⚠️A lot of positives, and a relatively small negative point** at the end of the review⚠️
First of all, the family who owns the hotel were extremely welcoming, from the humans to the lovely 2 dogs!
-We were supposed to get a certain room but there was an error from Booking’ system, so that room wasn’t available. Regardless, the hosts handled it on their own with booking to make sure we could stay at theirs and we benefited from an upgrade, which is greatly appreciated!
-We’re not really breakfast people so we only ate once, but really only because we were busy hiking/cycling/swimming first thing in the morning, otherwise breakfast is strongly recommended, some of the tastiest eggs, pinto rice, and plantain, we’ve had in the country!
-When we needed to rent bicycles or a car, the hosts helped us extensively and we are extremely grateful for that too!
-We’re not very much into group activities and over socialising where we sleep. So we do appreciate the fact that the hosts were not invasive and we could have a nice quick chat everyday and do our thing! They offered but were not pushy with us eating at their restaurant or using their boat tours.
-Great location and natural setting in a remote and quiet town. Wi-Fi, parking and AC all good!
**Negative point: the cleaning lady (or someone extremely smart and sneaky) went through our belongings and stole cash + medication from our room. When we talked about it with the hosts, they agreed to help and ask her, let us talk with her as well. Ultimately, we had some proof but did not catch her in the act and had to accept that it was a tricky situation for the hosts and they generously offered to pay for the money stolen, so that’s that.
Thinking back on it, another strange thing was the fact that the cleaning lady NEVER actually CLEANED our room floor, toilets, or outdoors shower, nor changed our bedsheets in 8 days🤔 towels and toilet paper were changed every other day, but surely she does not need to access our room just for that ?
Anyway, first time in more than 50 countries visited that something of the sort happens to me, and I will take it as a lesson to always carry surveillance systems wherever I go in the future, easy to set up and avoid headaches later 🙌
