The Unpretentious, Exhilarating Charms of New Hampshire Skiing

"Gunstock, a mountain about four miles outside Gilford, New Hampshire, was our home base for skiing. It is known for its long-standing ski culture, where staff and lift operators have worked for decades, preserving the essence of skiing without succumbing to modern reinventions."

The ropes course through the trees was amazing! They gave us proper training before hitting the real course. Our guide was Makayla and she was so friendly and nice to talk to! So many fun obstacles, and it was a great workout! The mountain coaster however I would say was quite a let down. I’d been on one other mountain coaster before and it actually went down the entire mountain. This one was basically a kiddie coaster that just kind of did a loop through some trees. Would be a great ride for kids, as an adult however it was not worth the $30 unlimited rides add-on, as we only did it once and weren’t even interested enough to go back on it a second time to get our money’s worth. The food and live music was great! I got a chickpea bowl and it was delicious and protein packed!

Google
We stayed on the campgrounds, but we were able to visit the resort as well. Everything is beautiful, serene, and CLEAN! There are so many options of activities and events to do and visit while here. The staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The entire experience has been wonderful!

The mountain coaster is a great time. We did the unlimited rides and it comes with a free life ride included. So much fun. In one hour and fifteen minutes we did a 30min life ride and six mountain coaster rides. That was a real treat

Google
I love gunstock it’s a great mountain I’ve had a season pass here for 2 seasons. Great view, and they keep the lodge and bathrooms clean. I also love their waffle cabin, great end of the day reward. I will say it can be a pain to get to one lift from the next if ur not directly coming from a run. Also, get there early because parking fills up and they have STUPID parking rules. it’s also not a very large mountain so it can get repetitive if you’re an advanced skier, but overall it’s fun if you’re going to have a few drinks and have a good time with friends and family.

Really loved coming here!! I was here from 12-7:30pm. I really liked the trails, and I felt like this was really worth my money. The blacks were good as well. I tried out the terrain park and that also did not disappoint! People here are all really nice. Convenient from Boston as well. I would definitely come back here. The lodge was pretty crowded in the afternoon so i wasn’t able to eat until the evening. Fries are decently priced and they give a big portion. Ski shop was also very big with a lot of options for clothes and ski/snowboard gear.

We had an amazing experience ziplining at Gunstock in the fall! The views were absolutely breathtaking with all the fall colors in full bloom — flying over the vibrant foliage was surreal. The staff was super friendly and made us feel safe and comfortable the whole time. The ziplines were long, fast, and so much fun — such a thrill! It’s a perfect adventure for anyone visiting New Hampshire in autumn. Highly recommend for nature lovers and adrenaline seekers!

We did the unlimited Mountain Coaster & Lift. It was perfect for our family to stay busy. Summer fun! Lines were short and the staff was friendly and polite.

We went to the Nordic center to introduce my wife to x-country skiing, the staff were very helpful setting her up in proper equipment and the trail system was a good start for beginners. The maps and signage were accurate and it is a perfect place to go on a snowy day. Weekend tickets were really affordable.

Yelp
Bonus points for being one of the last ski resorts still open at the end of March in New England! We came all the way from Hawaii for spring break and my son wanted to ski, this was exactly what we needed! Great for all levels, there's a magic carpet and one lift on the right side for beginners, and a terrain park for snowboarders on the left. There's a free bag check or pay lockers to store stuff. They have a decent store if you forgot to bring stuff. Ski rental is across boot The restaurant inside "Barrel & Bar" was REALLY GOOD, the smash burger with the barrel sauce was amazing and the brussel sprouts with bacon was also perfect. I wish I had their recipe for the barrel sauce because I could drink that stuff. Look on their website for hotel partners, we were able to get 25% off lift ticket coupons from our hotel on that list.

Yelp
All around staff was very helpful for a first time snowboarder. The only reason it didn't get five stars, it's because this was our first time even seeing snow let alone being in a snowboarding range; and we were so confused as to where to go and what to do. There were a few signs on the buildings, but we were still very unclear as to what we had to do first or where we were even going. It took us a solid 25 minutes to figure out what to do. Once we got our bearings, we finally felt the organization. But my recommendation would be to have numbered signs on what you have to do first second third and so on

Yelp
We took the panorama chairlift to the top of the mountain. The tickets were only $20 per person and the view was well worth it.

Yelp
Awesome mountain for fun, learning and great memories. The staff is exceptional, the mountain crew always makes sure there is snow and the facilities are great. Gunstock is the closest ski mountain to Boston and there is plenty of inexpensive housing locally. Especially look at the Sleeps over 20 Airbnb in nearby Belmont NH. Lots of hotels also. Gunstock has plenty of parking and the walk is never to far. The food is generally better on the mountain than the nearby restaurants. If possible make reservations in advance.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised on my first visit to Gunstock. I have skied in New England when I was a kid but more recently, since I live in Houston, Texas, we ski in Colorado and Utah. Gunstock really has their shit together. We pulled in and there were people directing us to the parking lot. I didn't have to find a place myself, or guess where to go. We walked to the ticket line and we got a RFID card. They put in our Lift tickets, ski rentals, and senior discount. (Yikes!) The lifts are all right near the central Lodge. Lift lines were not long. The people helping us with our rental equipment were all super helpful and very efficient. The conditions were great. People in the lift lines were helping organize who goes next, so there was no worry about that. Really nicely groomed trails and nice lodges. Everything is purpose built: one lodge at the top is just for snacks and beer. One lodge at the bottom is just for food. Everything is so well organized. Love this place and pleasantly impressed.

