A tranquil, historical retreat. This park is a beautiful green oasis right in the heart of Istanbul's historic Sultanahmet district, adjacent to Topkapı Palace. Once the outer imperial garden for Ottoman sultans, it was transformed into Istanbul's first modern public park in 1912, retaining the old plane and oak trees that offer great shade. It's an ideal place for a peaceful escape from the bustling city, with well-maintained paths perfect for a relaxing walk. You can find several key features inside, including the ancient Column of the Goths (the oldest Roman monument in the city) and the Museum of the History of Science and Technology in Islam. The park also holds significant history, as the famous Tanzimat Edict was proclaimed here in 1839. Recommended 👍🏼.

This is a really nice public park in the immediate west and north of Topkapi Palace. It is one of the largest and oldest urban parks in the city making use of the previous outer garden of the Palace which were transformed and opened to the public in 1912. What you find today is a walled in park with tall mature trees providing shaded walking and resting grounds lined with flowerbeds and park benches. There are statues, sculptures, museums, ancient cistern and other ruins, playground areas, a few cafes, public toilets and plenty of leisurely space to relax and enjoy some quite time after sightseeing at the Palace or other nearby attractions. The park is open throughout the day and evening and is free to enter.

Beautiful - a piece of paradise away from the tourist crowds. We really enjoyed simply walking through the park and enjoying the cool shade of the trees, and the relative peace. It was so refreshing to visit after the various nearby tourist sights. There is a small caffe inside with very nice ambient.

Gülhane Parkı is absolutely amazing! It’s so clean, peaceful, and beautifully maintained. The gardens are full of vibrant colors, and the walking paths make it perfect for a relaxing stroll. One of the most beautiful and refreshing spots in Istanbul to unwind and enjoy nature.

Beautiful park with clean paths, plenty of trees, and relaxing benches. Perfect for a peaceful walk or picnic with friends. Safe, quiet, and well-maintained — a great escape from the city noise.

This park is a safe space from a very hectic old town. A quiet, clean and well laid out relaxing area with plenty of tree shade, fountains, bird life. Some great history and the backdrop of the palace to top it off. It is also the best walk from the old town down to the river and the best cafe on the rivers edge.

I enjoyed walking through the park. It is very close to the most interesting sites in Istanbul and it is refreshing to visit it after visiting buildings and museums around. There is a small caffe inside with very nice ambient. But I think the park lacks a little variety as far as the the natural elements like flowers and trees are concerned. All in all worth visiting.

🌳 Gülhane Parkı is a peaceful oasis in the heart of Istanbul. Located right next to Topkapı Palace, this historic park offers beautifully maintained gardens, shaded walking paths, and stunning views of the Bosphorus. It’s ideal for a quiet stroll, a picnic, or simply taking a break from the city’s hustle. The atmosphere is serene, with a mix of locals and tourists enjoying the greenery. The park is clean, family-friendly, and features several cafes and benches. Springtime is especially magical when the tulips are in bloom. Highly recommended for nature lovers and anyone looking to relax while exploring the historic peninsula. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Yelp
Wow, what a stunning oasis. The park which translates "Rosehouse Park" is in the Eminönü district of Istambul. The park itself used to be a large walled garden of the adjacent Topaki Palace. The initial park opened in 1912 but has undergone extensive remodeling in the years since. The park is a vast open space and during our trip the tulips were in bloom. They do take the keep off the lawn seriously with park employees with whistles calling out any and all offenders big and small. The wall of the park are amazing as well. There are a few exhibits and at least one restaurant but we just walked through it and did not check anything else out.

Yelp
Our hotel was very close to this park so we were able to take a stroll after a visit to some mosques in the same neighborhood. Large park with some blooming tulips and a huge red Istanbul sign for tourists. Some quaint bridges and photo opps scattered throughout the park. Definitely worth a visit to just stroll through during daylight hours.

Yelp
Stunning park filled with fountains and flowers. It sit at the bottom of a hill that houses both the Istanbul Archeological Museum and the Topkapi Palace. Don't miss this park as it is welcoming and relaxing. Truly a treasure in Istanbul

Yelp
Maybe after having your breath taking away too many times by many magnificent landmarks like Ayasoyfa, you realize that you need to replenish your supply of breath. Fortunately, next to the Ayasoyfa and Topkapi Palace is the green gem of historic Istanbul - Gulhane Park! Formerly an extension of Topkapi Palace, Gulhane Park is the largest green space in the Sultanahmet area and is perhaps the Central Park of Istanbul. The first two courtyards of Topkapi Palace also have trees and grass, but Gulhane still have significantly more trees to make a truly green setting. While Gulhane is not as majestic as the parks in Vancouver or even as green as Central Park of New York, the walled park is nonetheless an excellent green refuge inside the bustling city, so if you ever need to find somewhere to take a breath instead of having your breath taken away, take a break and relax here at Gulhane.

Yelp
This was a nice surprise...an oasis in the urban jungle. Similar to other well-known parks in larger cities around the world, this one is clean and green and a nice way to escape the sensory overload of being in Istanbul. I sat in the park for a while just enjoying the nice clean air and it was difficult to leave...sometimes it's the simple things that can make you happy.

Yelp
Just behind the Topkapi Palace walls and close to the Archeological Museum, Gulhane Park is a wonderful place to relax in the shade and never seems to be overly crowded. It is also cool for bird watching. There are cranes making their nests here, seagulls, swallows, crows, and parrots! For some people that might be the norm, but to me having never seen parrots in the wild, it is pretty exciting. The park seems to cultivate the birds as actively as their rose beds as they have installed bird houses high up in several trees. We also saw a fire engine style truck with a guy in a basket tending to one of the nest areas one evening. Gulhane Park is a perfect place to put your feet up after a morning of walking the nearby sights.

Yelp
Nice park! Definitely visit and enjoy a nice walk. It is not very big. However it's nice and there are some art works around the park

Yelp
The high walls around the park act to block out the sound and the city writ large, giving the place a real oasis feel. Tucked in right behind the Topkapi Palace, the park has nice, long walking trails and open green spaces to sit and relax. The whole park is dotted with out of the way benches, most of which were occupied with 20-something couples engaged in rather bold public displays of affection. It was a bit like walking down lover's lane, only right in the shadow of two huge mosques. The park also has a decent playground which makes it a fantastic location for kids. After spending a couple of days sightseeing and walking around Sultanahmet, my three year old was in desperate need of some playground time.

Yelp
Gulhane Park is a great park! Perfect for a great stroll, the art, the adjacent museums, it's a great time! Huge with multiple paths and runs all around Topkapi Sarayi. Fortune tellers in the park can also add a little extra something to the trip, if the park isn't already delivering enough!
