Gustavo's Mexican Restaurant

I recently had the pleasure of dining at this outstanding Mexican restaurant, and I can confidently say it was one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed by the staff, and the atmosphere was vibrant and inviting. The food was absolutely phenomenal—rich in flavor, beautifully presented, and clearly made with care and authentic ingredients. Every dish we tried, from the appetizers to the main courses, was bursting with traditional Mexican flair and perfectly seasoned. What truly elevated our visit, however, was the exceptional service. Our waiter, David, was incredibly attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and made sure we were comfortable and well taken care of throughout the meal. Manager Shelly also went out of her way to check in on us and was equally courteous and gracious. Their hospitality added a personal touch that made our experience feel special and genuinely appreciated. If you’re looking for a place with fantastic food and top-notch service, this restaurant is a must-visit..

The food was actually quite good – fresh and nicely prepared. The flavors were satisfying and the quality was definitely there. However, I did feel like the menu was a bit limited. A few more options would have really elevated the experience and given it more variety. Because of the narrow selection, it felt a little repetitive, especially if you’re a picky eater or looking for something specific. That said, what they do offer, they do well. It’s definitely a spot worth stopping by and giving a try. I’d recommend it if you’re in the area and want something simple but tasty.

If you are ever in Monticello, eat at Gustavo’s!! You won’t regret it. They are authentic but not sloppy. The free chips and salsa are unlimited. The salsa they bring out is spicy! Not at first but in the back end so beware! Coke products to drink. Prices are above $10 each plate but the bite will not disappoint.

Delicious…delicious…delicious…the enchiladas suiza were soooo flavorful in a green poblano pepper sauce that just had the tiniest hint of spiciness. Ask for both chicken and shredded beef. The chips were amazing and rice, beans and chicken breast were also great. Service by Beto was very friendly and fast. Love this place! Oh, and the guac!!!!! Order at least a side! 😋❤️

4.5 stars because i like the al pastor taco and the sauce that came with it. The carnitas plate was ok, nothing especial. The flan was good same with the horchata. Serving size ok too. They’re expensive but that’s because they’re in the middle of nowhere.

Surprisingly good food in a small town. Lots of parking. Clean dining room and bathroom. Friendly and pretty efficient staff. A little pricey. My food was good but not what I expected. Ate all of it though. My buddy loved his. If I went through town again, I'd stop by and get the carnitas.

Went to Gustavo’s for dinner last night and got a pina colado and some chicken mole enchiladas. Everything felt very fresh and homemade and our server was nice. Food took a bit to come out because it was busy but it was delicious. The mole was a bit too sweet for me but other than that it was a good meal!

The food was off the hook! A bit on the hot side, but dam good! The service from all the staff was excellent and spot on with checking on how your doing. For us truckers that go by here it's a must stop for excellent Mexican food, I highly recommend eating here. Whenever I go threw thus town, I will be stopping in for lunch or dinner. Hungry or not, I do have a microwave in the truck to warm up if need be. 😁 keep up the good work, great cooking and great service!!! Till I pass threw again..... great work yall

I asked the server for suggestions and I had chicken in mole. Freaking amazing! We had a combination plate and tacos barria. All were great! Highly recommended.

Really delicious! Great salsa! Quick service and consistent flavor/presentation. We love the shrimp enchiladas and the beef chimichanga! Wonderful small town find! Must try!

One best hidden Mexican restaurants in Monticello Utah, Wow!! This chef should have a Michelin star!! His my mouth, the flavors of their salsa off the chart, guacamole fresh the table. They served from their heart and Soul!! If you drive by this restaurant it's your pallet loss turn around, go back and order everything you can!! Enjoy!! I sure did!!

Good food. I would rate higher if the portion sizes were later. Kind of expensive for what you get.

Great beef taco. The shell was delicate and crunchy and the meat very saucy like birria. Also has the burrito that was covered in a delicious red suave. The inside of the restaurant was quite nice too.

Driving to Moab from Mesa Verde, we passed this restaurant and decided to give it a try for a late lunch! We are GLAD we did. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. The chef's were singing as they were preparing the meals. They really paid attention to the details and the plates were very prettily presented. Now for the flavors!!! The Hatch Stacked Enchiladas were delicious. The Quesatacos were really tasty, too. When we complemented our server about the unique flavors of the sauces, she brought out more sauces to let us try. They were all unique, interesting and very good. The portions were large! You could tell the restaurant was well cared for and it was very clean. Would definitely visit again.

