A peacefully place, only 10-15 minutes ferry journey. Be prepared to walk whole day through the history of conquering the island by many countries.

Beautiful island for a day trip in Xiamen, even better if stay overnight. No cars allowed on island, the only transportation are the 12 electric buggies.

A little island 20 mins ferry away from Xiamen. Popular with locals and tourists. As one of the first port opened for commercial trading in the past, the island is scattered with lots of buildings architecture of western influence. Almost every building carries its own story. I feel like i am in an entire different world while i am there. The only damper is the commercialised streets with local street vendors selling touristy items.

Very nice island close to Xiamen (30min ferry ride) with relaxed gardens, some historical international buildings from its trade linked past and a temple on the peak with some great views.

Must visit Sunlight Rock. When deciding where to go before coming to Xiamen, I tried not to visit Gulangyu. It would have been a really big mistake if I hadn't gone. The cleanliness without cars made me feel how different the place was. We need to consume less and own less. Greed is wanting to have what you need.

A popular place for the locals and tourist alike. The place was a foreign enclave in the past with their passion for piano music that give the island the nickname - Piano Island. The western influenced buildings that are the main attractions are not that many nor that classical western in style. A good place to see how the foreigners lived and tried to isolated themselves from the local in the past.
