Vieques, Puerto Rico, Travel Guide

"Sweeping ocean vistas and tropical breezes await at Hacienda Tamarindo, a small but mighty bed-and-breakfast lifted above the shores of southern Vieques. A swimming pool and hearty tropical breakfast are some of the perks of a stay, but the friendly service at this family-focused accommodation is the true highlight." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Beautiful place, wondrous views, wonderful people who work here||This is our third stay and our kids have also stayed. The hacienda is an old mansion on a hill overlooking a long field, where horses graze, and roosters squak, to the sea below, a wondrous turquoise ocean that changes color with the light.|The breakfasts are served on a veranda and offer sumptuous cereal, egged any style, and strong coffee. Great way to start the day. Mayra, oversees every detail, from the pool, a gorgeous one overlooking the sea, to the provision of towels and other amenities. Mayra is totally approachable and helpful in orienting us to where in the island to visit, etc. She’s the queen with the common touch.|The rooms are basic but comfortable. I recommend ones with a king bed, especially if your partner is a kicker. |Our ten day stay was totally relaxing, and we visited gorgeous beaches.

If you're going to Vieques and on the fence about staying here, don't be. This is a "wow" kind of place for an off-the-beaten-path experience. You will not regret this location with its beautiful architecture, friendly staff, not too big or small size, and terrific amenities. Breakfast to order with a featured special each day. To-go lunch, snorkeling gear, sundries (sunblock, etc), and self-serve libations are available. The location is quite close to the black sand beach, the tiny town of Esperanza with a handful of eateries, Esperanza beach, and the bioluminescent lagoon. I rented a car to get around the island, the large town where the ferries dock is about 15 minutes away. Be aware that roads are narrow, road conditions vary a lot, and there are 3,000 wild horses roaming the island. We stayed in a suite, and it was breathtaking, comfortable, and housekeeping was fantastic. For technology, we had good cell service, the hotel has decent WiFi, and there are NO TVs (and that is a plus to me). I am into astronomy and travel with a small telescope that can take long exposures. The location on the Caribbean shore provides ideal viewing with dark skies and no light pollution. I was able to take nice shots of the Eta Carina nebula and the M100 spiral galaxy with my traveling amateur gear. Kayaking in the bioluminescent lagoon is high on the "must do" list of activities. We were graced with an amazing view of a cross-the-sky shooting star from our kayaks in the glowing waters. Our best snorkeling was at Playa Punta Arenas where my son saw a manta ray and two sea turtles.

Beautiful boutique hotel about a mile west of Esperanza. Most rooms have a great ocean view and or patio. Lots of flowers, a nice pool, and their made to order breakfast was nice. They also have a little library with games and an honor bar. We would stay again if we wanted to stay outside of town.

We had a lovely room overlooking the ocean. It was spotless and comfortable. The pool is warm and inviting with comfortable chaises and an area for shaded respite from sunbathing.|The breakfast is included and it is wonderfully cooked and served. Fresh juices, hot coffee, eggs cooked to perfection and wonderful toast.|There is a honor bar with a variety of drinks ranging from rum to cold water. Also on the honor system is chair and umbrella rental for the ocean. |The Hacienda is a quiet refuge in an otherwise unfriendly world.

Google
The hotel is beautiful and has stunning views. There are mosquitos and bugs that may get into your room. They have bug spray and raid available if you need it. The first night our AC broke and we had a pretty tough time sleeping through the heat. They couldn't fix it so they moved us to another room and we were very happy with the service!

We stayed at the Hacienda Tamarindo for 4 days and 4 nights and had an incredible time. Everyone who works there is unbelievably nice and accommodating. It has a great pool, outdoor space, and indoor library for relaxation. Breakfast was a highlight of our stay as well. My wife and I will be staying there again.

Google
Loved staying here. Very clean and comfortable. The breakfast that was included was very good. Pool was amazing. Love the fact that they rented beach chairs and enjoyed their honor system for beverages. Some places were cheaper but this place was so worth it. Very good communications and great referrals for shuttle services and Jeep rental. I would stay here again.

Google
Our stay was wonderful! We loved the ambiance, the attention to detail and the view of the ocean from our room. Check-in was easy and all of the staff were friendly and helpful. We especially loved the mango jam served at breakfast and the option to have a packed lunch made for us so that we could enjoy some beach outings. We hope to come back very soon!

