Gurney Drive Night Market

We only had time to visit this night market out of the 6 listed in the Lonely Planet. It was typical of a night market - busy, plastic tables and chairs, loads of food stalls, bright lights, interesting food on display. It was rather overwhelming, not only the sheer amount of food but the fact that there were so many competing stalls selling the same dishes. So we went with a few google reviews who mentioned particular stalls to help us pick where to order from. Can confirm that stall 107 had great chat kuey teow. We also ordered ayam Laksa from stall 77 which was alright. It's hard to give a reliable review when we didn't try any other dishes for comparison. It's still fun to check out if you're interested in the bustling market scene. Plus cheaper food than dine in restaurants.

Worth visiting at least once if you’re in Penang. Isn’t particularly large, but you do get a variety of options at reasonable prices. Not many umbrellas though so you’re exposed if it rains. Relatively close to Gurney Plaza nearby (5 min walk). Street parking lots seem to fill up pretty fast. Most stalls seem to open after 5pm but it seems only about 60% of them open on a weekday night.

Our best trip, first time coming here. Huge varieties of good local food. Definitely coming back.

This night food market is really big, 2 sections (the Muslim and Chinese food) Ordered 1. Claypot rice (not really nice) 2. Char kway teow with duck eggs. (Not bad, my children love it.) End up order another plate. 3. Fresh coconut x 4 (all not sweet) 4. Deep fried skewers ( good for sharing) 5. Wanton mee (so so only) In short- Food wise, it's not super fantastic (maybe those stores I patronised are not nice) Place are packed with people and satay smoked. A very local food place to explore and experience. Price point - abit on the average high.

Went here on Tuesday night, a lot of stalls were closed. Table full of balance food and utensils but nobody clean up. It took longer time to clean up, saw the drinks stall owner cleaned up the table. The char kuey teow stall was long queue. Not many to choose.

The food at Gurney Drive Night Market(Chinese) is disappointing like The char kuey teow, Penang laksa, satay …. Luckily this Beef Noodles 88 made this trip worth it.

Overpriced food. The food like fried rice and char kuey teow is only served in small portions but the price is around RM10~12. The taste is disappointing. Fried rice tastes like plain rice. And what's even funnier is that the stall is named as "Penang Best Char Kuey Teow, Fried Rice, Char Mee".

You'd expect street market stalls to be cheaper. But everything seemed overpriced here and in some cases weren't even cooked properly. To be honest, I doubt I'll be coming to this particular night market again.
