I've Been Legally Blind for Decades — Here's What It's Like to Travel the World on My Own

"This nonprofit trains and provides guide dogs at no charge, relying on volunteer puppy raisers who care for puppies for 18–24 months before a formal training program that includes realistic simulations (for example, mock TSA checks). The dogs are trained to be quiet and unobtrusive in public and on aircraft—often tucked under seats and comfortable in the travel footprint—and typically are placed with handlers around two years old and retire at eight to ten. The program emphasizes practical, real-world readiness for independent travel and has produced many long-serving, pattern-oriented companions that reliably navigate airports, trains, hotels and streets." - Thomas Panek and Rachel Chang

I've lived in the same town for many years, and finally went to one of their 'graduation' ceremonies. The people who are getting their guide dogs (at no charge to them) put in a lot of time, and the dogs are tremendously well trained in a spotless and comfortable environment. The difference these dogs make to people with sight disabilities is immeasurable, and it's a great experience. Donations here are going to a very, very good cause, and I'm proud to be a donor.

My daughter Sai Techawongtham just graduated from a 3-week training here. She will soon begin her junior year at Hendrix College, AR, a journey she will now share with Luther, her first guide dog. All this with no cost to her or us. We can't thank the Guiding Eyes team enough for their dedicated labour of love that has made this possible. Wish Thailand, our home country, enjoyed such great support for our blind population.

The reason I'm giving this school. A one is because there is no communication and false accusations that were given by this school. And the school doesn't step up and management doesn't take control of their staff. They don't sign waivers to get medical information from mere doctors. I prefer to go to a school that backs their clients. That is the reason why I have chosen to stay away from this school. I wish everybody the best. Of luck and I hope this school is the proper fit for you. Gradley appreciate everything that they've tried to do but has a loss of communication. Their staff needs to be more considerate of the the clients that are out there that are going through those struggles and hand all paperwork and the proper format and have more communication with their clients. Or soon to be clients

Be very careful with online donations with this organization. Even though you click the One time donation they change it at the end of your transaction to monthly donations. They should be ashamed of themselves. That’s the thanks you get for trying to help. Disgraceful! Will not be donating to them anymore.

My experience with this wonderful company was none less than Exceptional!! I wish it was possible to give platinum stars instead of gold ones, because that would truly reflect the value of this company. I had the grand pleasure of speaking with Robin H and she easily surpassed my expectations of how customer service should be given. Thank You Robin!! She handled all of my concerns and questions.. she was Amazing.. Guiding Eyes.. thank you for putting people such as Robin in place because it just shows the heart of the company in its true intentions for all the customers and donors it serves. 10 star service!! 5 for Robin and 5 for Guiding Eyes

What a wonderful organization. They are the best!!!! I cannot believe how great of a job they matched my wife with her guide dog. My wife has a special needs guide dog & how smart this animal is!!! It has elevated my wife's happiness to a very high level again & it seems to have made her the person she once was. The school ,I can not praise enough how hard they work to help blind & visually impaired people to try & get to live a normal life style again. Their dogs have to be the Best in the world. The school is international. I hope anyone reading this and is looking for a wonderful organization to donate money to,should send it to Guiding Eyes For The Blind, Yorktown Heights New York.

Guiding Eyes for the blind is a wonderful not-for-profit to donate to, or train puppies for. These dogs give Independence to those with very poor, or no vision. It is very rewarding and you'll meet the best people in dog class!

I just returned from GEB on Sunday, June 25, 2017. I was a student in the June 2017 class. Words can't describe how wonderful Guiding Eyes is. The trainers are remarkable with the dogs, patient, compassionate and kindhearted. The administration is efficient, knowledgeable and kind. Every single person I encountered made me feel like I was part of a family. When it is time for my girl to retire I will go back to GEB, won't even consider another school. I don't know how I could ever give back as much as they have given me and all the students that go to GEB. My sincerest heartfelt thanks to everyone at GEB! You have made a lasting impression on my heart and proved to me I was capable of so much more than I gave myself credit for.

Yelp
Guiding Eyes is an agency my friends and I have supported for years. Being in the Human Services field we had to know the agencies that provided the services needed for individuals with special needs. We found this nonprofit organization to be highly respected and motivated to assist those less fortunate. I'm speaking from my experience and can't speak to their operations currently. I'm glad to see this Xmas card I received supports a very badly needed service. The dogs are absolutely amazing!

Yelp
Well it has taken me a couple of years to write a review. I received a Guiding Eye Lab. First I was told I will be the third person to receive the Lab. I asked why I was told they could not tell me. I had the Guide Dog for three weeks two weeks training and a week alone. The Guide Dog Dragged me to chase a cat.I had to lay there for awhile this was traumatizing and put me into a depression. Also they really need compassionate people not a trainer barking at you in 100 degree weather. Especially being that I worked part time and then had to walk in 100 degree weather with the Guide Dog and trainer. I had days off but never seen yhe trainer this days. I would n9t recommend this company and no one even checked on me that's what's really crazy. I was dragged threw a path & dirt never heard fe9m them when the Guide Dog was returned by my son.Till this day I am scared to get another one. The6 knew this Dog did not want to be a Guide Dog I was the third person so I feel they put me in danger. Thank you

Yelp
These guide dogs are amazing creatures and they have been such wonderful helpers for the Blind. I have 3 associates in Hong Kong who are blind and they appreciate these dogs so much that they believe God has given them a huge blessing having these guide dogs around. Guide dogs not only give them great companionship, being watchdogs, but also providing them so much freedom -- they used not to be able to walk too far away from the apartment. Now, they can travel and enjoy life like a normal person. Guiding Eyes is non-profit organization , it relies the Public for donation for the purpose of training, food, and other expenses. I wish more Blinds are benefiting from Guiding Eyes. Lord, please bless all Guiding Dogs in Training, so they can graduate successfully. Wishing continue success to the Organization. Faithful supporter, Bobo, LuckLuck and Snoopy's owner