Yelp
So relaxing Accommodating staff Good food Private pool I went blind into this bed and breakfast; first time to Puerto Rico. As always, I conducted a bunch of research, some say too much but they always ask me to find things for them... The name for the Hacienda Tamarindo is derived from Tamarindo trees on the property. If you go to Vieques there is a ferry they run all day. Ticket was two dollars. Vieques is a nature preserve so expect to see horses everywhere on the island. Oh yeah, roosters too. You need a rental car on the island. Well, at least I would recommend one and am glad I had one. There is no way to see the beaches without a vehicle. Hacienda Tamarindo will reserve your rental for you if you ask. Be aware that you may not want to arrive on the island before the rental company opens. If I'm ever on Vieques I will stay at the Hacienda Tamarindo.

Yelp
This was a great place to stay. It's a little older but most the hotels in Vieques are older. The room was clean and comfy with great views of the ocean and wild horses. Lots of kind kitties everywhere Hacienda Tamarindo had some great amenities. - the hotel booked our rental car so it was waiting for us when we got to the hotel - you can request they make lunch for you. When we woke up they had it ready to go in a cooler for us - breakfast is included, it not a buffet either, it's a nice sit down breakfast and they serve you - the pool is open 24/7. It has a cute fountain and again great views of the beach - each room comes with a hard side cooler you can take to the beach. - there is an honor bar where you can make your own drinks - you can rent snorkeling gear, beach chairs and umbrellas from them.

Yelp
Complimentary breakfast at our hotel!! We stayed here, on accident. Last minute realized our reservation at the Vieques Guesthouse was for the wrong date!! So they accommodated us in an emergency! Rooms were clean. Beautiful views. Pool was nice. Only thing preventing 5 stars is because it was so far away from the tours and ferry so we had to call ahead for a taxi constantly to go anywhere! The taxis do not come quickly and their pricing is high(er) for tourists!!

Scott G.

Yelp
What a great place to stay. The best thing about it is their staff. Very professional. Rooms are cleaned perfectly daily. Breakfast meals offer a wide variety to choose. Food is delicious. The views of the Caribbean are spectacular. If you go to Vieques, I would recommend staying at Hotel Tamarindo.

Yelp
We didn't know it when we booked it, Hacienda Tamirindo is on the list of 1000 places to visit before you die. We agree. The staff is exceedingly helpful and caring. The property itself overlooks the Caribbean. As the name implies, it's in a hacienda, but we were not bothered by other guests. Even though our room was off the library, sitting room and bar. The room was spacious with plenty of room for the three of us. We were in #7- the when pigs fly room. Besides being well appointed, it opened right out to the grounds. It was an easy walk to the pool. The pool was sparkling, well maintained and relaxing. It's also open 24 hours, so you can lay out on a float and see the thousands of stars above. Like much of Veiques, horses were abundant and would come right up to the property. Breakfast was included on our package. It was a nice ala crate menu and was tasty. Access to the Caribbean is the only downside. There is no easy way to get to the beach. Overall a great stay.

Yelp
Enjoyed lovely mornings and relaxing nights at Hacienda Tamarindo! We were greeted with vivid sunrises and a perfect view of the ocean and little islands from our balcony, followed by simple but delicious breakfasts with fresh fruit and juice every day. The honor system for the bar and sport rental shop worked out great. We were able to get fresh new towels and chairs for the beach for free, and rented out snorkel sets. One night, we 'signed out' a few beers and enjoyed them at the pool under the stars. I highly recommend Hacienda Tamarindo for a couple's stay in Vieques!

Isabel C.

Yelp
Excellent boutique hotel. Staff is very friendly and all the recommendations for tours/activities were great.

Yelp
Not sure if it was the woman I was with, the beautiful room, the parrot and the tree in the lobby, the friendly staff, the views...I could go on. I will say I know why couples honeymoon here. 5* top noch. "Nuff said" as they say. Highly recommended.

