Yesterday I visited Haddon Hall for the first time during the Christmas event, and I must say I absolutely loved it. The decorations were beautiful, and the building itself, with all its history, is truly amazing. The only slight disappointment was that, for the price, I expected a bit more to see — especially compared to other historic halls where you can also walk around the grounds. The entire building took me around 30 minutes to explore, and I ended up walking through it twice.

Husband and I went to the incredible Haddon Hall for their yearly Mercatum Artisan Christmas Market. What an amazing place, so atmospheric with the weather being -4, frosty, misty, freezing cold. So festive! Warmed ourselves in front of the huge fire in the great hall. Lovely artisan stalls walking up to the hall and throughout the hall and gardens. Parked no problems, we did get there nice and early (we had a morning slot) - friendly parking staff on hand for any issues. We even had time for a bacon butty and cuppa in the cafe - yummy! What a lovely way to spend a festive morning, can’t recommend highly enough.

Visited as part of a pre-booked Christmas afternoon tea and Candlelight Tour experience. The afternoon tea was good and we ended up taking leftovers home as couldn't eat everything. The tour was enjoyable too and we had a friendly and knowledgeable guide, and it was lovely seeing the Hall decorated for Christmas. There are two reasons, that I am not awarding 5 stars. First, too many people were packed into the restaurant for the afternoon tea and it felt cramped. I had booked as a birthday present for my Mother but rather than have a table for two, we had to share with others. Having booked Christmas afternoon teas at other similar places including Belvior Castle and Chatsworth, this certainly wasn't expected especially with the price paid. Secondly, although our tour guide encouraged us to revisit the parts of the Hall, after our tour was over, at our own pace, another guide with a later tour, seemed to be annoyed at finding visitors still around. We, as paying guests, didn't need to hear her complain about this and feel that we had overstayed our welcome! There are lots of steps and uneven surfaces so not the place to wear heels and those with mobility issues may need assistance.

I visited the Haddon Hall Christmas Market for the first time this year. I must say it’s my new Christmas favourite❤️ The day couldn’t have been more perfect, and we were lucky with the weather too! Car parking was across the road from the estate, but it was well organised and straightforward. We were glad that numbers are limited (ticketed event), as it would take away its charm if too busy. I absolutely loved the attention to detail with the decorations, and the estate itself is absolutely stunning! (Not great for anyone with limited mobility or with a pram). Can’t wait to go back in the new year and do a proper tour and learn about its history. An absolute must see if you’re planning a visit to the area 🥰

Very nice Christmas markets visit. The hall was beautifully decorated inside and out with lots of interesting stalls to see and buy from. A little limited in the food options compared to Chatsworth but I liked the smaller scale and a hall itself.

A beautifully renovated medieval manor house hosting a delightfully styled exhibition about Elizabethan connections to magic and mature, informed, educating and entertaining. The beautifully designed gardens are a pleasure to walk around and the host volunteers are friendly and welcoming. There is a lovely restaurant on site, best to book in advance as it's popular. A experience, highly recommended

Really interesting place with lots to explore..! I went to see the current exhibition about magic and superstition its very cool! Beautiful gardens and stunning scenery too. Lots of uneven floors and steps so not great for people with mobility issues and I wouldn't fancy taking a pram..parking is charged extra so be prepared for that. Highly recommend 👌

Google
It's a smallish medieval country house which is an independent business compared to those often operated by the National Trust. It's quite interesting architecturally but there's not a whole lot to see yet admission prices are quite high. We went whilst they had a theme on Magic and Superstition which was reasonably interesting if quite condensed. The cafe wasn't bad with a decent selection of food and drink offerings Make sure you are steady on your feet as there are significant amounts of uneven floors and stairs

Yelp
Haddon Hall is a large, grand, and very interesting manor house near Bakewell, England. Part of it is kept private but a large portion of the hall and ground are open to the public, with a restaurant on the premises in the old carriage house. The buildings include sections from many different periods, from the late 12th century to the mid 17th century and the portions open to the public include the kitchen area, banquet hall, and other sections, plus portions of the grounds and walled garden. This is also a must-see site for those interesting in filming locations since many films and television shows have had scenes filmed here. This is particularly true for fans of The Princess Bride, with many scenes being filmed in the hall and on the grounds, all very recognisable. More scenes wre filmed in the general area as well. At Christmastime, it is heavily decorated and there is choir singing in the hall.

