Gun Hill, Mussoorie

Instead of taking the ropeway I actually walked. If you have lot of time in your hand, I also recommend walking from Mall road to upwards. You will find a lot of beautiful sights which you otherwise would've miss. If you love to explore the offbeat parts, beautiful architecture and prefer serenity and calmness over crowded place, you can walk. Though it's steep and can almost take 30-45 mins, still suggesting going for it.

This is a famous tourist place in the heart of Mall road of Mussoorie. To get the tickets you need to either walk or take a cycle rickshaw and ask them to drop you at Jula Ghar. Weekdays or weekend the place is crowded because it is a tourist place and you will have to force buy tickets and wait for your turn to get in the cable car 🚡. The cable car ride is a short 5to 6 minute rides which allows you to witness the sealing beauty of Mussoorie and Dehradun. It is advised to plan your visit around 4.00 - 4.30 Pm, especially during winters to witness the scenic winter line of Mussoorie. For coming back please direct mind that you will have to stand in a queue and sometimes the few can extend up to 60 minutes+. The tempratures can drastically fall after sunset so ensure you have ample warm clothes. There are many eateries, games for kids and shops from where you can click pictures in traditional attire.

Gun Hill is the second-highest peak in Mussoorie and a cornerstone of the local tourism experience. There are also souvenir shops selling handicrafts and trinkets, though visitors should be prepared for active solicitation from vendors. Early morning or sunset hours are recommended for the best lighting and photography conditions. Ropeway Details: The cable car generally operates from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, though hours may extend until 10:00 PM during peak summer months. Round-trip tickets typically cost between ₹100 and ₹220 depending on the season. Temples: There are two small temples located at the summit dedicated to Goddess Parvati and Shani Dev, adding a spiritual touch to the visit. Overall, Gun Hill is a must-visit for first-time travelers to Mussoorie who enjoy a vibrant atmosphere and stunning vistas.

This is a must visit place if you are in Mussoorie. The view is good throughout the hiking and from the top as well. There are lots of food stalls and activities to be done at the top. One should try the cable car if you are with kids as they would surely love it. There are some ways to reach the location. You can take cable car near mall road which gives both way tickets. Another way would be to walk the entire uphill journey. This may tire you a bit and can take some time. But you can enjoy the views you get while walking. One can also take a scooter to the top or take a car to a midway point and then walk the remaining path.

The rope way to GunHill is nice, gives a very good view of the entire Mussoorie city, Dehradoon city and The Valley. The view point up there is windy, cold and the sunset is nice but all covered with shops. You can sit in the shops and view it over a cup of pakoda or chai. There is a big open space in between where we flew our mini drone. Fun time!

Now there is NO gun here. It is said that In the days before independence, a gun was kept on top, they used it to fire bullet in the afternoon; with the help of this gun shot people used to adjust their watches. In fact, the top of hill is occupied by vendors selling soveniers, street food, magic show etc. You will have to find a place to look the mountains scenary. As soon as you get down from Trolly, vendors will surround you pestering to buy their services. Trolly ticket is ₹220 for both sides. Or you can walk for about 500 meters uphill.

Don't miss this place when you are Mussorie!! The view from the top Is breathtaking 🙌 But the Ropeway to Gunhill is not worth. It costed 220/person. And the classes inside the cabin was old and can't see anything outside. Better walk, its just 550mtr from Mall road/ near to the ropeway.
