Wonderful stay - Fantastic restaurant! Historic, modernized property with many accommodation options. Very nice pool too. The restaurant is great… for breakfast (included) or dinner. Tasty recipes, freshly made bread and authentic flavor recipes.

A lovely spot about 45 minutes from the LIR airport. We only stayed one night, but it was really nice. The room had decent ac, high ceilings, and a nice patio with chairs to sit and enjoy looking over the grounds. We saw a couple deer and enjoyed the music of the bugs singing in the evening.

This was a beautifully serene hotel. We loved the huge pool. The room had it all. We even had a really nice meal there. Oh and we enjoyed the numerous deer & agoutis very much. ||You might be wondering why, then, would I leave this poor review. Well I did something foolish: when I was simultaneously making several bookings for hotels, airfare & rental car back in March, I selected the wrong dates for this, and only this, hotel. When I realized my mistake, just a few days before our departure, I totally panicked. But then I figured oh well this is COSTA RICA after all, the land of hospitality & Pura Vida, some of the best customer service in the entire world, surely they will understand. Not at all. They just kept pointing to their policy. And it’s true I did not catch my mistake within 30 days. And ok I did receive an email,|confirmation, but I did not open it. And I understand why hotels need to have policies. But I think they also need to consider EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES. After pleasing my case to them, I ended up having paid for staying a night at La Hacienda when I was NOT EVEN IN THE COUNTRY and then ADFITIONALLY for the correct night when I DID stay there and I had a very nice time. I tried to get in touch with their finance manager to understand if the hotel was booked for that night in March (AKA did they turn away potential guests in March?- doubtful) but the hotel declined to give me that person’s contact information. It’s just a shame that they had many opportunities to take the highroad in this unique situation yet the hotel continued to point to this policy & show little empathy for my story. So when I return to CR I will stay elsewhere and I caution you of this hotel’s rigidity as you determine where to stay.

We LOVED this place. We stayed here before departing from Liberia airport. We stayed in the junior suite, which was super spacious for our family of four. The kids loved having their own beds. The pool was the largest we've seen in Costa Rica (there was also a nice kiddie pool). We loved seeing tons of wildlife right outside our door. The staff was extremely helpful and accommodating. Lastly, the restaurant had some of the best food we've eaten in Costa Rica. Overall, this hotel exceeded expectations.

Enjoyed a 3 nite stay as part of a 10 day birding trip. From the time we came onto the grounds and were greeted with chilled juice 'til we left we were more than pleased with our stay. Our cottage was clean, spacious, and made for good sleeping. The room was a little slow in cooling off but given outside air temps were in the mid-90s such was understandable. Like many lodges in the country no wash cloth. Loads of nature with howler monkeys, agouti, white-tailed deer, iguana, long-nose bats, and a great variety of birds. Even a pair of ferruginous pygmy-owls in a tree near the reception area. The grounds are tastefully decorated with a wide variety of bushes/trees, a small stream and even a little pond. Food was tasty and fresh. Portions were generous. Staff was very pleasant and helpful. We would certainly stay here again.

We very much enjoyed our stay in our cabin in the woods. Our air-conditioned room was beautiful with an old world charm. The pool looked lovely, although we did not have a chance to use it. We were greeted at check-in with an amazing frozen guava/pineapple and fresh peppermint drink. They have a very charming on-site restaurant where we enjoyed breakfast and supper. Don't miss Las Pumas Wildlife Rescue next door to it!

The only thing I would change is the breakfast - it’s the same each day, has no meat and does not vary. ||The grounds are lovely and fun to explore, there are animals throughout the grounds wild, which means you have to watch out for droppings.||The staff were wonderful, super helpful, very flexible - I loved their lending library of books and the suites are incredible for the price. ||The pool is nice, although as it’s in the middle of a flat windy area it is hard to keep it clean so are often leaves and petals across it - it’s also only 1m depth at the minimum making it hard for children to play in it and hard for it to get warm.||We really enjoyed the quiet and solitude and being able to park the car outside our suite, which save walking with heavy bags - not much you could do here without a car though.

We stayed just one night on our way to La Fortuna the first night we arrived in Costa Rica, as soon as we turned off the highway we were greeted with deer and there were many howler monkeys in the trees all around our room. Any time we were outside there deer, monkeys, agouti and many beautiful birds anywhere you looked, it was such an amazing experience. The rooms were very charming with high ceilings with wood beams and a sliding glass door out to your own patio with rocking chairs. There is a very nice large swimming pool and the grounds are very pretty. The restaurant had very good food and the included breakfast was delicious, they make their own bread and jam which was amazing. I would highly recommend staying here, we definitely will stay here again if we are ever back in Costa Rica.