Yelp
A charming inn overlooking the ocean and Esperanza harbor, Hacienda Tamarindo is a true gem. It has an old-world vibe without feeling tired, and its longtime owners Linda and Burr, who often join the hearty, made-to-order breakfast on the patio, provide a personal touch that adds to its intimacy. (They've also got good tips on restaurants and things to do.) Our second-floor room was bright and breezy, with a view of the water. The bed and linens were super comfortable. The shower was slightly dated, but water power was good and there was plenty of hot water, which is ultimately all I care about after a day at the beach. Though we didn't use it, the pool area and hammock in the side year looked like a lovely place to relax. Since we're more beach goers, we were quite appreciative of the honor beach "store" - more like a pantry of beach supplies - where you can rent beach chairs, umbrellas and snorkel gear and purchase suntan lotion. Our favorite amenity, though, was the full honor bar, where we'd make evening cocktails to take to the balcony while we watched the sun set. We always rent a car because we like to go to various beaches across the island, but Hacienda Tamarindo is close enough to Esperanza that you could walk or take a taxi in for dinner, and it's also walking distance from Black Sand Beach. Esperanza is back to its lively self and has a range of restaurants from pubs to upscale. Before Hurricane Maria, we came to Vieques every year and stayed at the W. With the W still closed, we hadn't been back but finally decided we didn't want to wait and booked 4 nights at Hacienda Tamarindo in March. I am happy to say that even if the W reopens, we are converts to Hacienda Tamarindo - we booked for next year when we checked out!

Yelp
Great boutique hotel. Small and very accommodating. Staff was super friendly and always willing to help in anyway. Had great recommendations for local restaurants, things to do, and attractions. Views are incredible, and complementary breakfast was delicious. Close to town so location was ideal. If you were looking for a small and authentic experience, this is the place!

Yelp
Hacienda Tamarindo is a cute, slightly remote/rustic place to stay on Vieques island. Pros: - amazing/responsive staff (A/C in the room broke after hours and we were re-roomed in a matter of minutes) - comfortable accom - coolers for free to take to the beach! - close to Esperanza (~a mile) - any beach gear you could want available for rent Cons: - have to take a taxi to Esperanza in the evening for safety - wifi didn't work in the rooms - honor bar is overpriced for being self-serve (granted you can just buy your own and bring it in) - no direct beach access, although the W at $500+/night seems to be the only hotel with this Overall, cute place. Would stay again!

Yelp
This is a GREAT place to stay! It is a very unique bed and breakfast with a beautiful view of the ocean. The pool was great with two hammocks in the area and we enjoyed a drink from the "honor bar" where you make your own drink and charge it to your room. The breakfast in the morning was very nice and they allow you to purchase a packed lunch provided in a cooler that you can take with you on your adventure. We loved this place and wished we could have stayed longer.

Emily H.

Yelp
We stayed at Hacienda Tamarindo on our honeymoon and it was amazing! The location was perfect, just up the road from Esperanza and our room was beautiful, with clear views of the water. The service was amazing as were the amenities - we used the pool and hammocks multiple times during our four day trip. We also utilized both the honor bar and the beach equipment and enjoyed the delicious breakfast every morning on the patio. And on our last full day there we woke up to the charming sight of a herd of horses drinking from the fountain at the front of the hotel. Vieques is beautiful and well worth a visit, and if you go, definitely stay at Hacienda Tamarindo!

Yelp
My husband and I visited for our anniversary and fell in love with the hotel. The owners and staff were very nice and super helpful. They helped us make arrangements for travel off the island and gave us great suggestions on places to visit. The room was exactly as described and we didn't want to leave. The shower was great and the king bed was super comfy, one of the best nights sleep ever. We would have loved to stay longer and can't wait to plan our return visit.

Yelp
Have been here several times and I cannot recommend it enough. This is a lovely B&B that is comfortable and beautiful. The cafeteria is decorated in a classic style. I'll post pictures so you can see what I mean. The lobby was built around a tree, which contributes to the charm. The room I stayed in was comfortable and spacious. The only negative was the shower looked a bit dirty last time I went there... but I don't care much about that, I'm judging the place overall. I think they only have showers in the rooms, no bathtubs, but you can ask. Go to Vieques!

