Visited on April 5, 2025. Online reservation necessary for the first sunday of the month free ticket. Unfortunately, the ground floor and first floor were closed to the public. Th works by Moreau are not my cup of tea, but it's interesting to see his studio adorned with a beautiful spiral staircase. Another thing I like about this museum is the information cards in different languages. So much better than reading the little text next to the paintings in most other museums, especially when they are crowded.

Small and charming museum built within and above the painter’s home. After visiting some private rooms that are filled with art and artefacts, you proceed to 2 more floors that house an impressive collection of Moreau’s art, with plenty of unfinished works. A couple of masterpieces will invite you for a closer look, and the artist’s symbolism style should make it worth your time. I spent slightly more than one hour and thoroughly enjoyed it.

The Gustave Moreau Museum is a lovely and captivating place, offering a fascinating glimpse into the artist’s world with stunning paintings and a unique atmosphere. However, be prepared to wait on weekends—even with advance tickets, the line can be surprisingly long. Plan accordingly to fully enjoy this hidden gem! 350,000 views/month on Google Maps As a Local Guide and photographer, I love discovering spots like this! Cool space and interesting art. Didn’t know about symbolism as an art genre before I came here. Some of the paintings are mindblowingly rich in detail. I also loved the spiral staircase from 2nd to 3rd floor.

I went to the museum simply because it was nearby. Nevertheless, the museum surprised me: a beautiful mansion, an incredible staircase, preserved interiors of the office, living room, dining room and bedroom. I didn’t know much about Moreau, but I read during my visit to the museum: an interesting fact is that he did not sell his paintings, so all his significant works are in this museum. I would especially like to note the museum toilet, which is on the 2nd floor and is also a historical room, but available for use. It is always surprising when a toilet in a historical building turns into a strange and ugly mix of modern and historical. Why is it nit possible to maintain the design in a completely historical model? It’s not difficult at all. I really wanted to replace the hand napkins, soap, antiseptic dispenser, trash can and water drain chain with something more authentic 😝😝😝

Can you appreciate all types of art? If so, then you will love this museum. If you’re more of a classical or modern art fan then you might have an inspired time here as I did. It is different.

Wonderful place that initially wasn't on my sightseeing list. I am so glad I stumbled upon it and decided to head in. Full of amazing pieces, wonderful spaces, a gorgeous staircase, and quiet arty vibes. I loved it.

Went for a visit not knowing what to expect. I knew Moreau is the king of symbolism in France. There are 3 levels to visit : his living places and two floors with a ton of his paintings. Very crowded walls in the rooms ; paintings can be unachieved as well as totally completed. Very often the Greeks are represented: Jupiter, Salome, Hercule, Pasiphae… 200+ paintings It is interesting but I am not fond of. The lights or the blâmées of the paintings are a surprise , sometimes too dark or too bright but he makes his point where he wants us to focus. Interesting museum and definitely worth a visit if the 2nd floor huge room that is really impressive

Yelp
One of the most unique smaller museums I had the pleasure of walking to, on a most glorious sunshine, warm day. Learned about this museum from Downie's exhaustive book on some serious Paris history. And then, almost done with Kevin Kwan's book #2, it just got an honorable mention as some girls in the book went to visit! The house that was transformed on the upper two levels to Moreau's very own studio, it was, to my delight, filled with art students deep in study and practice when I came by. The spiral staircase up to the top room is stunning, has a great view, and leads to a full hardwood to ceiling exhibit of so many various pieces! It takes one's breath away. Incredible amount of works that are all exhibited here. I'm not sure that I am a fan of his art, even those I spied at the Louvre. Any trompe l'oeil? Well, not exactly... But it's wonderful to have walked the 9th, and to have seen firsthand the artist's atelier and humble home. History truly is amazing.

Yelp
I just adore this museum! Lose yourself within and feel the magic of Gustave himself. Start your visit with a tour of Gustave's residence on the first floor and work your way upstairs into the gallery. This makes for a truly rewarding and relaxing day away from the hustle of the center city. Just wonderful!

Yelp
Very small. Made me wear my backpack on my front, so I couldn't take more than 2 or 3 pictures. If it wasn't free with the Paris Museum pass I wouldn't have gone, and I still feel like it wasn't worth it.

Yelp
Back for another visit because I'm visiting my daughter who is studying abroad. This is worth the visit as I stated in my other review. It seems like it's out of the way, but do a little research, you can easily walk to Galleries Lafayette or spend time in Montmartre. Good restaurants around here.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem of a museum where you can see great art, learn about the Paris exhibitions in the 1800s, and become familiar with an under appreciated artist. Because of its out of the way location, the Moreau Museum will likely attract true believers only. We ended up here because my partner was tiring of the mega museums Paris has in such abundance and because our home exchange partner placed this museum on her Paris top 10. Like the Delacroix and Monet museums, the Moreau museum was formerly the artist's home and studio, but Moreau's house is much bigger with a huge naturally lit studio space containing so much of his monumental and fantastical works depicting scenes from the Bible and mythology. This is a place where you can really take your time and absorb because it probably won't be crowded.

Yelp
One of my favorite museums in Paris; intimate and precious. If you're a Moreau lover, it is worth the trip to Montmartre.

Yelp
Hm, I'm jealous that Cassie P. got a guided tour. Because while the art (and the space) are cool, I also found a lot of it fairly incomprehensible and would have like to have a guide to explicate it for me. This neat little museum is free with the Museum Pass. I'd like to read up on on Gustave Moreau and then visit again. I think that would enable a better appreciation of his art. Also...the museum not crowded at all (except for a group of French art students busily sketching away) and the staff members were relatively friendly and helpful.

Yelp
I'm not always a fan of Moreau's art, sometimes yes and sometimes no, but as a slice of 19th life and art, this place is truly magnificent. The furnished rooms are magnificent in their cluttered opulence, the bedrooms with paintings, prints, photographs, mirrors all hung from eye-level to ceiling are striking. If you are in to the simplified lines and sparse decoration of the Modern, these rooms might annoy you to no end. I, however, love this 2nd Empire/Belle Epoque style. Most wonderful is climbing the winding staircase up to Moreau's studio...a vast space that opens up with light light light. Here you'll find Moreau paintings (some unfinished), studies, sketches by thousands, etc. I would check out a few of the paintings and then just enjoy the space and travel back to a not so distant Parisian past.

Yelp
A great little find, right here in Montmartre! One floor of restored living space and three floors of gallery - nice! The architecture of the home was nearly as impressive as the artwork. Very enjoyable hour.
