Stayed one night at Haiban Inn and had a good experience overall. The location is super convenient—just a short walk to the Journal Square PATH station and surrounded by great Indian restaurants. The room was clean, comfortable, and had everything I needed for a quick overnight stay—microwave, iron, and toiletries. Check-in was smooth and the staff was friendly and helpful. There’s no private parking, but I was able to get a street parking, which made overnight parking easy and affordable—no issues finding a spot nearby especially late night. Daytime street parking would be a luck to try. It’s not fancy, but for the price and location, it’s a solid choice. I’d definitely consider staying here again for a short trip or transit stop.

I had a disappointing experience at the reception. The lady at the front desk was quite rude and didn’t communicate properly. She quoted a different rate over the phone, and when I pointed out that the online rate was the same as what I mentioned, she simply told me to book online. This kind of service is very unprofessional and frustrating. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and improves their customer service.

The hotel was exactly as we expected it to be from the pictures. It was a comfortable stay in a great location. Quiet enough considering it felt like it was in the center of everything.

The room was disgusting. Nothing was wiped down, the bathroom was not cleaned or sanitized. No hangers or luggage stand to put luggage and clothing. There was no control over the thermostat so it was either really hot or really cold in the room. I also think there may be bed bugs as I have bug bites all over my arms and face which were the only exposed area that I had while sleeping. I had booked this through a third party website and was supposed to earn rewards points, but found out that they had cancelled my reservation on their end. Even though I did the complete stay and checked in and out at the listed times. Only plus about this location is that it was close to public transit. Would never stay here again

A pleasant surprise. Stayed in 2024 for NYE. SO CLOSE to the NJ train that takes you to NYC. Decently clean, not the most lavish rooms. There were a couple broken items in our room…plugs, blinds, refrigerator. However, for the price and proximity we were more than okay to overlook those minor inconveniences though it did make things a little harder. Friendly staff. Fun and pleasant culture!

We didn’t read any reviews or check out the location before booking, just wanted a cheap place to stay while visiting NYC. We were pleasantly surprised! The room, hallway and lobby were nice and clean, and the train station was just a quick 5 min walk. Took only about 20 mins to get to NYC. The street outside looked a bit sketchy, but was no problem. We had a huge room on 4th floor, and everything was nice. We noticed, though, that the other floors didn’t look as nice, so maybe opt for the top floor if you can! Looks like the hotel staff has taken notes of the reviews, because it really wasn’t as bad as many of the reviews. No coachroaches anymore (thankfully)! Really cheap and mediocre place to stay if you want to visit NYC and NJ without paying NYC prices.

I was traveling with my family, and we stayed here to visit Manhattan, using the convenient PATH train to enter the city. The hotel lobby is nice, the check in was a breeze and the way the hotel set up was different than what we have seen. The hotel was located in the Indian area so plenty of accessible restaurants with delicious Indian food right outside. Our room was clean, cozy, and comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and appreciated the hotel's proximity to the PATH train so we will definitely be returning.

Room booked and 4 hours after booking it turned out our flight was cancelled due to a tropical storm. Immediately contacted via booking. No response. Then suggested whether the stay could be changed to another date. No response. Emailed them privately and again no response. What happened to customer-friendliness, service and empathy? Yelp
DONT STAY HERE! We checked in and there were CUM STAINS AND PUBIC HAIR on the "clean sheets" and when we got another set, there was stains on those too!!! Dead flies in the elevator, and dirty linens in the stairwells.