Yelp
Our group of four in two separate RVs camped for 10 days during the June '24 Laconia bike week. We found that the campground restrictions were somewhat confusing and overly strict in some cases. While the campground itself is beautiful and well-maintained for the most part, some of the employees seem to be, less receptive for motorcycle visitors. The hill-climb day rules made our visit somewhat confusing as to what we could and/or could not do during that event.

Yelp
We were tubing here. We had been in several years. They have shortened the tubing runs. They were still fun though. It was fast. They added carpeting at the end of the run to help which was good. They added a magic carpet. We were a little disappointed there was no fire outside. In the past, they had fires going outside during the cold days. We were able to warm up in between runs in the lodge. We also got an excellent hot chocolate before we left. We had to park further away than normal. But it was a busy ski day. Overall was a good experience, the staff was kind. We had a fun day.

Yelp
In short: 1. Some of the most monumental views of any ski resort, ever. 2. The 2022 crisis that led to the staff resignation, a shakeup on county government, and replacement of the resort board, is over. It is now, hands down, one of the best run mountain resorts in the East. 3. Amazing staff. 4. Well taken care of ski runs and excellent grooming Now for the narrative: Gunstock is a Belknap County owned property that provides four-season recreation for its residents and the general public. Several years ago, ultra-libertarians, upset with the concept of a government-run recreation facility, slowly took over its managing board, began dismembering it, and proposed its sale or lease to a private for-profit enterprise. Its management resigned, and it resulted in a state-wide backlash, the replacement of its board, the rehiring of its old staff, and Gunstock survived and came back even better. They deserve the respect and the business of everyone. The resort is nestled on the southwest side of Lake Winnepesaukee and enjoys jaw-dropping views of the lake and the White Mountains. Truly it is one of the most beautiful views in the East. The slopes face the north, receiving less sun and as a result, the snow keeps there longer. From the top, numerous trails of all proficiency levels are reachable. The main four-pack high speed lift, Panorama, has a vertical of 1400 feet, ample enough for a variety of trails. Three more lifts provide access to race trails and terrain park, while two magic carpets and a slower quad provide terrain for beginners. Gunstock's infrastructure is superb. The old historic lodge complex is both charming and efficient. Two sit-down restaurants, one rustic and cozy, the Powder Keg Pub, and one upscale and modern, the Barrel Bar and Grill. The former one is old-time casual, the latter is more upscale. In addition, the Panorama Pub and Deck has liquor, chocolate, coffee, and snacks but no food. Gunstock is a wonderful mountain.

Yelp
Good for newbies. I am relatively new to snowboarding and found that a section of greens here is very good for learning. I went during midweek when the winter season is over so there would be less people to wipe out or wipe me out. As a newbie, you never want to be a danger to people around you nor yourself. The bunny slopes are not even worth learning here. It is almost flat and it is too short of distance to learn. I'd recommend learning in the greens to the right-most side of the mountain (when looking at the trail map). Rentals + lift tickets are expensive. I spent over $150 for an entire day here (9AM-4PM). End of the season was warm and all the man-made snow was beginning to slush and there are some ice patches. Overall, from a newbie perspective, this is a good spot to learn at end of the season on a weekday. Also expect to fall a lot but it's not that bad at the greens. Coming off the lifts is probably the most challenging for us newbies than snowboarding itself.

Yelp
Went to the summer adventure park. Highly recommend the mountain coaster so much fun. Chairlift ride was a nice way to explore the mountain. Beautiful view on the lift back. My son like the tree rope course he did 4 out of the 5 courses. He said they were a bit harder than he was expecting. Had nachos where good could have used more cheese, got chicken on them which was good. Potstickers were good. Cherry Valley and Tiger Crush were both very good. All staff was friendly.

Yelp
As an employee the parking attendants here are the worst people I've ever interacted with. There is no need for them when there are painted parking spots, they treat you like children & not paying customers. I'm in disbelief over numerous encounters I've had with them over the years & it only seems to get worse & more aggressive every year. The resort needs to listen to feedback that numerous customers deliver them yearly about parking lot attendants being agro & incredibly rude.

Arlyn E.

Yelp
Everything went well. I would've given it 5 stars had it not for one thing - the women's restroom in Barrel Bar and Grill is not properly maintained at all the entire time we were here. Otherwise, were were pleasantly surprised.

Joseph D.

Yelp
Nice for all levels. Good for trips and groups regardless of level. They have a bit of everything. From a nice beginner area to thrilling advanced blacks, it's for everyone. Just a heads up, they are cashless now.

Ice mountain, one trail did not have ice(early season Christmas break). .

Yelp
Cute ski mountain. Lots of terrain in the peak season, gets crazy busy because of how far south it is but has stunning views of the lake, free storage in the base lodge, decent parking, and well groomed. Some glades and good park features. Lifts service different levels and helps keep trains from getting too busy.

