Guesthouse Borealis is conveniently located and just about 10 minutes from both train and bus station. Bus number 8, heading for Santa Claus Village, stops almost around the corner. Walking to the city centre takes a bit more time, but is easily manageable as well.
The reception closes at 10 pm, so make sure to mail them if you are arriving late. In front of the entrance door, you will then find an envelope in the black letterbox with the key and a welcoming letter with further information. So far, so good, ...
So why just 3 stars?
When I entered the room, I knew within a second that I would not enjoy a good nights rest and I should be right. Some nerve-racking noise was coming from the AC in the ceiling right.above.my.bed! It sounded like a storm in the distance. So annoying and no switch to turn it off!
The room itself was clean, but very basic with little space to move. Breakfast next morning - always 7.30 to 10 - was basic as well, but tasted very good. But all in all, I am sad to say that 53 € per night are way to much for accommodation of that kind. I even had to find out that other rooms are really nicely decorated and very appealing. Why not all rooms?
The lady running this place was nice and pleasant, but did not do anything to recompensate me for my sleepless night. At least, she switched off the AC on my second night and I could sleep deeply and soundly.
I came across that kind of AC again and again while travelling Finland, so it seems to be quite common, but at other places it used to be in the bathroom and not that loud. On the one hand, it might be true that the guesthouse cannot do much about it, but I was really glad not to have this storm sound machine one more time above my head at night.
