Restaurant Gys Utrecht

Probably one of the best vegan/vegetarian meals in a long time. Unique and tasteful dishes with some really flavorful sauces. A beautiful day to sit outside. Luke was a very kind, knowledgeable and gracious host. Thank you 2nd visit in oct2025 for dinner - still a fantastic experience

The food is really good, but I find the price way out of proportion. For not even a quarter of cauliflower you pay €16. To get a full main you'd need at least 3 of those + side dishes (their recommendation). The food is genuinely good quality, but I really miss the concept it was before where you had good, tasty vegan food for an affordable price. The dessert is the only thing on the menu with a good quantity-price balance.

Wauw! This was delicious! I am gluten and lactose free so to have a menu where I can eat ALL of the menu is a dream. The only downside is that I definitely over ate because each dish was a flavor bomb!

The food was absolutely amazing! We had both main courses and dessert, and everything was fresh and full of flavor. I came with two meat eaters and even they said it was delicious, always a good sign. The location is lovely, with a cozy outdoor terrace. Definitely recommend!

I am quite conflicted here. From my perspective the food was overall (very) nice. However... - My girlfriend had a Cesar salad with dressing, bread crumbs and literally only (mostly unchopped) romaine lettuce. Nothing else (in the salad). - On a Saturday early evening (not even 6 pm) the restaurant ran out of crunchy tofu and the kitchen didn't communicate that to the waiters. - We had to wait for the dessert for almost 40 minutes(which then was more sorbet with fudge than fudge with sorbet). - If you aren't completely full after a 3 course meal (120€ for 2 people) then there is conceptually something off. You want to orientate as a restaurant at higher cuisine? Fair enough, but even at a 5 course meal bread for instance, or generally some carbohydrates, are simply included. A pity, it could have been easily a much better experience. Thank you to the waiter though.

The service was really friendly. The menu card is not too long (4 mains) and that is really a positive point in my opinion if you want to get fresh food. (And less waste?) Food was tasty. Will definitely come back to try other mains.

Great place to have lunch! The food was delicious. Everything with mushrooms on the menu is a must- have! The staff is friendly, prices are fair. Inside seemed a bit full and we stayed outside which was nice.

Nice place, friendly staff. A bit narrow and many tables squeezed in there but still okay. Food was good, however the classic burger came with a sauce that reminded my daughter of acid reflux so that was not a success. Soup was good, a bit lukewarm. Rendang was good.

Had lunch here with a carnivorous friend. We both enjoyed the meal. The house made juice was great. I didn't have too great expectations for the ramen given it wasn't a Japanese restaurant but it was delicious. The kapsalon was scrumptious and filling.

I'm not vegetarian or vegan so I'm always impressed when a place can cater for all! I actually went for a vegetarian risotto but one of my friends had vegan and the other had meat. The price was very reasonable and the portions were good size. Nice outside area but no reservations.

Gys has everything to be the coolest place in town. It looks good, has a good menu and a sunny terrace. I loved the food I had there, it was amazing, but overall the place could vastly improve: - Our table was dirty when we arrived. And it stayed dirty. - The service was friendly, but had too much work. As a result : we waited for our drinks for HOURS. So long in fact, that we got them as we were leaving. Nope. Not cool. They seriously need to be more careful with that kind of details, because it can truly ruin everything.

All star vegan food!!! We are a couple of Hokies from VA visiting the Netherlands and found this gem. This place is a foodies best friend! It's a must eat if you come around here!

It is rare for me to find such a different kind of place to eat. I love Gys! Everything is vegan, but I took a meat dish. It was this bread with lamb meat and a mint sauce, but also with some veggies I didn't eat for a while, so awesome. And I had this special soda from a flower, yummy. The restaurant is also in one of my favourite streets of Utrecht, so everything nice is close by. I will go here again definitely! The staff was also really really sweet :)

Very cool and healthy restaurant! We were looking for a place for having lunch after a graduation. Gys is exactly the place you need for a relaxing lunch or snack. The menu is quite wide with (veg)burgers, salads, sandwiches, soups and some exotic food. Everything is organic, the place is warm with tables and chairs in wood and some minimal lights. I took the burger made of aubergines and lentils, it was very tasty and quite big serving with some vegetables and homemade fries too. I loved it!

Dank u wel. We had been yesterday again in Gys (Amsterdamerstraat) and had a heel goed meal. The service was really nice and obliging. The meals heel smakelijk, vers, aromatisch. The lavatory is very clean. Wifi is for free. The Cake van de week was soooooooo amazing we took another one with us home. We are really really sad not eating here so often but really enjoying coming here each holidays. We really recommend to eat here. Thank you so much. Kind regards from Frankfurt

Really cool place with amazing food. I am allergic to dairy, but was happy to find a vegan restaurant. HOWEVER, some friends and I split the chefs special dessert ( which is meant to be vegan) l, and I had an allergic reaction. Not only that the restaurant was adamant that there was no dairy in anything, and did not give any kind of compensation and were not very helpful. If you have any king of lactose intolerance or allergy to dairy might want to avoid.

I had food from Gys twice already. The first time I took it away but got to see their place which I found very nice. The salad I ordered was fresh and delicious. The second time I got a bit lazy and asked Deliveroo to go get food for me and it was also very good. I ordered a Tomaat-Biet soep, it was very thick but tasty and also some carpaccio that I enjoyed. I love having healthy and tasteful options. I found the prices a bit high for the quantity but the quality is definitely there. Good spot in Utrecht where I can feel the trend for healthy-bio choices is growing!

A surprisingly tasty creation! I ordered the small sampler and was pleased to receive a healthy sized sampler of a wide variety of unique food combinations.

Nice spot, tables out on the street and friendly service. Had a jet lagged breakfast/lunch and the food was fresh and tasty. Nice mango ginger smoothie to wash things down and perk me up. Coffee isn't great (go to the village just down the street for great coffee) but this is my only real complaint.

The concept of Gys is great: easy but original food with plenty of vegetarian and vegan options, for an even better price, in a slightly overpacked space ;-) but they should really really install an A/C asap.