Yelp
Most of the bad reviews for Gunstock Mountain Resort are in reference to short staffing and the 2022 closure in the middle of July because the management staff resigned. I was there for the Bronco Off-Roadeo event. It was very well coordinated and staffed. Gunstock Mountain and its trails are beautiful! It appears well kept despite its current predicament. I would return!

Yelp
This mountain is great. Good trails, great terrain park, awesome staff and beautiful views. The shop is great. They have tons of great gear at very reasonable prices. Jim, Myles and the rest of the staff have amazing customer service and are very knowledgable. They just revamped the tune and repair shop too.

Yelp
Today I came up very close to closing time and the guys running the chair where very kind and allowed us to jump on the lift right at closing time. One of the operators was Walter. We are visiting from California and we just really want to share our gratitude for the guys allowing us to take a ride at closing time. It's great when you come across kind and friendly employees like Walter and the other man running the lift today.. Thank you again!

Yelp
This mountain experience has been the worst of my life. Being a skier for some 30+ years but this was the first time at Gunstock, Gilford NH. What a negative experience. This all began at the ticket office. Now living in Gilford I was told we get a discount ticket for residence. But how does one prove residence when you first move here? Well, you can't as far as the ticket office is concerned. When I went into the office on Monday, I was able to purchase discount ticket for my granddaughter but not my son because his license in not changed yet his birthday is in April and needs to be renewed. So he has not changed it as of yet. But now when i tried to renew the tickets on Wednesday I was told by Caroline (the acting ticket manager as she said) I need proof for my 13-year-old granddaughter. When I asked her how I would get proof. She was already in the system. She insisted that I needed to have her dad call the office and verify with the school her address. I was outraged so I just told her I will pay full price just let me pay for the tickets, it had been well over 15-20 minutes just waiting for her to come see me and not get this resolved. Now understanding that there is protocol, but this is a bit out of hand. Being a disabled senior and unable to ski this year made this event even more frustrating. To be able to see my son and his daughter to the sport I love so much is a blessing to me, but this event has given me a very negative experience. So if you want to ski and enjoy your vacations and time with your grandchildren go to another mountain. Like maybe Waterville Valley or even Mount Sunapee both here in NH. They are amazing experiences, and you don't have to deal with this bureaucracy.

John L.

Yelp
It is the best during the winter with the skiing and fun during summer with the mountain coaster and rope courses

James J.

Yelp
Customer service is abhorrent. It's bad everywhere but Alana at the camp store has reached a new low. Our campsite doesn't have septic. The campground has a place to dump but the requires you to break down everything and drive over to it. Decent campgrounds have a honeypot service so you can dump from your site. My wife inquired about this at the store and found they were clueless. When she suggested this may be a good thing to have, Alana came storming out of her office to argue. It was awful. I doubt anyone at Gunstock will even care how rude and combative this employee was. My wife even called to apologize for her part in all of this but Alana was on another call. She never heard back. Apparently, Alana is just right and that is all there is to it. I'm floored.

Yelp
Easy access from Laconia and parking lots directly adjacent to the base lifts. Excellent beginner area with beginner lift and ski carpet. Tubing is available for those that don't ski. Many steeps with mostly blues and blacks. One high speed quad sends skiers directly to the top peak but lines can get long even during reservation only access like this season. Food trucks available in the parking lot along with takeout from the lodge. Can be icy by days end but lots of snowcats and snowmaking equipment give each day a fresh set of corduroy to enjoy.

Yelp
**The following review is based on the Nighttime summer hike** The Gunstock websites advertised an adventurous hike that starts at 7pm that includes smores for $10. WHAT IS GUNCTOCKS IDEA OF ADVENTUROUS? It was more like intermediate to advanced hiking up the mountain in 90 degree heat. But let's back up. The website did not make it clear tickets had to be reserved. We were at the Welcome Center as the website asked early (6:35pm)... luckily! Because an employee noticed us and came up to us. After a small discussion, and telling us it wasn't a good day for a hike (sunny?) and no one was signed up he told us the hike was cancelled. After seeing our disappointment and hearing we drove in form RI he decided he would take us- super nice (he had already turned away another hiker which he retrieved from the parking lot.) As we trekked out we realized WHAT DID WE GET OURSELVES INTO? My boyfriend and I are not avid hikers and aren't in hiking body shape. Our guide was nice enough to stop when we needed to catch our breath because the climb up was challenging to say the least. (footnote; he said we would take it easy today because of the heat.) We were told we were done with the uphill climb and three uphill climbs later my boyfriend couldn't stop himself from calling out the guide on his bull and telling him he appreciates honesty! (I cannot tell you the amount of times this guy lied on the hike- even the other woman who he cancelled on called him out on this as well.) He then proceeded to tell us it was perfect hiking weather? (Are you kidding me?!) Plus how bout not telling your hikers about the bears while on foot near blueberries?! I can tell you this... our $10 did not get us any smores. It was a 2 hr hike not 1.5 as advertised and most importantly the walk down is off a gravel/dirt road which was treacherous. My boyfriends shirt was drenched in sweat! We are now lucky to be alive. So please consider this review if you choose the hike. The Pro's: The view from the top
google avatar

Deidred A.

