Pictures are deceiving! Don't go!
Just returned from a 7 night / 8 day stay with my family, which included my husband, our 3 daughters (ages 12, 8 and 7), and my parents. My parents are Marriott owners and traded their week through Interval to stay at this "recommended" resort. Aside from the actual landscaping/grounds and views, I, unfortunately, have nothing good to say.
Prior to our arrival, we opted for the all-inclusive premium plan for 5 out of the 8 days. This was upwards of $1600 out of pocket, which was on top of the actual accommodation cost! What they don't tell you is that tip is included with the all-inclusive plan. With every purchase, you'll receive a receipt and at the bottom, they have a stamp which conveniently covers the "tip is included" verbiage. The all-inclusive plan isn't so ALL-inclusive.
The service from check-in to check-out got progressively worse. Whether at the pool, or in restaurants, it would, on average, take a minimum of 30+ minutes to even be acknowledged. This doesn't even include ordering and then waiting for your order, which would often be wrong.
The property is enormous, and they have golf carts available, but you have to call to reserve. Due to so many issues with check-in, my father had to keep going back and forth to the lobby. On the 3rd time, he was told by staff that he was using the golf cart too much, and other people took priority. Mind you, we were trying to complete check-in and my parents are elderly.
The actual rooms were just OK. It's very clear the money is not spent on upkeep, as there is paint chipping, missing grout or caulk, squeaky doors and faulty AC systems, to name a few. Despite us asking for someone to come fix the AC, it was not fixed and my girls' room was left at a chilling 62 degrees day and night. Also, there are bugs EVERYWHERE! This goes beyond bugs coming in/out from when opening the doors. We had bunches of bugs in the top corners of the rooms, ants everywhere and mosquitoes flying around all of the time. We also had to have someone come to spray. My girls woke up with mosquito bites on their arms and face! My oldest opted to sleep on the pullout sofa, which was disgusting, just to try to escape from the cold and bugs. There are no USB ports in room, so be sure to bring your own chargers. WiFi is spotty, and you have to frequently log on and off the network.
You will be strongly encouraged to complete a timeshare presentation. They tried to sell my parents on a title/deed/vacation for upwards of $230K in some kind of asinine deal where they would purchase part of my parents' timeshare they already had with Marriott. Highway robbery. Even if this was a good deal, the service we experienced would deter me from ever setting foot back here.
Dining options: bring your patience, lower your expectations, expect mistakes and horrific service. Barolo (Italian) was kind of good, though the 2nd time we went, the server asked to do shots with us. He proceeded to add 4 shots of Don Julio tequila on our bill. He drank 2 of them. Mestizo is supposed to be their "fancy" steakhouse. I've grilled myself better steak. The night before we left, they tried to pass of a 12-14oz T-bone off as a porterhouse for 2! We had to explain to the chef what different cuts of meat are! Meals are outrageous in price, too! Despite being on the "plan," you still have to sign. Both times at Mestizo, the totals were $500-$600 USD!
No beach access. You'll need to reserve the shuttle to go to their sister site (15-20 min away). We were in bldg 1, but couldn't use the pool there because we had kids. We had to walk to the family pool daily, which had missing pool decking and tiles. My husband cut his heel - bring bandaids! I can't speak to service at the other pools, but expect none at the family pool. We had wanted to use the kids club, thinking it was included, but it's not. $25/day (9-2pm).
There's more, but I'm running out of room! Do yourself a solid & avoid at all costs.
