"Colorful Lucca My husband and I visited Italy in May, and one of our favorite stops was the charming Tuscan town of Lucca. After wandering through the town for a few hours we decided to climb this tower, which offered a perfect view of Lucca from above. It's well worth the many steep stairs it takes to get to the top. One of the best things about Lucca is how colorful it is - most of the rustic bulidings are painted in traditional Tuscan shades of orange, red, yellow, and orange. Lucca is a must-see town on any trip through Tuscany."

A stunning view of one of the most authentic cities in Tuscany. Lucca is known as the “city of one hundred churches” and one tower - a true example of genius in simplicity. The climb is relatively quick and not too difficult, with spots to rest along the way. Reaching the top, you find yourself on a small 20-square-meter island among the trees, surrounded by mountains. It’s an incredible feeling. They’ve even managed to grow new trees up there — a tiny garden raised high above the city. The view is breathtaking from nearly every angle!

To my opinion this is a number one place to visit in Lucca. Its quite unique to see such a 45 m high tower made of brick and stone of local Romanesque-Gothic architecture with trees growing on its top. Just imagine, in the beginning of 14th century there was about 250 towers in Lucca! And as for every tower, if you climb up 233 steps you'll be awarded by 360deg view of old city of Lucca and surrounding mountains. View is stunning, just keep in mind the upper platform is very small that you can barely surround it because of crowds. Entrance is from behind the tower, not on the main street. If you want to buy ticket on place you'll have to probably wait about 15 minutes till the new slot is released, as this place is the most visited in the city. To buy tickets online its very difficult as the website doesn't work properly.

Fantastic place to visit. Not many people as Lucca feels like a place that hasn’t been discovered by tour guides. We paid to go up the Guinigi Tower and very glad we did. You have to be physically able to climb steep steps, and the top section is very narrow. If you have a larger waist it could be difficult. The views at the top were stunning, and the trees on top was a very unique thing to experience.

Tickets to the tower alone was 8 euros, I advise to go when it’s quiet as the top viewing area is cosy, which is nice but can get very crowded easily, I went and it was only a few people but then a huge group came, which I took as my que to leave. The core itself is super beautiful! Lovely spot to just get lost in your own thoughts

Definitely worth going to see the 360 degrees view over Lucca and its brick roofs against the mountains setting. There is no lift. €8 for adult entry.

Enchanting medieval skyscraper with a treetop terrace! Climbing its 230 steps is a treat—this 45 m 14th‑century red-brick tower ends in a charming rooftop garden crowned with ancient holm oaks. Built by the Guinigi family as a symbol of rebirth and power, it offers sweeping views over Lucca’s terracotta rooftops, its ringed walls, and the distant mountains. A refreshing climb with a peaceful oasis at the top – truly unforgettable! The tickets are cheap and you can just buy it there too

Great place, a decent climb and wonderful views. Note that the ticket office/entry and exit are on different sides of the building. Highly recommended.

This was my favorite part of Lucca! The view was incredible. The trees made it extra special. We were there on a Wednesday in May and it was not crowded. It would be a tight space with too many people.