Yelp
The view is absolutely stunning. Lake Winnepesake is stunning from the top of Gunstock. Breathtaking. What's not good? It's old, grooming is mixed, and there's only one medium speed quad to the top of the lift. If you are okay with waiting the view!
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
Great family mountain, not the largest but they have some great trails. The conditions were good and they continually are making snow. The views are great, you can see lake Winnipesaukee as well as MT Washington. Overall, nice ski area in southern NH.

Yelp
I'm going to be honest, I almost gave this place 3 stars because of a little experience that had to do with the Alpine Coaster, which I will explain. Anyhoo, my boyfriend's family and I stopped here on a summer Sunday after we figured it was too windy to go out boating on Lake Winnipesaukee and that enjoying the mountains would be a good alternative. We were planning to go on the Alpine Coaster and then take the lift up the top of the mountain for a nice view. I have never been to New Hampshire and was really excited to experience the mountains in the summer being whatever we ended up doing. We bought tickets for the Alpine Coaster and the Lift at the counter and read the rules before heading out to begin our fun. NOTICE TO SUMMER VISITORS: you cannot wear open toe shoes on the Alpine Coaster. This is not disclosed at the ticket counter. We only found out when we boarded the car and the operator had to tell us to get off. This was after we rented a locker to store our loose belongings. I will say though, that the staff was very cooperative in providing the refund for this. If I had a recommendation for the business, it would be to have the ticket counter ask if closed toe shoes are being worn. Save the drama and frustration please! The lift was great. Amazing views and a nice long ride up to the top of the mountain. You can hang out for a bit and take plenty of pictures. Unfortunately the pub is not open in the summer. I really loved just looking out over the lake and taking in the scenery. Lift cost was $14 which seems reasonable to me. If I knew how to ski, I think this would be a nice place to do so. Not too crazy and not too crowded.

Yelp
We had made reservations to stay at the campground associated with the ski mountain. We had never stayed there before and was bringing a 30 foot travel trailer. Our reservations were for Saturday and Sunday night with plans to go to a concert at the Pavilion. On Thursday we received a message directly from campground the that reservations would be cancelled and the "facility" would be closed. I attempted to call the campground three times with no answer. The fourth time I left a message requesting somebody call me. In the meantime, we were lucky and found another campground that would take us for the weekend. This was after calling six other campgrounds. Only after sending an email did I get a response and they rebated some of our deposit - not sure why only some. After they responded to the email I received a call -- too little too late. Later discovered the campground was open and the "facility" meant recreational rides on the same site. So, why wouldn't they clarify that in the email and have staff available to take calls after sending a message out that states "gee sorry" go somewhere else? For those of us who have never stayed there, how would we know what the message really meant? In the new campground where we stayed there was another couple who thought the same thing and had a near identical experience. Very poor communication and service.

Yelp
Went to the food truck event today, waited over 2.5 hours for food. Totally unorganized, every truck had an incredibly long wait.

Yelp
This is a great mountain. And could not have been better. Let me count the ways. Pros: 1. No rangers or ski patrol to slow you down. In a day of skiing I only saw two ski patrol guys. These two were helping a guy who ran into a tree, coming off a minor lift. How cool is that? Someone else thought he broke his pelvis, but I could not see. 2. Lots of Ice to help you learn how to ski on 'variable conditions' People who say that the snow conditions are up to Mother Nature are correct. The resort has no control of how often they groom (I ran across some corduroy at 3 pm from what must have been a groomer running up the mountain, made a world of difference), when they run their snow guns, where and how often to stash snow, when to close a run, when to open a run, how many to let onto the mountain, etc. Allll up to Mother Nature my boy. All up to nature. also the icy patches help you exercise your core, where you go "Whoops!". (or, whoop, whoop, or crash, see three examples in this review.) I've skied in the east and did not understand quite why it was known as being icy. I was completely humbled and reeducated by this experience. And, somehow, my knees hit the ice too, and they remember. 3. beginner lift that really separates the nubs from the beginners, or at least the beginners from their skis. At the top of the beginner lift there is a let off ramp that as you get off feels like it puts your skis nearly against your chest and then drops at a great pitch down. What a thrill, even for me. This does lead to great conversations at the bottom while you wonder why the lift stops so often. When you get there, you know. 4. Marketing guy does not waste time. I saw a marketing guy filming a marketing video ("Great day here at Gunstock on Smith run. Great snow conditions....yadda yadda"). I asked if he could chat and he just skied away. Must have wanted to get it posted. Contrast this with Zander at Ragged who will talk your ear off helping you with tips and answering the phone when you call for help. I also thought it might be worth correcting the marketing guy about the conditions, but maybe "well groomed" means "variable with patches of ice" at Gunstock. Remember, runs are rated only with respect to other runs at this resort, and presumably grooming status as well. By the way, we are always representing. I had a great conversation with a race official, and with a ski team coach, and in both cases, I liked them and their organisations. I also met a principal that sounded like a principal, and middle school teacher who sounded like a teacher. 5. They want to know who you are and hold personal information like birthday, cell phone and email. This gives you a chance to think more about how they will protect that information. All they really need is not year of birth, not age even, but "are you eligible for that ticket at that day". But noooo, they are more helpful. perhaps to a fault. This is what started the tone for the day, the night before. 6. Food truck closes early so you are encouraged to eat where you really want, which is Beefside! 7. The maps are slightly off. There is a run that exists, obscured by another run's name, and there is a lift that does not quite drop off where it is shown. This gives you a chance to learn! 8. You can't waste time asking questions on their phone, because they do not pick up. Leave a message and we will call you back. 9. This mountain responds well to those with well tuned skis. If you ever thought you wasted money getting your skis tuned, this mountain rewards those with edges. 10. Runs were closed on the ground that were open on the web site. I had to check with a lift operator if they were runs open enough to get down. He was able to check (why should he know, he's at the bottom of the runs!). Cons 1. Some of the folks on the lifts will talk with you, and distract you with great conversations. 2. Lift ticket pick up was too easy. Where to pick up, now, that is another question. I also got to meet a lot of busy and very important people while parking and getting my ticket, and to learn to relax while sitting in my car boxed in, while in the 5 min. zone. 3. the high speed lift moves too fast. 4. Support for Insane Clown Posse (ICP) and Juggalos. A different marketing person asked in an online video for a Whoop Whoop. Whoop Whoop to you to. Who doesn't shred to ICP? 5. the map folds in a way that you can see the trail map fairly clearly without having to open the whole map. This seems like a happy accident, but may be on purpose. I actually like this. 6. They give younger seniors discounts. the card readers work fairly well.

