adding to your new chapter of memories made only in Japan! I loved it!!||This is a late post, I stayed there 0n 7th October 2023

Nina-san and Masaki-san were the most welcoming and amazing pair! |From the start, I felt as though they were looking out for me and making sure I had an amazing time in Kanazawa. Above and beyond hospitality! ||On the second evening, we went shopping together for ingredients and were treated to a home-style meal, which I can without-a-doubt say, was my favourite meal in Japan! |Nina-san's cooking was phenomenal, and Misaki-san had so much knowledge about Kanazawa and Japanese culture that he was so excited to teach us. They invited my friends, who were staying at other accomodation that night, and we had a wonderful evening! Highlight of my whole trip!

Yelp
1000/10 If you don't book this place for a Kanazawa stay then you are missing out. When we were greeted, it was by Maru, a very nice and knowledgeable lady that will tell you all you need to know about your visit/stay. The rooms are in the Japanese traditional style and very cozy with very good bathrooms and lounge area. Our stay in the city was hindered by a snow storm but at night when it quieted down after a calligraphy class Maru's son, Masaki, took us to a sento and around the town. Great!
