We had lunch at Gure Toki since our Basque friend recommended it as a great place to try pintxos. The three of us had spent most of the morning/afternoon at the Guggenheim and were starved for lunch by the time we got here. The place was packed, but we managed to snag a table downstairs.
Our friend told us not to miss the idiazabal soup, which our waiter told us won some kind of Basque pintxo competition. It was good, but why it was so special was kind of lost on us (it also wasn't particularly warm by the time it hit our table). We also got some soft-shell crab (delicious), white asparagus (good, but too mushy), zucchini (the stuffed meat blossom was freakin' AMAZING, but the tempura veggie was a letdown), and this tray of tomatoes that made you feel like you died and went to tomato heaven every time you took a bite--best dish of the meal. We also got some pig ears (originally sold to us as "pig parts") that were....crunchy.
Service in Spain is atrocious, but was particularly atrocious in this place. Like John Oliver's Janice in Accounting: they just don't give a fuck. The guy completely forgot our order of tinto de veranos (which is nectar of the gods; do not miss this drink while in Spain), then forgot the octopus, and we got plates about 15 minutes after the food arrived, and on and on. It makes us want to give this place three stars, but the food was pretty good, so we're grudgingly pushing it to four stars.