Yelp
Oh Gunstock, how I wish I could love thee. I guess we will lead with the good. For a small mountain, you have big Mountain View's of the lake and the Ski Club seems to be a really good spot for kids. Now with the real, you are not a big enough mountain to charge $96 for a lift ticket. That's only $34 less than Killington. Realistically you should charge $60-80 peak and yea I know you may think I'm splitting hairs but this isn't even the bad. The bad and the thing that really irks me is just how mismanaged you are at capacity. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that maybe this only occurs during busy season but if you show up here morning of a holiday weekend without a ticket you will wait in line hours. Not an exaggeration. And I'd say save yourself the time and buy online but they STILL require you to go and wait for an RFID card. Sorry Gunstock, look you have some charm and I could see myself being a kid here and having a great time but you need to control the controllable. While you can't control your size you could dial the prices back a smidge and improve your ticketing process.

Yelp
2 Hours from Boston and can't complain for a day trip on the slopes. Fun little mountain, although some of the main blue trails were closed due to races the day I was there. I do NOT like the new RFID card lift ticket system in place, it seems to slow the lines up considerably, especially on the Panorama Quad that goes to the summit. Some other skiiers I talked to said it stinks for kids too, because they are too short to have their cards read in their pockets. 3 stars for the mountain. There was also a lift operator that looked like Tom Brady, just saying. 5 stars for the Powderkeg restaurant on the 3rd floor of the lodge!! I don't think this was open last time I came.. but A+ for yummy burgers, a nice craft beer selection, friendly staff and some great live music. Overall, good mountain for a day trip.

Yelp
I like this mountain. Good terrain, a decent NASTAR course, and enough lifts to manage the crowds. We spent some time in the terrain park, and enjoyed the variety of jumps. It was well-maintained. The lodge is good, too. Big enough for the daily crowd.

Yelp
I haven't been to Gunstock in years. Over the weekend we took our four kids there for group lessons. From booking their lessons over the phone to checking in for tickets/rentals, everything went smoothly. The staff & instructors were all so nice and welcoming. For anyone taking lessons and/or using rentals, it can get busy so it's helpful to arrive at least one hour before your scheduled lesson. Our lessons were for 10 but we arrived at 8:30 and the kids were skiing in the beginner's area by 9:15 while waiting for their lesson to start. The rates are very reasonable and I really liked that the whole day lower mountain lift ticket was included so they could keep skiing after their lesson. We really enjoyed our visit.

Yelp
This was a good mountain! Went skiing and tubing for my 1st time here...not much to compare it too, but overall had a great time. There is a place to get gear however I would not recommend as this is very expensive and you can get the same quality merchandise at target, ect. The food here is okay, they do have great hot chocolate!! The instructors were very helpful as well.

Yelp
Got there at 10:30, were told the Alpine Coaster wasn't open yet. It didn't open until after 1:00. Not much else to do without paying extra (how many times can you ride a scenic chairlift?{ so we were stuck waiting. Apparently this is not an unusual occurrence. Won't be back.