Yelp
If I could give the Hellban (Haiban) Inn a score lower than one, I would do so. I knew this place was sketchy when the Uber driver pulled up to the Hotel entrance which was located in a dirty alley way. Upon exiting the Uber, we were assaulted by smells of burned bread and garlic. We made our way to the so called lobby (a small room with a sofa, non functional flat screen television and mini market with varied sundries), and checked in. We made our way to the elevator and ascended the three floors. We easily gained access to our room with the provided key. The room was large, with a kitchen/dining area separated from the bedroom area. The kitchen came with a two burner stove top, microwave and mini refrigerator. However, the kitchen did not have any cooking or eating utensils, nor any drinking utensils. Also, the hotel does not provide an ice bucket or ice service. We had to purchase ice at a local market. The bathroom was very small...extremely narrow...reminiscent of an airplane bathroom with a shower. Shampoo and a hair dryer were provided. We did have a problem having our dirty bath linens replaced after the first night. A trip to the front desk resolved the problem. The water pressure in the shower was poor at best; the shower head desperately needed to be replaced. A spacious closet was provided. However, there was only three hangars provided. Also, there was no luggage rack or chest of drawers provided. Bring your own travel iron or steamer for removing wrinkles from clothes as the hotel does not provide an iron. We were booked for two beds in our room. When we arrived, we were surprised to find one queen bed. An attempted call to the front desk was met with a dead phone. After several minutes of troubleshooting - the problem was the phone was plugged into a dead phone jack. With a live phone, a call is placed to the front desk. Unfortunately they are booked and this is the only room they can accommodate us with. As it was stuffy when we arrived, we turned on the air conditioner as we left the room for dinner. Returning some two hours later, there was no ambient change. The air conditioner was non functional. Fortunately the windows opened. However, the noise from street below was deafening...and did I mention that persistent odor? Fortunately it was not excessively hot/cold during our stay. We attempted to use the in room safe to store our valuables. The safe was locked. A call to the front desk; input a secret code and the safe should unlock. Negative. Call to the front desk. Someone will be right up to fix the safe. No one ever fixed the safe through out our stay despite repeated requests. The only positive thing I can say about this place is that it is only a five minute walk to the PATH station which gets you into New York City...very convenient. I will not stay here again! I will not recommend this hotel to others traveling in the New Jersey/New York City area. As a budget hotel, it does not even deserve the one start I have awarded it.

Yelp
Everyone who works here is incredibly nice, but the hotel really could use some work. I needed a place to stay before a flight leaving out of Newark airport. If I could do it over, I would sleep on a friend's couch or book somewhere way out in suburban Jersey. The place itself is hard to find. Parking is extra and it's on the side of the building in tiny little personal garages that need to be manually opened. It's not a hostel perse, but you will not have your own bathroom. TV has maybe 10 channels or so. I had one towel. There are some positive aspects of the hotel. It is a cheap hotel that isn't a complete hostel and it is very close to the PATH station. I also felt pretty safe in the neighborhood even though it may not LOOK like the safest neighborhood. I didn't see bedbugs or anything. However, I would not book again.

Yelp
This place sucks and has a pungent odor of curry goat ass. Place is all discombobulated with repairs still not done. Never again I tell ya!

Yelp
The picture speaks for itself. Woke up at 3am and turned on the lights in the kitchen and immediately spotted 3 cock roaches. Do yourself a favor and spend a bit more to go to an actual hotel or book through Air BnB. My expectations for Haiban Inn were extremely low and knew it wasn't going to be anything nice but I did not expect a cock roach infestation. When I approached the front desk "area" at 4am, two men were sleeping on the couch. I showed him the pictures of the cock roaches and said I wanted my money back. He said ok you'll be refunded in 3-5 days and insisted rudely that I give him the keys right then and there. I still needed to get my vehicle out of the random persons garage behind the bldg. I told him I wanted something in writing that says he will provide me with a full refund. He rudely said no and told me to go. To date, a month later, I am still disputing the charges with my credit card company. I wish I listened to my gut after I read the other horrible reviews- they are 100% accurate.

Yelp
Extremely clean. Extremely affordable. Accommodating staff. Mere blocks from the PATH to NYC. We don't know why this place only has one star.

Yelp
Do not stay here. It is not a professional place. The hot water doesn't work, broken glass on the floor, one of the guys tried to get into our room without knocking first. It is a very sketchy place. My fiancé and I ended up leaving and going to an actual hotel.

Yelp
Very Good Hotel for a reasonable price. Lots of Indian restaurants around and very safe. Rooms were spacious and clean. Happy with the stay.
