Guesthouse Mintaro Hut

We had a very nice stay at Mintaros. They all made us feel very welcome and it created such a beautiful ambience where we could interact with people from everywhere. Thank you so much for the Japanese lessons, for the amazing meals and for the cat love!!!! PS: if you’re going to stay in this guesthouse please be advised they have dinner all together at 19:30h (you have to give a donation) and the food was delicious!!! Typical from the area and sooooooo flavorful. Thank you again!

I visited back in September 2023, i booked the rooms through their website. although I arrived there at 10pm, they welcomed me with free dinner and offered me some sip of their homemade sake. there were other people staying there and we talked a lot to eachother. although my japanese my broken, they were really understanding and helpful towards me. I really felt like home, they even shared their stories while offering me more drinks, the check out time wasnt strict so I could rest a bit more in the morning. overall unforgettable experience and I would recommend for solo backpackers or even 2 person backpacking rest place. love from Indonesia.

Hide and his staff Tomone were very welcoming. They gave us a tour of the house and invited us to their family meal (donation based). This meal was by far the best meal we've had in Japan, home cooked, healthy and extremely homey and comforting. If home cooked meals aren't your thing then the house is also stocked with snacks and quick food you can heat/warm up for a reasonable price. We really enjoyed family meal, it gave us an opportunity to meet the other guests and chat with Hide about his recipes. Thank you for everything! We hope to be back again soon!

Absolutely one of my top favorite hostels in Japan, and I've been to every prefecture. The aesthetic of this guest house is extremely cozy, it feels more as if you're a guest at the owners house rather than a customer. That experience is further enhanced by the owner and staff cooking dinner every night creating an excellent atmosphere to mingle with other guest and the staff. As a heads up, this is Tohoku, so many of the guest may only speak Japanese, so it's a good place to practice.

The owner is very welcoming! Keepａlovely cat called Natsuko😸 Staff can speak both English and Japanese😍 And dinner is free donation start around 7:30p.m. Morning is making by yourself with free ingredients in the refrigerator （toast egg jam milk juice ）🧡 The place is very near to the 山形城 Wark around 18mins to the 山形駅 I will definitely love to come again when i visit 山形 ✨✨

Traveling is the nice chance to explore city culture and realize the lifestyle of the people whose live here. If you stay Guesthouse Mintaro Hut, you will love with yamagata. This is the best guesthouse in yamagata for me.Guesthouse Mintaro Hut can give every guest great stay experience like yourself home. If you stay here,you can eat some delicious food with yamagata vegetables and rice(雪若丸） during the dinner time（ゆんたく）.When you wake up in the morning, you can drink some coffee with fresh yamagata milk and toast for breakfast. Sincerely recommend your coming when you visit yamagata.

This place and the host (Hide san) were the highlights of my trip in Yamagata! Though this was my first time traveling there, I already knew that Mintaro Hut will be the only place I want to book my stay in the city of Yamagata. Hide san doesn’t speak much, but he and his staffs really take good care of guests; it has a fully equipped kitchen and the fridge stocked with many fresh ingredients for guests to use for free, every night the dinner party was the time that Hide san cooks with his heart to spoil his guests, room and the shared bathroom were very clean and well organized. The location was walkable from the train station, I stayed 3 nights and I enjoyed my morning walks to the station though the park.
