Ha Mar ao Luar, Estremadura, Portugal - Explore & Book

"The position here is faultless: high above the castle, with imperious views that stretch as far as the eye can see. Directly in front a thirty-mile crescent of sand curves south on the Tróia peninsular; to your left the Rio Sado sweeps west, carving out the odd lagoon before tumbling into the ocean. Sailing boats, cargo ships and ferries zip about; the historic port of Setúbal guards the banks three miles below. Há Mar ao Luar ('moonlight-on-sea') is a quirky place with rustic, homely interiors and a pool on a terrace. There are suites in the main house, a windmill with staggering views, other hideaways nestled in the garden. You're largely left to your own devices but, if requested, breakfast can be left in your fridge the night before, so you can get up whenever you like. You can walk down the cliffside path, past the castle, into the vibrant town where ferries shuttle across to Tróia for beaches, Roman ruins, a golf course and bird watching. Perfect for couples in search of simple, understated romance, or families looking for an easy escape with shared pool and beaches nearby. Highs Fabulous views of the estuary and ocean Quirky, self-catered accommodation, with the option to have breakfast ingredients provided We loved Casinha with its cosy terrace, and the windmill - Moinho du Luar - with its bed-with-a-view Setúbal for its old town; the peninsula for its wooded hills and secluded beaches Excellent value in an under-the-radar corner of Portugal Lows Don’t expect hotel service, do expect peace and privacy at the top of a hill Some beds are on the firm side, and extra beds have thin mattresses The kitchenettes are simple - you'll need to head out for dinner Early season feedback suggests that the building needs a lick of paint, and the grounds some TLC The night life is at the bottom of the hill, but you are here for rustic escapism" - Tom Bell

What a beautiful and quite place to stay and truly rest. I went without car but you can easily take a taxi and in 10minutes you are at the property, from the city center. I did a direct booking with Isabel and she was so nice and friendly from the beginning. (Please book directly, you will get a better price). Stayed in the small house in the corner and loved it. Really what I needed, be alone with nature. The breakfast is great, orange juice, great coffee and local fresh bread. I do recommend it a lot and can't wait to visit again!

The property has various bedroom suites. We stayed in two during our extended stay. The accommodation has an aged chic. Its has a subtle style with art, decorations, the best bed linen and bedding and a feel that only someone of exquisite taste could create. Stylish but not flashy. Slightly aged, perhaps shabby chic. We loved it!||Stunning views to sea, sunrise across the ocean, fresh air, national park surrounds.||Added to that, lovely staff on site always willing to help and assist. We love this place and will be back and back again.

On top of a hillside in a nature spot overlooking the setúbal bay area this place offers breathtaking views from the outdoor pool area.||Views from hillside are worth a million bucks, comfort level of the suites not so much. Toilet didnt flush (lever system needs to be replaced), beds (one actual small queensize bed and one fold out bed-like bunk that is onder the sofa) either had super hard or paper thin matress with no support whatsoever.||Took several minutes to get warm water. ||All in all, scenery and pool area Made it worthy

Incredible find. Very quiet villa up in the hills, unbelievable view of the sea which you can enjoy from the pool, gorgeous rooms which are actually self contained little homes, breakfast hung on your door in the morning, very reasonable rates. The woman who runs the place accommodated us at the last minute and treated us like VIPs, arranging a driver to take us to and from the beach and even driving us to the rail station ourselves. Couldn't recommend it more highly.

What a find! Gorgeous little place. We stayed for 3 night off season in September in the windmill for our honeymoon. Decor slightly dated but just added to the charm. There was a lack of a chopping board and cooking utensils like no wooded spoons. This could be very easily sorted and i don't imagine anyone actually cooks there in the evenings. I just needed something to stir my scrambled eggs!!!!||the breakfast was perfect and we loved just being left to it.||lovely friendly doggy comes to say hello every morning.||||the view......... breathtaking!||||the walk into town is 20 mins and dont try the walk back its only 5€ taxi.||||great beaches close by and the national park is spectacular.

We stayed in our own little house with a covered veranda, all with the same fantastic view for miles. At night there were fireflies and the friendly dogs barked. We felt cosy and had everything we needed with crisp white sheets on the very comfortable bed. Breakfast of fresh bread and coffee was brought to us each morning and there were some other items in the fridge which was replenished each day. The small kitchen area was equipped with everything you would need if you wanted to cook but the restaurants down the hill are SO good!||We were heavily discouraged from walking in the beautiful countryside, as everyone seemed to fear for our safety, but there are lovely walks and hills all around. Everyone was so friendly and eager to help.

I went to Há Mar ao Luar to spend a quiet weekend with my friends (we were 9) and everything was perfect.||I will point out some of the things we liked, but will probably be unfair and leave important issues behind....||The property has the main building and 3 independent house/cabanas, all of them very well decorated and focused on our comfort (very good beds and linen and fresh breakfast at our doorstep every morning). a delicious swimming pool and an AMAZING view. We've stayed on this independent houses/cabanas.||The owner was very nice and made sure that everything could be perfect. We've enjoyed every moment of our stay.||THANKS!!!

If you would like a really quiet holiday, in a beautiful setting, this is the llace to go. Our apartment was spacious and clean, and the view stunning. This is the sort of place where your privacy and desire for solitude is respected...the staff are never intrusive. Excellent, discreet service, a lovely pool, and a short drive to fabulous beaches and restaurants.