Yelp
My trip to PR is one of my favourites anywhere, and a large part of that is due to Hacienda Tamarindo. This place just makes you feel good. There is a bar downstairs that goes by the honour system. I paid for every single beer that I drank, but I like the fact that they trust you. They give you a cooler for your drinks during the day, which you can take to the beach... that is very thoughtful of them. The view is amazing. Our room had a tiny balcony that opens up to the ocean. It really is an amazing place. It is a quiet place however, so if you're looking to party, then maybe choose somewhere else. Or don't even go to Vieques in the first place. I recommend this place to couples. I had an amazing time. Derek

Yelp
This place was an amazing experience, from the beautiful scenery and location to the lovely staff! We even met the owners while enjoying the pool. Burr (owner) came up and introduced himself to us and his lovely wife. This really was an island escape! Me and my fiancée came here to celebrate our engagement just the two of us and I am so fortunate to have had such a beautiful place to start our memories in. I highly recommend it if you are looking for an island paradise away from your daily routine.

Yelp
Wow Talk about a pearl in the sea. This place in so awesome. The rustic decorations is just out standing. The honor bar is to die for. The free breakfast served to the table is better than any 4 star hotel. The fresh fruit and stuffed french toast were really good. The owners Linda was super nice. I was a walk on on a Sunday which I was stuck on the island because the Ferries were canceled. She answered my call immediately and found me a room. Everything was just great.

Yelp
We loved our stay at Hacienda Tamarindo. Rooms were comfortable and private. The room we stayed in, number 4, had a great view and pleasant breeze. If it gets too warm, there is an AC unit. The staff is very accomodating and will offer advice/directions to great beaches and sites. The breakfast is was one of my favorite parts of the day. The coffee was great and the food was some of the best we had on Vieques. As for location, I like that this place was a short drive to the nightlife in Esperanza (which has the only nightlife on the island), yet far enough away to be peaceful. No beaches are really accessible from the hotel, but all are within a short drive. Make sure to book your jeep in advance. The hotel has beach towels, coolers and chairs for your use.

Yelp
5 reasons why you must stay here: 1. The property is beautiful. The rooms are very comfortable and wonderful views of the ocean. Located in the better part of Vieques -Esperanza (vs Isabel) 2. The breakfast . It is made to order and is very delicious. If I had to give only one reason, it would be the breakfast. Do not miss it ! 3. The staff- right from the manager to the breakfast people are very warm and friendly. 4. The quirky decor- The owners have certainly taken the pain to add curios which are witty and sometimes eccentric. Makes for fun times while touring the property. 5. Location- Very close to bio bay tours and a bunch of eating options just a few blocks away. Its a unique experience in one of the most beautiful islands on this planet. Would highly recommend.
google avatar

Alex H.

Yelp
Great place to stay with superb view and great breakfast. swimming pool is really nice esperanza is the best place to be on Vieques for sure and the hotel in 5 min drive to the town. Book a dinner at El Quenepo, the best restaurant in Vieques, 5 min from there. room was isolated from the main building which gives more privacy, however, it was slightly expensive for the stay. I would recommend it though because other hotels or B&B did not look as nice as Hacienda Tamarindo
google avatar

Lynn M.

Yelp
While this was a wonderful place to stay, I feel that it, like everything on Vieques, was very overpriced. I will also warn you to not get a rental, which will be recommended by the staff at Hacienda Tamarindo; just use the bus service, as you can call them and they will pick you up and take you wherever you want to go for far less than the price of a rental car. This poor advice is the only reason I would consider giving this place 4 stars, as everything else was beyond expectaction. The owners of this place are wonderful people; very friendly and always willing to dole out advice. Zach (whom I believe is an Old English Sheepdog) is one of the sweetest pups I've ever met! He even followed me around for a bit, until his dad called him away. Breakfast there is a must, as the food is delicious and made from scratch. We hardly needed to leave the hotel, save for going on the biobay tour (another must, but you can just walk to the tour at the end of the road, which we did) and out for supper. The view of the ocean from the rooms is spectacular, so I would definitely recommend getting one of the seaside rooms. You can even see the horse pastures from your window! Overall, fantastic (if really expensive).

Chris M.

Yelp
My family and I have been going to Viesques for 23 years. The last five staying at the Hacienda Tamarindo. The Hacienda Tamarindo is the perfect compliment to the natural beauty and laid back charm of Viesques. Our hosts, Burr and Linda have created a gracious, old world inn that caters to all your needs. Set above the water with spectacular views, the inn features delicious breakfasts, beautiful pool and lovely rooms. The staff is friendly and helpful. And booking directly with the HT ensures the best stay.