Yelp
Zipline Review If I can zip, so can you! The short of it - I'm a chicken when it comes to heights and speed. And I was nervous as I got higher and looked down to where I was headed. But the fear passed as I sent my body hurtling past the trees, and I did not fall plop to the ground. Their zip line season 2014 ended on November 1st, and we made plans to get out there while the autumn leaves were still a sight, a few weeks prior. As recommended, we aimed to arrive a half hour before our scheduled tour. We signed away our lives (completed a Zip Tour Liability Release), paid up for our tours (normally $79, but we got a discount through one of those deal vouchers), decided to rent a GoPro for $35, dropped off our backpacks in the car (instead of making use of their available bag check), ran out to Gunstock's Mountainside Outfitters store to rent the GoPro which we were taught to attach to any of our helmets, and returned to get outfitted with the proper straps and their special backpack to carry our gear (which has a small zippered pocket for limited personal items you may wish to tuck in). From each location, we were then directed to the next point of our travels where we were met by another staffer. With virtually no lines (and thus no wait), our tour ended up taking but an hour and 15 minutes for our little group of six, beginning with the short walk over to the Demo Zip of 45 feet where we were familiarized with the equipment that we were strapped onto and that our lives would depend on, till the last member flew in over the pond at the final 5th zip. A conveyor belt ride away from the little Demo Zip was the 2nd 450 feet Training Zip, then onward to the Panorama ski lift for a ~14 minute ride up the mountain for our first of the 3 mountain ziplines - the 273 foot long Summit Zip. Though shorter than the 2nd zipline, the steeper incline and the surrounding trees brought out my anxiety. The gal manning the station was understanding yet comforting, however, as she pointed out that this was her means to commute back down on a daily basis. And this turned out to be the baby of the 3! The 4th Recoil Zip, longest at 3,981 feet long, yet minimal walk away, required a seemingly long walk up a spiral metal staircase due to my fear of heights. The final 5th 3,804 foot long Pistol Zip was a slightly longer hike and a somewhat shorter spiral trip up. These two were longer rides past the trees, with the last finishing with a ride over the parking lot and over the small pond. Each flight path was safely and completely devoid of branches, and were set as a pair of lines so you and a buddy can head off in unison. I didn't know till I was back on solid ground and infront of my computer that Gunstock lays claim to the longest ziplines on the continental United States. Although theirs is the first I've ever been on, I do say I believe it! Wear good shoes tied on tight, spread on the sunblock, and visit the little boys/girls room before starting off on your tour. Sunglasses and water I had brought but did not end up using. I took some photos here and there, but during the ride my camera was safely tucked inside my jacket's zippered pocket - they don't allow cameras to be used while you are on the actual ride, except for the GoPro. It isn't just because they want to make money off you though, as you will need both hands to grip the control - pull down to go, lift up to slow down/stop. They have a rather good FAQ at http://www.gunstock.com/upload/photos/219FAQ_Sheet__Zip_Tour_.pdf After our tour, we headed off on a few of their hiking paths to take advantage of our time up on the mountain. We definitely had a great time on our visit to Gunstock Mountain! I'm so glad I had opted for my hiking boots instead of my sneakers.

Yelp
My in-laws took my wife and children (1 and 4) on the sleigh ride last weekend, everyone had a great time! Larry the driver was polite and friendly, I hope they keep this service around. The previous visit we did snow tubing and the mountain coaster, also 5 stars. Gunstock is now competing for #1 destination in NH in my 4 year old's eyes.

Yelp
We took our teenage girls to the mountain coaster and they took the chairlift to the top for a scenic tour afterwards. One of the girls dropped her iPhone at the top of the chairlift and we thought it was lost in a treacherous area but the team including Colleen Landry, Peter the mechanic, kevin & skip who were managing the bottom & top lifts all stepped up and located it for us and stayed in touch through the entire search. They went the extra mile and tracked it down for us without hesitation. Talk about an amazing customer experience! We picked it up from the welcome center the next morning and my daughter wrote them a thank you card to show her appreciation. This experience just reinforces how Gunstock hires great employees who care about their guests. We will be back for fun summer activities over and over again. Thank you, Gunstock!! You saved the day.

Yelp
Had such an awesome time at Gunstock recently. Trails were awesome, lots of blues, went on a weekday and no crowds meaning very short wait times in chairlift lines. Also it took very little time getting our lift ticket passes. They are reusable cards that look like a CC. Great idea! My daughter needed new ski pants and their ski shop was well stocked. The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. Thx so much to Jaime for her much needed help. She was awesome. I also asked one of the staff I caught outside upon our arrival, asking him about the trails and where someone who was hitting the slopes for the first time this season and at Gunstock. He was very friendly and helpful, I wish I had gotten his name. Highly recommend Gunstock Ski Resort.

Yelp
This is a great local mountain with night skiing. Was here on a Friday night after work by myself. Was well groomed at 8 pm. No crud just smooth sailing for a crazy ski bum like myself to enjoy.

Yelp
Worst experience of my life. I would rather spend a week sleeping on a bed of nails than endure this torture again. None of the employees have any clue what's going on and it's just an all around shit show. I ordered rentals online and yet I still waited 2 hours in a line with people who haven't bought anything yet. Figure it the fuck out Gunstock.

Yelp
The thing about uphill hikes is that... they can be really quite hard if you're a "gimme more smores" kind of person. The sunset hike with Kale, of Gunstock Mountain resort, was an uphill hike, and quite hard. But well worth it. Not just because Kale brings smore-making supplies for the group, but also because the views were spectacular. Also we picked fresh blueberries just like the bears do. A shout out to our guide, Kale, who unlike his namesake leaf, was really quite nice and fun to be around. Highly recommend this fun evening activity.

Yelp
Excellent time! We had such a blast on the ziplines, mountain coaster, and the tree top corses. Definately need a few days to take advantage of all the activities that they offer.