This seems to be the only Mexican food place open at usual hours in the area, and it's incredibly busy! One waiter but he was a mover & shaker! Large portions so you could easily share after gorging on Chips & Salsa! Decorated nicely and delicious plenty of space for elbows and full bellies!

What incredible Mexican food. The best steak tacos I have ever had. The service was also outstanding. A+

Nice local Mexican restaurant that are run by Mexicans. We had the shrimp enchenchiladas & burrito / taco combo. Margaritas are only on the rocks and the house blend is ok. Clean and friendly staff that is on top of things. English is a challenge but work through it. Reasonable prices and great food in a quaint atmosphere. Recommend this place.

I'm a vegetarian and was rudely explained there was nothing on the menu for me and no substitutions were possible because of the use of lard and chicken broth. Gustavo's looked very promising but definitely for carnivores only.

We stopped on our way to Monument Valley and we all had a delicious lunch. The place is decorated so nicely and the food is outstanding.

Food was amazing, stopped because of a snow storm the size of thefiid was for leftovers. I had the chili renjeho and chix burrito. my son had 3 carne asada tacos and friend had a HUGE burrito. service was great.Highly recomend!!! Owner operator, server cook - Support this place!!!!

Very good food. We came in during the Memorial Day weekend around 7:30, the restaurant was completely full and we waited around 10-15 mins. The waiters were very busy and we were standing by the doorway for a while without anyone acknowledging us, a little awkward. Once we were seated the food came pretty quick. I would say the food we ordered were actually better than many restaurants we dined in Mexico, very authentic and good flavors. Portion was large for us. The place feels very clean and has a nice atmosphere. Overall I would rate five stars

Gustavo's was a pleasant stop to eat as we were passing through the area. From the decor to the Mexican Music to the delicious food, we were very happy with our experience. Check them out if you are in the area!

Quickly seated. Nice atmosphere. I was offered salsa and chips quickly and drink order was taken. I had the Gustavo stacked enchiladas. I'd recommend it. I'd get it again. They even gave me a chocolate covered strawberry for Valentine's Day's

Great service! Clean and cute! I had chips and salsa and the chicken mole enchiladas. Delicious salsa, excellent rice and beans. The mole was good and had a bit of heat, but was a little bit too sweet for my liking. Overall, everything was above and beyond what I expected.

Delicious dishes! Had the Hatch Stacked Enchiladas and the Grilled Tilapia dish and both were superb. We loved the side rice but felt that the beans were a little bland. Service was excellent! We had hoped to get their special margaritas but they only had the house. Will def be back!

Super clean. Very efficient service. Lunch specials affordable. Salsa and chips brought right out. Chile relleno had ground beef in it. Different but still good. Chimichanga excellent. Would definitely go there again!

Good food, nice people, good location. Prices are roughly 20 a person. Very very fast after you order. Plenty of flavor, chips and salsa were great with a spicy edge to it

I did not expect to find a restaurant this good in rural Utah. But I knew as soon as they brought out the house made chips and salsa that we were in for a treat. The mole in the mole chicken enchilada was sweet and spicy and divinely chocolate-y. The bean and cheese burrito was on another level - best I've ever had. If you're in or near Monticello, I highly recommend a trip to Gustavo's.

Good food and service. We tried a little bit of everything. Driving through we were hungry and this sounded good. Give it a try not our normal Mexican food but it was good. They don't have homemade tortillas but corn worked.

Me and my boy were rollin thru town, you know -creepin with the windows down / old school funk on the radio..We looked at each other and said "Mexican" at the same time.. then we rolled up on Gustavo's .. looked like some cowboy IHOP... got in there and DAMN that place was fire...fly waitresses, dope food and salsa hot enough to tighten your b- hole ... beers are cold too... as far as I am concerned. IT's Gustavo's or go hungry- peace and keep it real

Heading out of Arches National park, stopped in Gustavo's with low expectations, but we were starving. Mexican food in Utah? How good could it be? Let me tell you, It's AMAZING. The enchiladas and burritos were filling with the best red Chile sauce. Great service, great food, great lemon pie for dessert, and the gorgeously-tatted waitress was as sweet as the pie. I will be coming here again every time we drive through!

If you need Mexican food and you're passing through - this is your stop. Good food. Good service.

Best Mexican food I have had in a good long time. The Zarape was magnificent! Service was top notch with iced tea refills coming in almost stealthy. Great little place just off the highway. Highly recommend!

My wife and I stopped here between Durango and monument valley. I think it was the highest rated place in town, and the rating is deserved. The food was delicious and the presentation was not what I would have expected. Service was excellent. I would definitely stop here again.

We enjoyed the food so much we went back for another meal. I had the crispy chili releno my sister had a burrito. We both had more than we could eat. The restaurant is clean and light the service was good.

