Gunpowder Goa — Detailed Veg Review 🌿✨ Gunpowder is a well-known heritage restaurant in Assagao, North Goa. It’s set in a charming old Portuguese bungalow surrounded by a lush green garden and cozy courtyard seating — perfect for a peaceful lunch or dinner plan. 📍 Location: It’s located in Assagao, one of the prettiest and calmest areas in North Goa — with beautiful houses, art shops, and other cafes around. 🍽️ Food (Veg): Gunpowder’s menu focuses on authentic South Indian regional food, with classic dishes from Kerala, Andhra, Tamil Nadu, and coastal areas. The flavours are homestyle, simple, and traditional — not heavy or over-spiced. Recommended Veg Dishes: ✔️ Mushroom Pepper Fry — Lightly spiced starter. ✔️ Vegetable Stew with Appams — Mild coconut-based stew that pairs perfectly with soft appams. ✔️ Pumpkin Curry — Subtle sweetness, goes well with rice or appams. ✔️ Bhindi Curry — Okra cooked in South Indian masala. ✔️ Gunpowder Potatoes — Dry, flavourful potato fry — great side dish. ✔️ Rasam & Rice — Classic comfort combo. ✔️ Coconut Rice or Lemon Rice — Fresh, flavourful rice options. ✔️ Filter Coffee — South Indian-style, strong and aromatic. 💰 Price Range: Veg mains are around ₹300–₹500 per dish, appams about ₹50–₹80 each, rice ₹200–₹300, and beverages/cocktails ₹300–₹500 each. A meal for two vegetarian diners usually comes to ₹1500–₹2000, depending on drinks. 🍃 Vibe: The main highlight here is the atmosphere — open-air courtyard, lots of greenery, relaxed music, and heritage Goan architecture. It’s an excellent place for long conversations and slow meals. 👍 Service: Staff is polite and attentive, service is relaxed and matches the easy pace of Goa. ✅ Overall: Gunpowder is a great option if you want to try authentic South Indian vegetarian food in a beautiful old bungalow setting. The place is calm, charming and perfect for soaking in Goa’s laid-back vibe. Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5) A lovely spot for a relaxed meal with good veg options and heritage charm.

Ordered items as follows: Curd Rice Meen Varuthathu (Kingfish) Kerala Mutton Curry Malabar Parotta Soondal Appam Sambar Lemon Rice Chutney (Coriander) South Indian Filter Coffee My first impression: A place worth visiting for an amazing South Indian cuisine experience. From the ambience to the hospitality, the staff took care of everything. The environment felt a bit humid, which can be improved, but this is subjective. The quality of food was amazing and fresh, as the food was served hot and tasted as good as it looked. The preparation of the drinks was as good as the food. A must-visit place for some amazing non-veg and veg South Indian cuisine options. The mutton was flavored with spices and was marinated well enough to melt in your mouth. A family restaurant with good food and service.

Found a recommendation online for Gunpowder and it did not disappoint! The staff invited us in even though they weren’t open yet. The beers were delicious and the cocktails are worth trying a few…highly recommend the Tamarind Spicy Margarita. The portions are good size and so so tasty. Honestly the food was so delicious I will be coming back as soon as I can. Can’t recommend it enough and the staff are so friendly and took time to explain the menu to us.

We had food at Gunpowder restaurant in Goa, and it was absolutely delicious! Unlike some other places where the menu is filled with too many confusing or mismatched versions, this restaurant clearly stands out. The owners have put a lot of thoughtful research into curating an authentic Indian menu. They’ve carefully selected some of the best traditional recipes from different states across India and brought them together in one place — and the taste truly speaks for itself. The ambience is warm and inviting, and the service is excellent. Overall, we were completely satisfied. This is a must-visit spot in Goa — highly recommended for anyone who loves real Indian flavors done right.. from HYDERABAD.
