This hotel was such a lovely end to our trip in Japan! The staff was extremely friendly (and gracious when I accidentally let myself into the wrong room!) and helpful. Breakfast each morning was delicious and varied. The private baths were amazing! We booked one for one evening and got to see lovely natural surroundings while enjoying the hot water. Our room also faced down into the town and each night we could hear some sort of temple bells or music and it made the visit so enchanting. There is a shuttle that will take you into town and back, but honestly we never used it and instead preferred to enjoy the quiet neighborhood walk into town. Can't recommend this town and this establishment enough.

We are staying here two nights. Gorgeous views. Quiet. Shuttle bus from Takayama station and to town regularly. The only discord I have is I opted for a non-smoking room but was not given one. A simple error. If you really need a non-smoking room be sure to specify!! Private tubs. Incredible views. Lovely staff and turndown service!

Beautiful views, comfortable (though a little run down) rooms, helpful & friendly staff. Located uphill, but they do provide regular bus shuttles into the main town. Many private onsen that you can book once for free, quite relaxing. Do be warned though, the restaurant here is roughly ¥6000 per person and is a degustation-type of affair. No choice. Which can be very daunting if you're not into seafood/whole fish. Though I'm sure it was lovely, it just wasn't for me.

I have stayed at this hotel twice, in both Summer and Winter, and I highly recommend it. Set high on a hill, this hotel boasts a breathtaking view over the Takayama area. The traditional tatami bedrooms are large and spacious with very comfortable futons which are rolled up and put away during the day. There are both public and private onsens to be enjoyed and you can book a private onsen once a day for free (additional bookings attract a ¥1,000 fee). The massage chairs are a welcome addition after a long day of walking/exploring and there is complimentary tea and coffee served from 3PM. A shuttle bus is available from the train station to the hotel and back - learn from me and take the bus, don’t drag two heavy suitcases up the large hill! Although this hotel is slightly on the pricey side, treat yourself to a stay at this beautiful resort - you deserve it!

We arrived in the hotel room, greeted by a couple of snacks and hot water ready to go. It was a traditional Japanese style room with an excellent view of Takayama. We put on our robes and headed to the ping pong room. There's free wifi in the lounge and lobby areas of you need it. There are a bunch of private onsens that visitors can enjoy for free. You just have to reserve a time block. Ours had a wonderful view, we turned off the lights, opened up the panoramic window, and enjoyed a soak in the crisp mountain air. We had a quiet and pleasant sleep then headed to breakfast. It was a tasty variety of traditional Japanese foods with some exotic broiled veggies and tofu. It seemed quite seasonal and very fresh. Overall an excellent place to stay.

Amazing hotel up the hill with beautiful view of the city! This place also has five Private Onsen facilities that you have to book early (first serve basis). And superb service when my wife left her handphone in a restaurant in the city - they sent a driver yo puck it up for us, this is extra ordinary service.

This ryokan is located on a hill, overlooking takayama. Was a bit skeptical with some negative reviews saying this hotel looked old etc, but it is not that bad. The hotel is well maintained, very clean and neat. It may be old but everything is in great condition, in fact, it gives the relaxing and homely feel. Our room is facing the city, with a few sakura trees nearby, beautiful view! Hospitality is top notch, I feel like a royal there. Enjoyed their hot spring, guest may also reserve private bath, first one for 45mins is free. Subsequent cost 1000yen each. Free coffee, tea and also yakult til 8pm i think. Room is big, they have green tea in the room, and some snacks on the table. I loved the massage chair! I didn’t opt for their dinner, but had their breakfast, and it was great. We are served with some Hida beef. The hotel provides free shuttle to the morning market and takayama station.