Great place! It's so nice to find a gem in small towns. The veggie burrito was fantastic, a nice, fresh twist that's not normal. Very tasty with great chips & salsa. Fast, friendly service. Clean inside.

Everything was delicious. From the chips and salsa, the street tacos, quesadillas, the burritos to the chicken tenders and fries. The staff was very friendly and provided excellent service. We can't wait to come back!

I enjoy Mexican food, but this restaurant left something to be desired. I ordered what I thought was a steak with peppers, onions, and mushrooms on top with a chipotle sauce. What I got was small strips of steak with the previously mentioned items mixed yet. I assumed when the other steak meals Stated steak that this one would also have a steak included. Boy was I wrong. It was similar to having a fajita. The sauce on it was extremely hot. I like spicy foods, but this was too much. The restaurant had a lot of people coming in and eating. I would've probably been much happier if I had been told when I was getting more clearly and ordered something else. Try it at your own risk.

I live in Monticello. I eat here about once a week. This restaurant is absolutely fantastic. I've tried just about everything on the menu and it's all good. A definite cut above your standard Mexican faire. You can tell that the owners put in the extra effort. Yes it's more expensive than the typical fast food Mexican joint, but the ingredients, attention to detail, presentation make it worth the extra few bucks. It's insane that you can get quality food like this here in Monticello. I hope this restaurant is here forever. Thank you Gustavo's!

Excellent food with great flavors. Waitress, Kim, was the best ever. Highly recommended this little gem.

A few months ago, we were spending the night in Monticello after a day at Canyonlands and checked the Yelp reviews. Except for one,thereviews for Gustavo's were overwhelmingly positive. Despite the reviews,we were skeptical as we are very picky about our Mexican food.This rating is based on the chile rellenos,enchiladas,salsa, and chips which were all excellent. The service was great, the staff was friendly, and the price was reasonable. We will definitely return if we are anywhere near the area.

We were passing through town and spotted this restaurant and turned around and came back. It was delicious! Spicy! Different that the usual. We really enjoyed it and highly recommend it!

We were looking for good food and saw Gustavo's had 4.5 stars. The restaurant was clean, the servers were very attentive and the food was excellent! I got the pork carnitas street tacos and the roasted Serrano salsa was delicious! Highly recommend!

We love to eat at Gustavo's; great food and friendly staff. Highly recommend you try the SalsaNegra on the side with the shrimp Enchiladas. (My favorite. )

The reviews I read before coming are true; this place is AMAZING. Such good, flavorful authentic Mexican food. The restaurant is lovely, clean and cute and the service was prompt and friendly. The chicken chimichanga was so fresh and full of flavor; I was so happy! The food was played and presented in a classy nice way too! Free Chips and Salsa which is always pleasing as well! I can't wait to come back!!!

Was looking for place for lunch on a Monday. This place only one open and also had great food. Guacamole was tasty. Beef fajitas were done nicely and the enchilada stack with green chili was large portion.

Great food!! The quesadilla was excellent but they have no alcohol!! We came expecting a yummy marg after a long day exploring Arches National park, saw some fun options on the menu, we go to order and she tells us they don't have alcohol! oh well, food was great still.

The food was the best we have had in years and beautiful presentation. We even stopped again on our return trip. Service was great and fast. We will be back!

Good Mexican food in a cool building. I've never stopped to eat in Monticello, but today was the day. I had the Chicken enchiladas Suiza. It was good nice spice level. Rice and beans were on point, and the presentation was great. Also enjoyed the chips and salsa which had a kick to it! I'll definitely stop here again.

Expedient & lovely service! Warm, sugary, and creme-filled churros with whipped cream and chocolate dipping sauce satiated my chimichanga-full stomach. Pleasant, clean atmosphere with charming employees and top-notch Monticellan Mexican cuisine. Just passing thru but made our drive from Edge of the Cedars to Cortez one of my favorites.

My husband and I were driving through on our way to Monument Valley when we stopped for gas and lunch in Monticello. If you do not want pizza or gas station food, absolutely go here. In fact go here even if you want that because it is sure to be better. The service was amazing. Friendly staff and very attentive to our questions and needs. The chips and salsa were a great start. We were a little early for lunch, but our food still came out in a timely manner. Once the food was in front of us you could tell it was going to be delicious. It was incredible!! I got the combo plate with a chicken enchilada and my husband got the pastor tacos. The sauce with the tacos was by far the best salsa I've ever had (pineapple and habanero). Overall, we both highly recommend eating here and supporting a local business!