Yelp
If you are going here please read this full review as there are some tips to save money and time. Let me start by saying this place is amazing and so worth the time and money. We went with our RV and the check in process and price was easy and very reasonable. The campsites are clean and the most family friendly place we have ever been. There are children riding their bikes, laughing and just have a fun time which is music to our ears. As far as camping or RV'ing their store isn't open all the time but if you need wood or ice after hours for a camp fire you can contact security after hours, but you must pay cash. During the day you can use a credit card. Their wood is $6.00 per bundle which is the same as Hannaford's, so you are better off buying it there. Very Clean bath houses but the showers are kind of small but always clean. I put my name on the list for a seasonal spot that's how awesome it is. So, let's talk about the Zip Lines and the Ropes Course. I would like to thank Sarah in the Segway tour office for all her advice and Scott the Admissions Manager who was extremely helpful! You want to book online and fill out your waivers online before you get there because it gets quite busy and guided tours sell out quick. We did ours the night before because we were staying there. If you stay there you will receive a 25% discount so you would need to call for them to apply the discount where if you go to Groupon it is a 19% discount. They open at 10 and closed at 6pm but if you do the ropes course they stop giving out harnesses at 4pm and the training alone could be 30 minutes. There are 5 courses and I must say they were cool. I only got through 3 of them but my kids did all 5. There is a lot to do here in 8 hours, so you need to coordinate your time(s). I will list down below how I would do it. HERE IS A SOMETHING YOU SHOULD KNOW! The Segway's sell out a lot quicker than zip lining because of the amount of Segway tours compared to availability of zip lining but if you purchase one of the extremes and there is availability on the other they will allow you to do it at no charge IF THERE ARE SPOTS AVAILABLE. So, book the Segway and you have a better chance of getting on the zipline - It's not guaranteed but the opportunity is there. Unfortunately, we went on a holiday and everything was sold out. They mountain coaster is pretty cool also along with all of their other inflatables. As far as the ziplining this could be intimidating but don't worry it is SO MUCH FUN! The views and the (2) almost 4,000-foot ziplines are incredible. You will have a total of 4 ziplines including the little training one. The views are breathtaking, and their team of guides are incredible. WE LOVED THIS!!! The only disappointment I really had there was the snack shack and $5.00 for a hot dog and it wasn't that good and that's a lot for a hot dog. So, if I was to do this again this is how I would plan my day: Book online first for the earliest Segway tour and monitor all the zip line tours for the free one and keep checking! Each tour is about 1 1/2 hours. Sign the waivers the night before online!!!! - Show up at 9:30 am and check in - hit the mountain coaster - then go take the training class for the ropes course (you can always go back and put the harness on and go on the course) - Go to your 11:00 am Segway tour - Come back keep checking on zip line availability (if you want to do it - you can do it the opposite way also but Segway's fill up real quick) - Hit the Ropes course - Then if you can't get on a zipline or Segway which then check out of their inflatables and bounce rides. The even have a family water balloon fight attraction which we ran out of time. Try and get these in in-between attractions. Overall MONEY WELL SPENT FOR A GREAT DAY besides the hot dog, you can bring a cooler of your own food which I highly recommend but they do have a restaurant there with a bar. I would also like to thank Jarred who helped my daughter through the spider course. Again, the staff at this place is simply amazing. I wouldn't spend 30 minutes typing this if it wasn't worth going LOL. I didn't have my phone for the amazing breathtaking photo at the top of the mountain but you will see what I am talking about! Thank you GUNSTOCK and all of your staff for an amazing holiday weekend of family fun!

Yelp
Hmmm... I'm not sure how I really feel about this mountain. I've been skiing for about 15 years. My Fiance has NEVER skied. We were up here on vacation this week and totally read all up on the ski packages for lessons. TOO BAD..when you get there you get totally bamboozled! It cost me $210.00 for two people to ski! That's just insane. Especially during a week day. They charge for the lesson, the rentals and than they tack on a charge for a lift ticket! I've never ever heard you have to buy an extra lift ticket for the bunny slope! My Fiance never left the bunny slope! The conditions were very icy and not groomed and we were there at 10:00 am. The reason I'm giving it 3 stars is the people that work in the lunch area were really nice and the food was actually super good. Otherwise I'd be giving it a two-star review!

