Do you know which Habibah is the original and the best? Is this point often disputed (is it? I actually don't know)? I've been told that this is the one, from reputable sources, no less!
Let me tell you about my journey. It was maybe the first or second day of Ramadan. If you're reading this as a non local, non muslim, then you may not know the significance of this detail. During Ramadan, muslims fast throughout the day. Therefore, restaurants are closed when the sun is out. But let me tell you, the experience of being in Amman during Ramadan at night is like a slow moving electron riding through a circuit on its way to powering a blender filled with delicious sweet cheeses and syrupy goodness!
There are two types of knafeh, the soft/smooth variant, and the rough variant. Knafeh Na'ameh and Knafeh Khishneh, respectively. Everyone has their preferences. I've tried both, and I will tell you, the smooth one is absolutely my favorite. If this is your first time, I'd recommend having both so that you can form your own opinion. But, if you can only have one, if you're not a true foodie, then at least try the smooth one. And if you want to fulfill your tiktok insta dreams, go across the street afterwards and get yourself a scoop of Arabic ice cream to go on it. Although, if you ask me, the knafeh is better on its own.
I will be back the next time I'm in town. This is a must try if you are visiting. Do. Not. Miss. It!
