13 Best Places to Retire for Golf Lovers

"Haig Point is a private, member-owned community sprawled across 1,050 acres on historic Daufuskie Island, off the coast of South Carolina and between Hilton Head Island and Savannah, Georgia. It's accessible only by private ferry, and there are no cars on the island — just golf carts, bicycles, and plenty of picturesque walking paths. There's also an equestrian facility, tennis, a beach club, a fitness center, dining, and boating." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Haig Point is a wonderful getaway for a relaxed island environment. The golf is amazing. The tennis and pickleball courts are great. Nothing happens in a hurry there, which is its own blessing. The people who live and work there are very friendly and engaging. I highly recommend it for those who want to slow down, relax, and recharge. Just be prepared for everything to slow down significantly. If that's not you, and you expect immediate anything, this is not your place.

Yelp
I want to be able to give this a better rating but just can't quite get to the four star rating. Haig Point is a neat experience and potentially worth doing once if you don't have other options for similar experiences near you. We had a group of 12 and did the member for a day experience. Basically you meet up on the mainland and take the ferry over to Daufuskie Island, where you are then shuttled to the club house for your golf. After the round you're taken back to the ferry for a relaxing trip back. It's fun and certainly something different. All of the staff we interacted with were absolutely top notch. Very nice club house with a bar, and range balls were included. On the golf portion, I loved the layout of the course. Off the tee it was by far the most interesting course we played in Hilton Head up to and including Harbour Town. However, for the price we paid, we were all pretty underwhelmed by the course condition. Tees and fairways were in good shape but approaches around greens VERY rough. A number of greens with dead spots. And super inconsistent bunkers with linings showing in a handful of them where there was a seeming lack of sand. Just things that when you're paying those kinds of prices, shouldn't be happening. Overall, a cool trip and experience, although it does make for a long day. I'm glad we did it once, but I wouldn't do it again at the current price. As a similar alternative depending where you're coming from, check out Bald Head Island.

Yelp
Haig Point is one of the entrance points to Daufuskie. There is a lot of history associated with the island. The Golf and Tennis club are just a plus to tour. Plan to enjoy your day.

Yelp
The golf experience will exceed your expectations. The condition of the greens are consistently optimal and well tended to. Winding around the ponds, the gorgeous spread of forest and coast line of South Carolina, the terrain blends challenging golf along side elegant scenes.
