Rovaniemi, Finland Travel Guide

"A city-center restaurant that emphasizes fine local ingredients and hearty, well-crafted dishes — examples include lamb shank and scallops — and features house specialties like a sourdough called Knut bread (named after the owner's grandfather) served with homemade butter." - Lydia Mansel Lydia Mansel Lydia Mansel is a writer with more than eight years of experience editing and writing for both brands and online publications—with a particular focus on travel, fashion, and lifestyle. The most delicious steak I’ve ever tried. (I eat steak a lot). The bread and butter were so delicious. I want to know what makes the butter that good. However, the service was a little bit slow. Yes still understandable

Hi, We were initially hesitant to try the restaurant due to its limited vegetarian options, but since it was conveniently located next to our hotel, we decided to give it a shot—and we’re glad we did. For cold starters, we ordered the carrot, celery, and whitefish ceviche—all of which were incredibly delicious and packed with flavor. For mains, we had the risotto and roasted Arctic char. The risotto was rich, creamy, and had a strong, delightful cheese flavor. While I didn’t try the Arctic char myself, my husband thoroughly enjoyed it. The highlight of the meal, however, was the dessert. The three of us shared the French toast topped with coffee ice cream, and it was easily the best we've ever had—perfectly balanced in flavor and both soft and crispy. A surprisingly wonderful experience overall!

Bad service, rude and no service mind. We informed about my bf peanut allergy and asked explicitly if anything contain peanuts (we booked in advance and informed about peanut allergy in the booking) We still later learned that one dessert might contain peanuts. This shows that the restaurant and the staff do not care enough about customers’ food allergies. At the end, no apology from the staff and not owning up to the mistake. Food was just okay, most things were on the salty side. Although the side artichokes with the grilled fish was quite nice.

Awkward service. Felt discriminated for being Asian in this restaurant. The servers seem more keen to serve the whites. Arctic Char and Beef were decent but not awesome. Tofu was bad, tasted like some squashed starch. Risotto was way too salty. Sourdough nothing to complain about but also nothing to shout about. I'm not quite sure what gave this place the numerous 5 star reviews. I didnt get it in terms of service and food. The only thing that impressed me was their house riesling.

Dined here on Christmas and it was amazing! We made a reservation and are thankful we did that as it was a full house but they did leave some high seats for walk in. Even though it’s full, the waitresses and waiters are super attentive and always checking up with us if the food was alright. They changed up the menu every few months and Menu 19 was absolutely delicious! Their homemade butter and sourdough was delish, we ordered the white fish ceviche, beef tartare, artic char, beef entrecôte, pain Perdu and white chocolate and sea buckthorn. I got to say, all of them were so good, the entrecôte sauce was a little salty but acceptable. We even contemplating ordering more but were afraid of overeating! The price point was acceptable and super worthy for the portion and quality of food! Highly highly recommended!

From the very warm welcome, the attentive wait staff, the warm and inviting decor to the food on the plate this was a wonderful meal. The true stars are of course the Chefs and kitchen staff who prepare food that is not only a feast for the eyes but bursting with flavour

A Truly Unforgettable Dining Experience at Gustav Kitchen & Bar! My recent visit to Gustav at Rovaniemi was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we stepped inside, we were treated to a warm and inviting atmosphere that set the tone for a fantastic evening. The personal touch of having "Gustav" himself greet us and recommend dishes was a lovely surprise, and his suggestions proved to be spot on. The meal began with an impressive selection of bread and condiments, with the burrata cheese and pickles being particular standouts. The appetizers that followed were equally impressive, with each bite showcasing the kitchen's attention to detail and commitment to using only the freshest ingredients. The carrots, beef tartare, celery, and fish all combined to create a truly memorable start to the meal. For the main course, we opted for the beef brisket, fried tofu, and white fish, each of which was expertly prepared and presented. The flavors were bold and exciting, with each dish complementing the others perfectly. Throughout the meal, the service was attentive and knowledgeable, with our server happy to answer any questions we had about the dishes. No visit to Gustav would be complete without trying one of their incredible desserts. We were blown away by the creativity and skill that went into crafting each sweet treat, and the perfect ending to a truly unforgettable meal. Overall, our experience at Gustav was nothing short of exceptional, and we can't wait to return and do it all again. Five stars isn't enough – Gustav deserves a full six!

Some of the best food we’ve had in Europe. Family owned and operated. Clean, well presented, and unbelievably delicious. Photo of my fiancé trying to scrape the last pieces of desert off the plate, before we ordered another one… Thanks for a great experience guys!
