12 Best Beaches on Kauai

"Located on the North Shore between the Kalalau trailhead and nearby reef beaches, this picturesque shore is dominated by Mount Makana (Bali Hai) rising above a lush backdrop; gentle waves and abundant marine life make it appealing to snorkelers and scuba divers, while shaded coconut palms provide spots to relax on the sand." - Vanessa Wilkins Vanessa Wilkins Vanessa Wilkins is a travel and lifestyle writer with an extensive background in digital journalism. Hā’ena Beach is one of the best clear water and clean beach we’ve been to. Great snorkeling spot! Wish this stays as a hidden beach. Loved it!

Awesome beach. There is a small parking lot and some parking spots are available on roadside.

Sadly we came on a windy and rainy day, but the beach is beautiful and water is turquoise. There’s a cool cave across the street to spend a few minutes exploring. There is limited parking so would advise arriving early in the day

Incredible beach! Great shallow water with little waves perfect for the kids. Water was so nice and clear and you could see all the way to the bottom. I have to say there wasn’t much space, not one of the largest beaches I’ve gone too. Well, actual beach with sand was very large and nice especially considering the size of the actual water. Nonetheless, great water and nice rocks for kids to play on as well.

One of the greatest beaches on Kauai for sunset. It is not crowded, there is limited free parking available and the mountain range is a great back drop!

Holy guacamole! Travelled to the north coast of Kauai and discovered this unbelievable gem! As I've said so many times before, it's the staff who make or break the customer service experience. The lifeguard was very helpful, informative and friendly. He made the trek so much fun. If you're looking for a truly amazing place to sit and reflect on whatever you need to reflect upon, boy oh boy is this ever a place to do so. So happy I made the trek from Lihue! Loved it and I cannot recommend this place enough!!

Got here at 6:30am and we were the second car in the lot. By 8:15 the lot was full and people were waiting. Fantastic beach. You can do a 3 mile out and back walk along the beach all the way to Ke'e beach. At around 11 the food vendors set up shop. Could stay here all day. Water itself is pretty rough. Most kids were instead playing in the river that empties into the ocean

Haena Beach is a true gem on Kauai’s north shore, perfect for those seeking tranquility and natural beauty. The beach is surrounded by picturesque landscapes, with golden sand kissed by the turquoise waves of the Pacific Ocean. It’s a place where you can truly relax and enjoy the serenity, especially if you visit on a weekday or early in the morning. Haena Beach is ideal for swimming, sunbathing, or simply strolling along the shore, soaking in the beauty of nature. The views of the surrounding mountains and the vast ocean make this place truly magical. On calm days, it’s also a great spot for snorkeling, offering a glimpse of the diverse marine life. However, it’s important to note that Haena Beach can experience strong currents, particularly during the winter months, so caution and attention to weather conditions are advised. This beach also serves as an excellent starting point for exploring the area, such as a visit to the nearby Maniniholo Dry Cave or hiking the famous Kalalau Trail. The minimal infrastructure here adds to the beach’s charm, providing a sense of seclusion. Haena Beach is a place where you can completely disconnect from the hustle and bustle of city life and immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Hawaii. This beach will leave a lasting impression and become one of the most memorable spots on Kauai.
