Hacienda Chichen, Near Merida, Yucatan, Mexico - Explore & Book

"Within sight of Chichen Itza's Mayan temples sits this stunning 16th-century hacienda. Ancient temple stones were used to build its base over 500 years ago, and the rooms are filled with sculptures and artwork that evoke the atmosphere of the ruins. If you want to see Chichen Itza by day, by night and best of all, in the early morning, there's simply no better place to stay. Set amidst eco-friendly tropical gardens, the hacienda is as peaceful now as in its heyday - sit in a rocking chair on your porch and all you'll hear is birdsong. The buildings are typically Mexican: bright yellow walls, open archways and uneven stone paths. And as you'd expect, colour is everywhere - in the terracotta pots, glorious pink bougainvillaea and vast jungle of leafy plants. Shaded pathways lead to the 28 rooms and suites that sprawl amongst the grounds. Beautifully furnished and relaxing, they'll make you want to stay far longer than you intended. And when you discover the Yaxkin spa, you may want to change your flight... Highs The hacienda is only a 5-minute drive from the Chichen Itza ruins so you can arrive early to beat the tour buses Owners Belisa and Bruce have fully refurbished one of Mexico's oldest haciendas to create a haven for guests and wildlife The eco-friendly grounds are stunning: 300 acres filled with exotic insects, birds and plants There are guided bird-watching tours around the grounds, a spa offering traditional Mayan treatments, and a lovely large swimming pool to cool off in Lows There are no TVs, phones or reliable WiFi in the rooms, and the remote location means you may struggle to get a mobile signal It's difficult to access Mérida without a car, and there's no airport transfer service Although children are welcome, it's the serenity of this place that's so attractive and you might feel self-conscious if you bring lively toddlers The hotel's private entrance to the ruins is now closed" - Lucia Appleby

We were amazed as we drove up to this stunning property. As we checked in our concierge, Adrian, was there to greet us with fresh squeezed mandarin juice and fresh fruit from their garden. He introduced us to the property and confirmed our dinner reservations and massage appointments. We walked through the lovely gardens and sat on our secluded porch before dinner. Our meal was delicious and innovative, very large portions and reasonably priced. The hotel holds so much history and culture, the staff seem to really take pride in the property. We stayed in the Honeymoon Suite, which was decorated in authentic Mexican style surrounded by lush tropical landscape. It was great having Chichén Itza Ruins so close by, we were able to arrive prior to the tour busses. We would love to come back and would highly recommend at least a 2 night stay here.

Stayed here as a family of four and absolutely loved it. The location for Chichén Itsa is brilliant (seven minute drive) and the hotel itself is gorgeously tucked away in the jungle (complete with birds, frogs, snakes and all elements of jungle life). Dinner and breakfast both delicious and a lovely atmosphere with other diners on the terrace. Pool area is great and refreshing. Staff couldn’t have been more accommodating - would highly recommend.

First, although the resort is next to the ruins, you actually need to drive 5km around to get to the entry gate. It's good if you have your own car, else the hotel can call you a taxi (100 pesos or so). ||Our room was of fairly rustic construction. It was large, and had a good a/c unit. The door was a bit porous, and the furniture a bit creaky and old. The bathroom was tiny and the shower barely a closet. The wi-fi signal didn't reach into our cabin with the thick walls; we had to go outside to pick up a signal. It was charming in its own way, but depending on how much time you spend in the room, questionably worth the price.||The Hacienda also has a lot to offer on-site, which is good due to its isolated location. This is the part I enjoyed most about our visit. The grounds are extensive and gorgeously manicured, and you can do nature walks to see birds (owls, toucans, parrots among others we saw) and wildlife (we had a family of agouti outside our room). They also offer guided bird tours of the grounds. There is also a turtle pond. At night you may also get to see scorpions or tarantulas around the grounds (or on the porch outside your room!). They also have a great pool for relaxing after a day exploring Chichén Itzá.

It’s a wonderful place, not only because it’s located next to the incredible Mayan archaeological ruins, but also because of the attention and warmth of all the staff. They make you feel at home. The food is exquisite—traditional dishes with a perfect touch of sophistication. The 16th-century hacienda preserves a colonial charm that transports you back in time. The saltwater pool, surrounded by the magnificent Mayan jungle, completes the experience. If you’re looking for a place to rest and disconnect from daily life, this is the place. And the cleanliness is another amazing plus. For my boyfriend and me, it will be our Mayan paradise forever !

Beautiful hacienda with lovely garden. You feel like you are in the jungle and that is a very positive thing😊||Staff is very welcoming and helpful. The rooms are little “rusty” but everything is clean and the a/c works brilliantly.||We only stayed one night. But and additional night and an easy day at the pool would have been great. too.||We needed a taxi and they provided us with a great taxi driver and found a fair price. Taxi prices are CRAZY. We paid 2,000 pesos to go to Tulum. Literally the last hotel at the beach strip before the parc.||We give the hotel our warmest recommendations.

Good location close to Chichen Itza set in lovely gardens. The pool was nice with a few loungers, but with plenty of other outside seating areas, although maybe a bit limited in the bar area.|Do the birdwatching trip in the garden if that kind of thing interests you. The local guide was fun and informative.|The room was spacious and clean, but the bathroom being semi-open to the bedroom (bathroom walls don't go to ceiling height) meant privacy was a little limited. Make sure you and your travelling partner are comfortable with hearing everything!!|The restaurant was good, with well prepared, tasty food and good service.|Staff were friendly, but the extensive, paper-based check-in process feels outdated and a little frustrating after a long drive there. There is a US$50 charge for bringing food and drink from outside, and our guide said housekeeping will check the bins. I can understand not bringing hot food/takeaways and beers in but making people fearful of being spied on for snacks seems unhelpful.

Hacienda Chichen is such a lush and lovely place. Plants, flowers and birds everywhere. We really enjoyed our stay at the hacienda. A special thanks to Adrián for making our stay even greater. Adrián gave us a great tour of the hacienda, garden, church, gallery and cave on the property.

The Hacienda is located about a five minute drive to Chichen Itza. If the archeological sites are your destination then this is a very good place to stay at. The Hacienda is very peaceful, aesthetically beautiful, very friendly staff. On arrival the staff greeted us with a refreshing complimentary drink that helped with the hot weather. I rented 2 rooms for 5 people, three kids and two adults. We got a very charming cabin that had 2 rooms next to each other. The kids stayed in one room and the facility felt very safe. I don't know why some people said in their reviews that the Hacienda is very strict on outside food. My kids took fruit with them in the room and I never heard any complaints from the staff. The rooms did not have a TV which I am grateful it didn't. The point is to enjoy the facility not be in the room watching TV. The swimming pool was perfect, it was very peaceful and it looks beautiful at night. The restaurant is peaceful, the food is not only delicious but is presented in a creative beautiful way that is pleasing to the eye. The prices are resort prices which I was already expecting, but I didn't mind paying since I have spent way more at the Cheesecake Factory and the food is not as great as what I experienced at the Hacienda. I would definitely stay in this place again.
