We drove up to the top of Gunung Raya and it was absolutely worth it. The winding road to the summit takes about 20 minutes by car and is full of wildlife – we spotted monkeys along the roadside and were lucky enough to see six majestic hornbills gliding across the sky with their incredible wingspans.
As we climbed higher, we noticed a refreshing drop in temperature, making it feel like a cool escape from the tropical heat below. The drive itself is beautiful, surrounded by dense rainforest, chirping birds and the peaceful hum of nature.
At the top, the views are spectacular, offering panoramic sights over Langkawi’s forests and coastline on a clear day. It’s quiet, serene and not overly crowded – perfect for nature lovers, birdwatchers or anyone looking to unwind above the island.
There’s a small area to park at the summit, and though there aren’t many facilities, the experience is all about the journey and the views. Definitely a hidden gem and one of the best scenic drives in Langkawi.
