The Unexpected Joy of Learning an Endangered Language | Vogue

"A familiar museum in the Hamptons where I’ve gone countless times for art openings and theatrical performances, it became something else entirely on a tranquil November evening: seated among 15 local card sharks, I spent two hours playing Uno in Shinnecock as consonants flew through the air. As part of the First Literature Project, the event transformed Guild Hall’s cultural space into a lively, immersive setting for Indigenous language practice." - Cass Lovett

I love Guild Hall. 🩷 Such a great variety of performances in a beautiful space. Most recently, I saw the Met in HD there, and it was wonderful. I also go to Guild Hall for the Hamptons Film Festival, to hear great music, see lovely ballet, etc. I'm grateful for such a fantastic resource in my neighborhood, and highly recommend everyone catch a performance there!

The performance by Candace Bushnell about the history of her life in New York City and Sex in the City was outstanding. Guild Hall in East Hampton, NY is a perfect venue for unique performances.

I've recently discovered this artist in residency program and it's a gem! The theater experience is so intimate and the Q + A at the end really makes you feel like part of the creative process.

We love attending MetHdLive Operas at Guild Hall. A perfect setting. The huge screen and perfect sound and gently tiered seats make it a wonderful experience. And the close-ups enhance the audience feeling the emotions of the performers. Everyone who we referred to this has opted for more performances

Yelp
I was ashamed that I thought this was "Guilt Hall", and I couldn't stop thinking about the remorse. But it wasn't! So I was no longer remorseful. Try the ice water. It's to die for, or at least to fatally be wounded for! More later, in approximately 4 and a half years! -Future T.J.

Yelp
Just opened its 2017 summer season with "Angry Young Man," an absurd farce about the mishaps of a young Muslim doctor emigrating to England (co-production with NYC's Urban Stages). Four extremely talented actors work very hard to make this comedy, which debuted at the 2005 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, funny but too many of its jabs have become reality in the last 12 years. Director Stephen Hamilton is very talented and I laughed at some of the dialogue and Marx Brothers shtick. Show runs through June 18. This venue has a great upcoming line-up including NY Philharmonic musicians (June 24), benefit show with Jay Leno (July 1), new documentary screenings hosted by Alec Baldwin, a staged readying of Bob Morris's comedy "Assisted Loving" with Tovah Feldshuh and Richard Kind (July 28), and more goodies in August.

Yelp
My hosts for the week treated me to a showing of "Immortal Beloved". I am not a classical music fan, but I had a good time. The host for the evening was Alec Baldwin, who hosted a Q&A after the showing. The theater itself was very nice and preserved/restored.

Yelp
I've been here for so many school trips to see whatever crazy thing they want to "broaden our perspectives" about. The shows and films shown there (I hear from others) are amazing, but I should probably get off my butt and go. I can say firsthand though that the venue is a great looking place. I love historical landmarks still in existence around the Hamptons.

Yelp
I will admit that I had low expectations. I purchased tix for the Kidfest Jason Bishop show and figured it would be decent, post-beach air conditioned afternoon entertainment. I was completely wrong - it was a really memorable and terrific time. We arrived early and saw the Lichtenstein exhibit which was small but had a number of good pieces. It was nicely curated. One of the lobby employees approached me and asked if the kids would be interested in participating in a cookie decorating class but I said they wanted to see the pre-show bubble guy so I offered up my parents and in-laws. She happily invited them all to join the class and even set up a separate table for them! They had a great time and even took home goodie bags with extra cookies and tons of decorating equipment for the kids (who were in the lobby enjoying the bubble guy). But the main event was the best part - the magic show was phenomenal. Even my father-in-law, who is a tough critic, said Bishop was the best magician he'd ever seen. Bishop was funny and engaging and although he did some standards like the disappearing woman and card tricks, he performed some tricks that none of us have seen before. Everyone at Guild Hall - from the lobby folks to the cookie team to the performers - was fabulous. And to think - it was just $14/ticket for the entire afternoon. What a steal!
