Hagi Yado no Tomoe is an elegant inn near the train station with beautiful rooms and exceptional food. While this inn is simple on the outside and located in a business district near a canal, once you step inside you will find an elegant refined refuge in lovely Hagi City. Every detailed speaks to the refined taste of the Okami of the inn, an elegant, kind and refined hostess. My room was very large for one person, every detail was lovely and spotlessly clean. The food was beautiful and superb, with each course so beautifully presented. I also purchased some pottery from the small, curated collection in the lobby, and went on a tour of a sake brewery and had a wonderful experience. My only wish list is for there to be coffee available in the lobby early in the morning before 8 am, ideally by 6 am when the onsen baths open. In addition, the corrosive nature of the hot spring bath has caused some condition issues with the windows and stonework in the men's bath, so it may be time for a slight renovation to return it to the high quality condition of other parts of the inn. But these are minor suggestions. Overall the inn is perfection. I loved the kind staff and am grateful for my overall wonderful experience with them in Hagi.

Service was really first rate. Despite our not speaking Japanese, the staff were always patient and helpful. They guided us in adapting to the Ryokan customs and provided very personalized service without being intrusive. The gardens and facilities are well maintained and create a serene experience.

We’ve spent 3 nights in this wonderful ryokan which is ideally situated to visit the numerous attractions of Hagi. We had a tatami suite opening on the beautiful garden, and was very well equipped. The public baths use sea water. The cuisine quality is of the highest standard for a price which remains reasonable. Service is impeccable.

I will miss this place. All of the staff, will go above and beyond to assist you during your stay. We especially appreciated their hospitality, definitely the best in terms of hospitality out of all the hotels/ ryokans. Although the public bath could be bigger, the rest of the ryokan more than made up for it. Coffee is provided in the morning.

Although the email responses were slow, everything we communicated was taken into consideration when we got there. When we arrived, we were greeted nicely by all the staffs and served a welcome drink which was a local drink using oranges taken within the city. The dinner course we had was amazing, so was the breakfast. The rooms, cleanliness and service were impeccable. The onsen/public bath, although it is smaller than the other typical Ryokan, had everything we need, clean and nicely kept. I have no complains whatsoever and we had a great time during our stay. Thank you very much and I hope we will come back here again! :)

Absolutely brilliant. Breakfast was great, very helpful service and the staff can just enough english to get by if you can't speak Japanese. The onsen (public bath) was great and one of the staff offered to drive us to our next destination nearby when they did not need to. Very traditional style. Overall great experience.

This is very beautiful place to stay at. The Ryokan is just a few minutes away from the Higashi-Hagi station, on the river. The whole setting is beautiful, and the service very good. There are Onsen to enjoy and the japanese breakfast was also very tasty. The only small negative point: they dont have laundry service. I guess this is because most guests stay for only 1 night.||||The rooms are big and absolutely beautiful. Its worth getting a room with garden view, where there is an beautiful "terrace" into the japanese garden - absolutely stunning !

This is probably one of the best Ryokan I have ever stayed in Japan. First the city of Hagi is a gem by itself, but the Ryokan is stunning, location is just 5 minutes walk form the train station of Higashi Hagi. The Ryokan is beautifully kept, with a some of the best rooms and deco i have seen in Japan. The attention to details and the service very high. I love Japanese bathing and I went to the common bath every day. The rooms are very big, they have a garden which is spectacular. It is not cheap but it is worth it. The manager did everything to make us welcomed and also to help my parents with western breakfasts. Just one of the highlights of my 3 weeks in Japan. Mauro