Yelp
Had a wonderful three day stay here. The rooms were rustic but extremely comfortable and very spacious. Blue Horizons next door is a great restaurant for lunch or dinner. The staff at Hacienda were amazing. They were very helpful and accommodating. When we had to leave earlier than the scheduled breakfast time, the cooks made us breakfast early so we could catch our flight over to Culebra. Pool was great and location is convenient to everything if you rent a Jeep at the airport or as we did just take the local taxi (ask for Diego!).

Yelp
Everything was wonderful, the room, the bed, the pillows...and the breakfast was outstanding!!! Don't forget to ask for a smoothie! I recommend this boutique hotel
google avatar

Karen S.

Yelp
Hacienda Tamarindo exceeded all of my expectations. We got the cheapest room available, so I was expecting subpar views and an inconvenient location within the hotel. Small price to pay for being cheap. However, even the budget rooms have fantastic views, and because the resort is small, there are no "inconvenient" locations. Room was huge, everything was exceptionally clean, the entire staff was very pleasant and helpful, and the atmosphere top-notch. Breakfast was tasty and substantial. There are tons of extras available. You get a complimentary folding chair with your visit to use at the beach, and can rent a lounge one as well for extra. There is a pool and plenty of places on the grounds to relax and kick back that have great views of the ocean and a field where the wild horses graze. The hotel is a couple kilometers away from the main part of town so you don't have to listen to the bar noises, and can enjoy the birds chirping. The car rental is a must, and I would suggest letting the Hacienda Tamarindo staff setting it up for you. It's pricey, but a 4x4 Jeep Wrangler is essential to fully enjoy the island. Don't be afraid to take it to some crazy places, that's what it's there for! If I visit Vieques again, I will definitely be staying hat the Hacienda Tamarindo again.

Yelp
Yes. YES!!! This place was well worth the splurge. I did so much research on where to stay, and decided that Hacienda Tamarindo was worth stretching the budget. It also helped that they were willing to let us book for 1 night due to some poor planning on my part. If you go, stay 2 at least. We booked the cheapest room, the "standard," because we didn't expect to stay too much time there. Booking was easy online, and they also arranged a Jeep rental for us, for a cheaper rate than I found online for the rental agencies. The car rental place came to pick us up at Tamarindo too. The location is wonderful - right outside Esperanza, which is by far nicer than Isabel II, the other town where the ferry and airport are located. Rent a Jeep. It's worth it. Very close to the bio bay pick ups and also lots of restaurants to choose from. We arrived and checked in by the friendly owner. The manager took us on a tour of the facility and explained how the honor system worked for food and drink, plus other equipment that they have available, like snorkels, suntan lotion, etc. It's easy: you take what you want and record it, and pay the bill at the end. They have a full bar and cold waters, sodas, juices and beer. They also have an awesome service where you can get a menu and order a cooler of lunch for the next day. We took advantage of this and found it to be well worth the $10 a person. You can choose a sandwich or cheese with crackers and veggies, plus fruit, chips and cookies. There are a couple vegetarian options. You pick up your labeled backpack cooler the next day and take it to the beach. Very easy and cheaper than things you'd find on the island, not to mention convenient when you're just on the beach and want to snack! Our room was a good size, with a wall of windows with blinds that open to let the air in. There was also a ceiling fan and a fan on the floor. We were more than cool enough at night. The bed was very comfortable. The only complaint I have is that our room was right outside the dining area for breakfast, and the door is literally blinds, so not being solid, we could hear the kitchen clanging early, and people dining. We didn't mind so much because we wanted to get up to take advantage of our day, but it's something to take into consideration. Not all rooms are located there but several are, so if it will bother you, make sure you ask when you book. Speaking of breakfast, the breakfast here increases the value of staying here a lot. It is like a restaurant! You get a menu and can order whatever you want, and how much you want. They always have eggs, fruit, toast, English muffins, hash browns, and a huge variety of fresh fruit juices. Plus specials - the day we were there, it was pancakes with nuts and cranberries. I had that, pineapple juice, canteloupe, English muffin and hash browns. After all, I wanted to take advantage of this! My husband had all of that PLUS an omelet and sausage! It was all delicious. The grounds are gorgeous and the scenery picturesque. Sweeping views of the sea and lots of greenery! It's high on a hill so the views were amazing. The pool was also very nice, with these same views. Oh, and no small kids or babies are allowed, making it very peaceful! We'd definitely stay here again.

