First off, Juan was so kind and understanding when we called to inform him we would be arriving shortly after our scheduled time for the tour, which is free! My family and I were so grateful to have made the time to go out and visit Juan and his amazing farm! We went obviously expecting to learn about the cacao plant, and that we did, BUT we did not expect to see that he grows more than that and then share so much more information! Juan was great at channeling his desire to want to share his love and passion for the cacao in Puerto Rico to the world! Truly such a great and warm person, he treated my family and I with so much hospitality! My favorite part were the amazing truffles! I still yearn for the spicy truffle and wish I could’ve bought some at the end but there was not enough. It was special to finally be able to try the plant in its fruit form! I loved learning about the process that it takes to go from seed to sale. Important to note that the entire operation is organic and no chemicals are used in the process. To say the least, it was also very nice of Juan to accommodate our many requests at the end! I highly recommend this tour and I honestly can’t wait to return to La Isla para comprar mas chocolate de JeanMarie Chocolat! Les deseos lo mejor y seguimos aqui! P.s. If you go towards the end of the day, make sure to wear long pants and a long sleeve, or spray yourself with repellant, as the mosquitoes can be aggressive!

I’m so glad I called to book a tour here, thanks to other reviewers’ recommendations! It was very informative, and Juan was a great tour guide. Also, their chocolate is fabulous! The tour was free, but we all purchased chocolate at the end. I love that Juan values employing locals and farming by-hand, when possible.

We stumbled upon this place looking for chocolate tours and glad that we did. Mr.Juan took us through his farm and patiently answered all our questions. He also offered us home made truffles which were so fresh and amazing by the way and we also bought chocolates and cacao powder used for hot choc/cakes etc. We left feeling homely and happy. Highly recommend.

Our group really enjoyed our tour and all the information about Puerto Rican cacao farming in addition to everything else being grown on the site. Thank you so much for having us!

Amazing experience. We learned so much about cultivating chocolate and its history in Puerto Rico. His passion in bringing back cacao farming to the island is inspiring. Juan was an incredible host! (And the chocolate is delicious, too.)

We found out about this place through our Airbnb call, West Indies Carrizal, in Aguada Puerto Rico. We took the drive to visit, but when we arrived, it was closed, but we decided to call the number listed on Google search and the owner Juan answer. He explained to us that he was no longer doing tours, but if someone calls or takes the drive down, he will be grateful to give the tour. Juan was very welcoming, and the place is so amazing and well maintained. You can see the love and dedication that Juan and his family put into their farm. We had a great experience and amazing service from him, and he explained the whole process about cacao and gave us a taste, and showed us everything about it. He didn't even charge us. We still tipped him because we saw the passion he has for his place. We end up buying a lot of the product they sell online. They even have cacao wine. Very passionate and humble. I would definitely recommend visiting if ever in the area. Please call him first before you take the drive, just in case, but you won't regret it.

Beautiful family-owned chocolate farm with kind and generous owners. We passed by the area on a Wednesday, and called them up to see if there are any tours. The owner's daughter explained on the phone that they only have tours on weekends, but as we told them that this is our last day on the island, they agreed to let us come for a free private tour. The owner himself graciously showed us around, and explained how chocolate is harvested and processed. He also showed us many other crops that grow on their farms, from papaya and bread fruit to vanilla. We bought a bunch of goodies (chocolate bars, chocolate beans, chocolate tea, and chocolate wine) that were really good (haven't tried the chocolate wine yet, but looking forward to it!). The owner also gave us a pod of cocoa and a delicious papaya that he just picked from the tree. If you are in the area, i highly recommend visiting this farm, and buying stuff to support the owners.

Juan’s passion and vision for the revitalization of Cacao farming in PR is inspiring. His hacienda is a pure example of Agri-farming. We called the morning of our intended visit, and scheduled an appointment the same afternoon. Highlights included tasting different Cacoa seeds, picking a pineapple growing beneath the Cacao trees (No monocropping here!), and taking some delicious chocolate home with us. This experience was definitely a highlight during our stay in Aguada.
