Best hostel I've been is Japan.
The room is big, with a big locker to store your belongings (I could fit a 16" laptop with a camera bag of body + 3 lenses, so it's big).
You get a curtain that fully blocks the light, and gives you good privacy.
The way the room & beds are aligned makes it very comfortable, it doesn't feel tight in space, like other hostels in Japan.
The shared space and lounge is great, I met there some nice people and we hanged out there, and went to a Karaoke that's right in front of the hostel.
The WiFi is strong, I could get some work done and make some calls, and the lounge is very comfortable for sitting with a laptop.
Location is very convenient to get to places inside Beppu, and in general close to Beppu Kitahama bus station (5 min walk)
And the price was fairly cheap for a hostel in Japan, and for what you get in the price.
The kitchen was very basic, you could make some basic things like omlet, but that's it.
(I wish it had more common things like oil, so I don't have to buy)
There was also one shower for men, and one for women, so sometimes it's occupied and you have to wait.
(I could shower in the sauna room, but you have no privacy)