Yelp
This is how every one should see Vieques. Hacienda Tamarindo is a beautiful bed and breakfast just west of Esparanza on route 997. It's isolated from the main strip of restaurants, so all you hear is nature's sounds. The view is breathtaking! The breakfast is perfect: assortment of fresh juices, fresh fruit, eggs, potatoes, and more rounds out a very hearty and satisfying breakfast. The B&B provides every thing you need to a fun day at the beach: beach towels, beach chairs, a cooler. They sell on site any thing you might have forgotten like mosquito repellant or sunscreen. The owners and staff have truly anticipated all your needs. There are just a few cons keeping it from being 5 stars for me. It's not walking distance to the beach. You can see the water, but there's no easy route down to it. The office is closed pretty early in the evening, so you will need to plan ahead if you need to talk to a staff member at night. I truly enjoyed my stay, and I seriously wish I could live here forever...

Yelp
Hands down the 2nd best thing about my trip to Vieques (the 1st was a midnight swim in Mosquito Bay, which is easily one of the coolest experiences on Earth). Hacienda Tamarindo is brimming with charm and made us feel so relaxed from the second we arrived. Even the smallest room is incredibly spacious and well-appointed - I can only imagine what the premium suite looks like! Loved the views, the resident dog (a big, shaggy fella named Zach), the delicious breakfasts (complimentary), and the library. My boyfriend was particularly keen on the honor bar. :-P And the staff was laid-back and helpful. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Definitely recommend this place. We learned that we were there in low season, so the whole island was relatively quiet (according to the locals). Not an issue though. They upgraded our room since it was quiet. Beautiful two room suite with its own balcony looking down to water. Great breakfast to get you well into the day. Ivan and Theresa are great resources with tips on spots to visit, eat, etc. The pictures online do not do the place justice. Like all places on the island, it looks more rustic from outside, but that is Vieques. Tamarindo all feels very comfortable and welcoming. Honor bar, library, pool. The tamarind tree in the center is a cool feature. Zachary is a great mascot (the sheepdog). Being near Esperanza is a good center on the island. A nicer area than the larger Isabel II on north shore. We plan to return!

Yelp
Great place to stay in Vieques! Only regret is we didn't stay longer. Wonderful breakfasts - don't skip it; it's the most important meal of the day, after all.

Yelp
I have stayed at Hacienda Tamarindo several times, usually in Room 8 or Casita Linda. I love it! The hotel is lovely and comfortable. Located on the desirable south side of the island, just a mile from the buzz of Esperanza, it is a private and intimate setting perfect for relaxation. It's a quick drive to both Black Sands beach and Sun Bay. I also love to walk on Playa Grande in the mornings. The lush landscaping and the view of Esperanza cays from the pool is unmatched. There is a herd of horses and colts thats roams the meadow adjacent to the property. The rooms are crisp and well cleaned with very comfortable beds. The style is homey, think mediterranean mixed with a country inn. The wifi is free, but is best in the library, it can be spotty in the rooms. All of the staff is stellar, they are Vieques locals and bring a wealth of knowledge and realness to the Vieques experience. The breakfast is under the shade of the 350-year-old tamarind tree that the hotel is named for, accented by finches and attentive service from the ladies in the kitchen. It's cooked to order and you can get whatever you like, eggs any style and a daily special. Like pretty much every hotel in Vieques, you need a car to take advantage of the beautiful beaches, which are all located at the ends of the island in the wildlife reserves. But your room is equipped with a cooler, pick up a six-pack of Medalla from the library, and the little rentals shop has the all the snorkel equipment, umbrellas, beach chairs, and sunscreen to keep you cool and entertained on your excursions. When you get back, make yourself a drink from the honor bar and enjoy the stunning treetop view from the lobby terrace! We'll be back! Vieques is full of great food, people, and natural activities, and Hacienda is a great base to experience the Vieques Magic.

Yelp
A wonderful place to call home in Vieques. Great location, gorgeous grounds and architecture, very friendly staff. Each room is unique and very well kept. Drinks, snacks, and beach rental equipment all on the honor system. Very laid back place to say the least. We would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
Best hotel in vieques! Been here about 3 times now and it is the Only place i will ever stay at in vieques, great staff great breakfast great rooms this place is perfect dont know what else to say!

