I've Been Legally Blind for Decades — Here's What It's Like to Travel the World on My Own

"This nonprofit trains and provides guide dogs at no charge, relying on volunteer puppy raisers who care for puppies for 18–24 months before a formal training program that includes realistic simulations (for example, mock TSA checks). The dogs are trained to be quiet and unobtrusive in public and on aircraft—often tucked under seats and comfortable in the travel footprint—and typically are placed with handlers around two years old and retire at eight to ten. The program emphasizes practical, real-world readiness for independent travel and has produced many long-serving, pattern-oriented companions that reliably navigate airports, trains, hotels and streets." - Thomas Panek and Rachel Chang

I've lived in the same town for many years, and finally went to one of their 'graduation' ceremonies. The people who are getting their guide dogs (at no charge to them) put in a lot of time, and the dogs are tremendously well trained in a spotless and comfortable environment. The difference these dogs make to people with sight disabilities is immeasurable, and it's a great experience. Donations here are going to a very, very good cause, and I'm proud to be a donor.

My daughter Sai Techawongtham just graduated from a 3-week training here. She will soon begin her junior year at Hendrix College, AR, a journey she will now share with Luther, her first guide dog. All this with no cost to her or us. We can't thank the Guiding Eyes team enough for their dedicated labour of love that has made this possible. Wish Thailand, our home country, enjoyed such great support for our blind population.

The reason I'm giving this school. A one is because there is no communication and false accusations that were given by this school. And the school doesn't step up and management doesn't take control of their staff. They don't sign waivers to get medical information from mere doctors. I prefer to go to a school that backs their clients. That is the reason why I have chosen to stay away from this school. I wish everybody the best. Of luck and I hope this school is the proper fit for you. Gradley appreciate everything that they've tried to do but has a loss of communication. Their staff needs to be more considerate of the the clients that are out there that are going through those struggles and hand all paperwork and the proper format and have more communication with their clients. Or soon to be clients

Be very careful with online donations with this organization. Even though you click the One time donation they change it at the end of your transaction to monthly donations. They should be ashamed of themselves. That’s the thanks you get for trying to help. Disgraceful! Will not be donating to them anymore.

What a wonderful organization. They are the best!!!! I cannot believe how great of a job they matched my wife with her guide dog. My wife has a special needs guide dog & how smart this animal is!!! It has elevated my wife's happiness to a very high level again & it seems to have made her the person she once was. The school ,I can not praise enough how hard they work to help blind & visually impaired people to try & get to live a normal life style again. Their dogs have to be the Best in the world. The school is international. I hope anyone reading this and is looking for a wonderful organization to donate money to,should send it to Guiding Eyes For The Blind, Yorktown Heights New York.

My experience with this wonderful company was none less than Exceptional!! I wish it was possible to give platinum stars instead of gold ones, because that would truly reflect the value of this company. I had the grand pleasure of speaking with Robin H and she easily surpassed my expectations of how customer service should be given. Thank You Robin!! She handled all of my concerns and questions.. she was Amazing.. Guiding Eyes.. thank you for putting people such as Robin in place because it just shows the heart of the company in its true intentions for all the customers and donors it serves. 10 star service!! 5 for Robin and 5 for Guiding Eyes

Guiding Eyes for the blind is a wonderful not-for-profit to donate to, or train puppies for. These dogs give Independence to those with very poor, or no vision. It is very rewarding and you'll meet the best people in dog class!

I received a wonderful guide dog from GEB in 2016. The training is top notch, and the staff is so supportive. I’d recommend this school to anyone considering a guide dog.