Yelp
We came here mid- February Tuesday morning and dropped off my 3 yr old daughter at the Daycare. We opted for her 1 hr. Group lesson (we rented equipment elsewhere) with all day Daycare for $140 (9 am to 3 pm, lunch & snacks included), a tad steep in my opinion, but we didn't really have much option. The Daycare Center seems clean and secure. Unlike the other mountain we've been to, they don't allow parents go in the facility where the kids are. Once she was set, off we go skiing. Since we weren't blessed with good weather, there weren't many trails open, the ones that were open, the condition is a bit icy. I don't think they made snow for weekday skiers. Many of the Black Diamond trails were closed, which was a bummer, most of the trails are Blue, not many options if you are a beginner skier. I do love that instead of a lift ticket, you get a card that you keep anywhere on your body, they have these "gates" that scans you for you to enter the lift. Amazing technology... I wish more mountains convert to these. We got a glimpse of my daughter at the ski lesson. She was taken out around 10:30 am and an instructor stayed with her one on one. We didn't let her see us, but was super happy to see her in action! We ate at the bar in the main lodge, the food was actually really good! I had the fried chicken thigh sandwich and hubby had a bowl of chili came with tortilla chips. When we picked my daughter up from Daycare, they gave us a rundown of how she did. I also got to speak to her ski instructor a bit. She came out happy. she had a goody bag with her: A small bag of popcorn, heart candy, and they had made cookies for Valentine's Day. Even though she was mostly potty trained, I sent her in with her pull-ups to avoid accident. I later found out that she must've peed in her pull-up because they had changed her in a new one (so glad they had spares!). I'm very appreciative and would recommend the onsite Daycare to anyone. My review would've been 4-stars if it wasn't for our not so great experience at the tubing park. I do have to preface that our experience was solely on our one encounter with a young employee, the actual tubing park was fun. So here it goes: We were here on a Wednesday night for the 4-6 pm session, came at 4:30, but I guess since they sold tix in sessions, unless you wait for the next 2 hr session, you are at loss if you are late. The setup is pretty basic, you walk up to where they have tubing, grab one of the tubes that are piled up on the side and off you go for them to hook you up and pull you to the top. Typically they can use a connector to link 2 tubes together if you have a small child, but since it was pretty icy this night, it's not an option. They have 6 lanes and send people down together, it's well organized. You can build quite a bit of speed down the hill and we were nervous about sending our 3 yr old down by herself in a big tube... But here we go! She was obviously too small for the adult tube they had, we saw another family with a kid that had smaller size tube but we didn't see any smaller ones... There was an employee (young girl maybe teenager or early 20s in age) standing by the tubes, obviously it was her responsibility to man the tubes, but didn't say anything to us about a smaller tube. My daughter did great the first time down, But she didn't want to go again. Ugh, $24 wasted. To encourage her, I told her to stay with daddy and watch me while I go down the hill. I asked my hubby to take time and look around the pile of tubes again to see if he could find a smaller one. I managed to convinced my daughter to go up one more time but realized that she didn't like it because it was too bumpy for her going up and down the hill when half of her body was feeling the ground. After the second run, I once again walked around the piles of tubes to look for a smaller one. Mind you, this young employee still didn't say anything even though she knew what I was looking for. I finally asked her about it and she says to me "we have it, but are you sure she (referring to my daughter) is going on again? I don't want to get it if she's not going." ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I wanted to say to her, IT'S YOUR JOB - you are too lazy to get a tube from storage which is only 10 steps away from you even though you are getting paid. You obviously saw that we need it and SHOULD know that its much safer for a small child to have the right size tube instead of risk the chance for her to fall out. I was boiling inside but remain composed so she can get the tube for us. My daughter had much better time after she got the smaller tube. I was on top of the hill when I witness this same girl didn't help a kid with pulling his tube out of the lane when he was clearly struggling with it, which was slowing down everyone waiting to slide down. Even the other employee at the top said "why isn't she helping that kid out". So frustrating to have one person ruin your entire experience.

Yelp
Such a cute place to camp! The staff at the front desk was awesome. (Especially Connie) We arrived with everything we needed but we could have just used the camp store. They had everything there. The adventure park was closed due to inclement weather but we drove around and it looked very nice. The campsites are very private as well. We look forward to coming back.

Yelp
We switched plans last minute and cancelled Jay Peak to hit Gunstock. We had 50.00+ passes from www.skinh.com purchased in Oct. We arrived on a gorgeous Sunday, at 7:20 AM. We had first row parking. The place filled up in minutes. Friends who arrived at 9:30 waited 45 minutes in traffic to get in. Half day ticket lines were quite long. Thanks to last night's snow, according to www.skinh.com, Gunstock hit the jackpot. There was a solid 9" in most spots and some small drifts in other spots. We took Panorama, the only HS lift and started at Recoil. I should preface this by saying, this is my 5th season as a boarder. I once experienced 6" of powder at Wildcat but was totally unprepared for the thrill I would experience today. I was floating on a cloud of beautiful powder. The sides were knee deep. It took me a while go figure out how to board on this white stuff, but soon, I was blasting straight down the trails. People were whooping and hollering. The lift lines were non existent. Many of our runs, we had the chair to ourselves. Temps were so comfy. We stayed on the east side of the mountain until 11 AM and went in for snacks. I was EXHAUSTED. My legs were on fire. I run and train and have boarded every weekend this month and mid Jan. but was spent by 11. The lodge was comfortable at 11. We had our own food and dined with friends we met up with. When we came out, the lines were long. We moved to the single line and waited 15 minutes each time. This time we headed to the other side. It was super scary icy and super crowded. Flintlock was a mess. We made two runs and decided to call it a day. We saw one woman walking down almost in tears. My bf broke a binding and found support in the peak support station. SUPER nice people. The lift attendants were really courteous and friendly. The entire vibe was great. No intensity or manic people (as I have experienced at Snow and K'ton). We loved today, as short as it was. 2.5 hours of powder bliss was something I will never forget. I hope I get to experience this more. I have learned and boarded on ice so long and today, my skill level ramped up two degrees due to a different level of confidence. Man, more of this..powder bliss. One quick mention, the Panorama lift stopped off and on all day, more so than other experiences on other mountains. The quad lift load area is very tight with little room for 4 adults to stand before loading. The standing area is more suited for a triple.