Yelp
What a delight! It's unique, the staff is friendly, the rooms and view are beautiful. Located on a hill overlooking the sea with a pleasant breeze, and nearby Esperanza restaurants and many beautiful beaches. It's a boutique hotel. Not for those looking for a standard, consistent, and well manicured experience; nothing wrong with that it's just not that kind of place, go to W instead. Amenities include short drives to beaches, beach and snorkeling equipment for the day, take-one-leave-one book exchange, honor system bar, lunch box option, great pool, delicious full and varied breakfast. oh, and the lobby is built around a 250 y.o. tamarind tree!

Yelp
We absolutely loved this place. The manager there helped us when travelocity messed up our reservation. Luckily she still had space for us. Had the feel of a bed and breakfast. She gave us directions to a private beach which they don't sell very well because it's more like small rocks mixed in the sand. We spent a lot of time down there and when we got tired of the rocks we walked 2 minutes down the beach to a sandy beach. We walked down the beach to Esperanza with no need for a taxi or scooter. Hank the sheep dog was great to have around, breakfast was good, and the views are amazing. Spent the evenings at the pool looking over towards the beach with horses in the field. Only thing I didn't like as much was there's a lot of bugs on this island. Most of the places here it's to be expected. I have Hacienda Tamarindo five stars because they addressed that and provided you with spray. I love the late night check out system of food, drinks, etc. thanks for taking care of us there. We loved it.

Yelp
Decided to stay here with my girlfriend for a night so that we could see the biobay. I spent about 245$ for one of the nicer rooms. The room was small, had a balcony with a nice view but it was on the same floor as the office and the main walkway to the pool. With doors that were made with slats which I would normally appreciate, but basically we were in the main walkway so we heard all the guests coming and going and they could hear us. Not really a private, romantic setup as we had hoped. The shower had soap and shampoo dispensers on the wall a la public bathroom style which I would expect in a $20 a night room dive not a 200$+ room on an island. However that being said the staff, especially the manager (whose name I didn't get, stupid me) and the owner were EXTREMELY helpful and kind. So it almost made up for the lack of some basic amenities. They even were so kind as to help us when the ferry (which apparently according to locals is broken a lot) broke and we had to go on the cargo ferry which they(the ferry staff) said would not be possible for us to ride on until about 2 hours after we were supposed to get tickets for the main ferry. Long story short we waited it out and go aboard, calling the hotel with status updates the entire time which they even gave us the number of preferred airlines to get over to vieques in case we couldn't make it on the ferry. So all in all like most things on this Puerto Rican trip a mixed bag. I would say skip the higher priced rooms, go with the cheaper one, bring your own shampoo and plan on renting a jeep. At this hotel you will get one of the best views I saw on the entire island, a 24hour pool and hammock and a short 20 minute walk to a secluded beach. Also I forgot to mention the breakfast is pretty good and the coffee was tasty. All in all I would come here again, just maybe spend a little less money.

Yelp
I spent many hours researching on where to stay in our short one night stay in Vieques Island. Thank you to fellow yelpers, all reviews were spot on for Hacienda Tamarindo. It's not cheap, but definately worth every penny. It is walking distance to the Biobay tour. You are greeted by friendly staff, Tanya had a huge smile and offered great information from the very minute we met her. They make you feel like you are at a getaway home. Honor bar was a hit, they have cold waters, sodas, and full bar; just write down whatever you helped yourself too. Also, a plus was an air-conditioned library stocked with a variety of books and checkerboard. We stayed in #3, a room with french doors opening up to an oceanfront view. Great size, relaxing, and clean. Scuba gear, chair, and beach umbrellas are also available for renting at a very reasonable price, again honor system. They are very accomodating to your needs. We checked out by 11, but wanted to spend our last few hours on the island at the beaches, so they let you come back to the hotel and shower in these guests showers before you head out to catch the plane. Oh and yes, you get a full breakfast that is made to order included with you stay; we had the daily special of eggs benedict, with a side of bacon, tamarind juice, and fresh fruit. Staying at Tamarindo hacienda was really quite a treat. Will not stay anywhere else.

Yelp
You can get breakfast here as a non-guest, and it is well worth it. Best breakfast on the island. You need to call in advance to make it happen. Simple options, and made-to-order. Great coffee, and some of the few places with fruit with the meal (produce is expensive and hard to get on the island).
