Hacienda Temozon (Temozon Sur, Yucatan Peninsula) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Located in the heart of the Mayan country of the Yucatán peninsula, the Hacienda Temozon is an authentic 19th-century hacienda, a family-owned farming operation converted into a luxurious hotel that’s at once big and small — with just 28 rooms, it’s intimate, but the rooms themselves are massive, with 18-foot ceilings, and the hotel sprawls over the compound’s grounds, taking in gardens, open spaces and even a 17th-century chapel." - Tablet Hotels

A beautiful property with wonderful staff — but in urgent need of investment This is a tricky review to write because the hacienda itself is undeniably impressive and the staff is genuinely warm, welcoming, and eager to help. I want to thank them sincerely for their hospitality and for doing their best to accommodate us. That said, my experience was far removed from the glowing reviews I had read, to the point where I questioned whether many of those commenters had actually stayed overnight. At $500 per night — in a remote location — Hacienda Temozón simply does not meet the standard one would expect. The rooms are spacious and architecturally beautiful, but uncomfortable, with no views at all (windows are placed about two meters high). There is no peaceful place to truly relax. The swimming pool, while photogenic, was not clean, and service was overstretched — one staff member had to carry all four requested towels and sunbed cushions alone, which took about 20 minutes. Most disappointing was the dinner, which we had to send back entirely — a first for me in decades of frequent travel (30–40 hotels a year). We are not particularly demanding diners, but the food was simply inedible. We had booked three nights but checked out after one, leaving early the next morning with a genuine sense of waste. IHG has recently taken over, and my advice is clear: either invest significantly to bring the property up to true luxury standards, or reposition it as an “authentic charm” hotel at a much lower price point for guests willing to trade comfort for rustic character. There is no middle ground if Temozón is to become a true “must-stay” destination. To the staff — you are the best part of this property, and I wish you every success.

To say this place is magical would be an understatement. It's one of those rare destinations you absolutely must experience in your lifetime. Staying here feels like stepping back into the 19th century—surrounded by historic charm, yet thoughtfully enhanced with modern comforts that make the experience truly exceptional. This landmark property is run by warm, welcoming locals who make you feel like part of their community, even if just for a short while. It’s also one of the safest places I’ve stayed in Mexico, which added even more peace of mind. The staff is incredibly friendly, and the rooms are enormous—ours was at least 1,000 square feet, complete with an outdoor jacuzzi. The high ceilings, vintage decor, and attention to detail made the space feel grand and cozy at the same time. Service-wise, it rivals top-tier hospitality brands like the Ritz-Carlton, Six Senses, Regent, and Kimpton. The gourmet food was beautifully presented and perfectly priced. Overall, it fulfilled my dream of what staying at a Mexican hacienda should be. A couple of suggestions that could elevate the experience even further: adding a wooden path would make the grounds more accessible for elderly guests and help staff move more efficiently. Also, it would be amazing to have access to the two cenotes on the property—they would be unforgettable additions to an already incredible stay. Some of the standout staff who made our stay truly exceptional were Rudy, our attentive waiter; Cindy, the wonderful front desk receptionist; and Neidi, the hotel’s longest-serving employee, whose warmth and experience truly shined.

Hacienda Temozón is a GEM and possibly one of the best hotels I've stayed at in Mexico. My wife and I spent one night here on a short visit from Mérida, using a free night certificate from my Chase IHG credit card.||Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed with cool towels and refreshing glasses of ice cold jamaica juice.||The hacienda itself is incredible - beautiful colonial buildings that have been fully restored, a gorgeous swimming pool with shaded lounge areas, and stunning grounds. Our suite was luxurious, featuring a very comfortable king size bed, a spacious bathroom with shower and a separate tub, cable TV, a minibar, outdoor hot tub, and as an IHG platinum member we were provided with thoughtful touches of complimentary bottles of mineral water and a basket of fresh watermelon, cantaloupe, and chocolates. We also appreciated the high-quality soaps and bath products. ||After returning to our room from dinner, we were delighted to find a small surprise - slices of chocolate cake and a carafe of water, a nice touch that made our stay feel even more special.||The food at the on-site restaurant was excellent, and the service was top notch.||The hacienda is in the middle of nowhere. There isn’t much else to do in the immediate area, so bring a book, unplug, and prepare to relax.

This is an incredible hotel. |It’s like real old school, Mexico. |It’s probably the most authentic place we went to in Mexico. Really, really fantastic. But do avoid the rooms in the old stables as they look a bit dark. The pool is gorgeous and the location really interesting.

Such cute place to stay. Food was amazing here. The facilities, a bit dilapidated but very charming. Staff were sooooo wonderful, felt like staying with gracious family. The turn down service snacks were adorable. Location was great. We are coming back

Prime Resort in an original Mexican Hacienda built originally about 400 years ago.|The place was used to produce Sisal fibres of plants. The old machinery, including a steam engine, are still there to be seen during some free tours.|Hotel rooms are first class, very high rooms, incredible spacy with warm interior out of an expensive country style design catalogue. |Worth a longer stroll is the extensive garden around the property and the pool/SPA area which offers good views to the Hacienda’s buildings and the old Sisal production machines.|The true burner, however, is the Restaurant which offers a good selection of local foods as good as it is only availabe in CDMX best restaurants.|Also very positive are the motivated people working there.

i did not have the pleasure of staying here but someday i will as its an absolutely beautiful property. i went here for lunch, that had a gorgeous view of the pool. the food was out of this world. yucatán flavours and dishes, and everything made from scratch including the corn tortillas. i had the ceviche to start, along with the poc chuc, and finished it with a chocolate cake with cinnamon ice cream. i could not have had a better meal. i highly recommend this restaurant if you have access to a vehicle, as the only con is that the resort is quite remote.

This place is so cool it's ridiculous. I'm never sure why there aren't more guests but having the staff working almost for yourself alone is part of the charm. The crazy thing about this particular one of the haciendas is that the food is also world class. Pro tip: don't miss the steam engine and note that the boiler is being lifted out of the old boiler room by the tree that grew under it. The boiler is so big that your mind might miss what it's really going on with it.
