Entry price was a bit rough, but it makes a bit more sense when you realise it’s there to contribute to conservation efforts of the island. Really enjoyed the technologically innovative ways they conveyed the conditions/landscape etc of the Island, with a motion sensor to pet the island mascot, computer displays, VR, video game controllers, immersive wide screens to simulate the mining experience (like a motion simulator without motion…but you could almost feel it), a 5 screen floor/ceiling presentation with a 3D renderings of a girl to narrate the average day in Gunkanjima. Not a fan of the use of AI to generate videos.
There’s even a previous resident that gives talks, although this is in Japanese so I couldn’t quite understand. Still cool.
At risk of sounding coldhearted, I still don’t 100% understand why it’s a world heritage site, but it’s a great immersive museum with innovative techniques used to present information and interact without having the physically visit the island