Yelp
This place was absolutely awesome! Such history and inspiration for the imagination here! And if you're any sort of period-piece movie fan, you MUST come here! You'll recognize parts of this castle (or mansion? Lol) IMMEDIATELY! They filmed parts of movies here like Princess Bride, Mary Queen of Scots, The King and the more recent adaptation of Jane Eyre with Michael Fassbender! It was so lovely all decorated for Christmas as well...they even had a bell-ringer concert going when we arrived! I can't say enough about how much I enjoyed my visit here! Parking is directly across the street and they have an easy crossing and walk up to the site. The parking lot can be muddy and they do charge you about 3gbp to park.

Yelp
To be honest, Haddon Hall almost didn't make our itinerary. However, a local friend suggested we should not miss it, particularly as huge Princess Bride fans. I must admit I was beyond excited to learn it was filmed here and to recognize so many parts of the building and grounds from the film. It was also used for the 2005 version of Pride and Prejudice. Beyond that, it's an amazing location and home. I found the frescos in the chapel particularly fascinating. The entire history of the building is quite interesting and it's remarkable that the house sat empty for about 200 years. We arrived to minimal crowds and pretty much had free run of the place, plenty of time to enjoy each room/garden. Afterwards, we had a tasty lunch in the converted stable cafe. Of note... there are migrating swallows in the restrooms that require the main doors to remain open. The management leaves a polite note on the door about it. Very thoughtful.

Yelp
A prime example of a medieval manor house (12th century) this place has such a feel of peace and contentment about it. Garden walls covered in passionflower..Elizabethan terraced gardens and the house itself..nestled in the Peak district. Caused a bit of a stir here. Was with an eminent archeologist (been on Time Team) and some students. My friend and I noticed some huge door hinges of some age inside a fireplace. We wandered round the back of it and it was just a small room on the outside of the building. We wondered if the room was an addition. We got our archeologist, who got some Haddon staff, and for an hour we debated this..Haddon staff got out plans etc..after a while my friend and I got bored and went for coffee (in the lovely tea room) feeling we had done our bit (silly smirk). There is a Sheela na Gig above a stable door which is quite naughty (look it up). Haddon Hall has provided locations for a number of major films including Franco Zeffirelli's Jane Eyre and the television productions Moll Flanders, The Prince and the Pauper, Shakur Kapur's Elizabeth and most recently was transformed into the Lampton Inn for Pride & Prejudice. Costs about £8-9 to get in but is a really lovely place.

Yelp
What a lovely place. History, mystery, beautiful gardens, well preserved home and chapel. The docents are fantastic and full of knowledge. Popular filming location as well. Don't forget to book afternoon tea, it is delicious. A must for your itinerary when in the area.

Yelp
Recommended to us by the Inn we were staying in, and I sure am glad we went. Solid amount of information to guide yourself on your own tour, and the views from the garden (both towards the house and towards the fields) are breathtaking. The house itself is stunning, and although there was a steady stream of visitors, there were still moments where I was able to be the only one in a room- a wonderful feeling coming from busy days at other castles and manors.

Yelp
Historic house - with gardens cafe, gift shop etc. Interesting but fairly expensive (I think we paid £8 entry plus £1 to park). Various films/television programmes were filmed here.

Yelp
Yet another fine house to visit in Derbyshire. This 12th centry house is well worth a visit, marvel at the elizabethan splender.Visit the herb garden to complete your day.Parking is on the opposite side of the road to the house, be carefull when crossing it is a busy road.

Yelp
My first time to Derbyshire, Haddon Hall made it well worth it. The views from the vast English garden were breathtaking. The garden itself was immaculate. Kevin Lowe the welcome host was extremely personable. He walked my friend and I around the Hall a bit then into the garden. Kevin told us the history of the Hall and a cute story about how one of the daughters snuck out of the small door in the garden to run away and marry her true love. Of course Kevin tells it much better than I. Each person we came in contact with was polite and helpful. I highly recommend any visitor to make the trek through the English countryside to visit Haddon Hall. Please look for Kevin and be sure to get the stories from him. He is a wealth of knowledge.

Yelp
Absolutely beautiful building, and the guides throughout the rooms were very informative. The gardens were also gorgeous. There are great little plaques around the Hall talking about what the rooms were traditionally used for and what the family uses them for now, which is a really interesting dichotomy to read about.
