Absolutely love this place. They do some of the best lunch plates I’ve had in Hawaii and the staff are super friendly too. The laulau is so delicious and great value at under $20 including two sides and several desserts. The kulolo was a standout but they were all great. The owner generously let me sample some of the Puerto Rican-inspired pastele stew which was also really good. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in Honolulu.

Almost every one there appeared to be locals. It’s an old school Hawaiian diner with local grub. Not a touristy place but that is part of their charm! Small so not ideal for large groups. Food is what you would get at grandma’s house - nothing fancy but solid and filling.

What not to love on Hawaiian food? HHF is on my foodielist since last year. Though we pass by this eatery multiple times already I really don’t have the chance to stop and grab some kines. But today July 29, 2021 I finally decided to try this place out. First of all this eatery is easy to spot as this is just along the road of Kapahulu Ave. between Winam Ave. and Palani Ave. Can’t missed it! They got small parking at the back on the side of Winam Ave. FOOD. Chicken Long Rice Bowl, is so on point. This is always my favorite on Hawaiian food. This dish got me real good so I ordered this one in here & Haili didn’t disappoint me. The bowl came with two scoop of rice a small slice of taro and a small slice of pickled onion (which really elevate the overall taste of my ordered food). It was a good choice. Kalua Pig Bowl, is just okay but my husband loves it so much. And said that it was seasoned good. Opihi is so salty but so good! I got the taste from the ocean ad a bit refreshing. Haupia is not that good though but still I enjoyed it. Perfect dessert after the main meal we got. The only downside is the rice. They didn’t cook it real good. It’s kinda mushy and it somehow ruined the eating experience but I can manage by that. Price is a bit steep but since it was a local business & we are dining at Hawaiian eatery I won’t argue with that. We had fun. We enjoyed our meal. Our tummy was full & satisfied. For sure we gonna come back here!

Tried the pork kalua bowl, but felt that it didn't have much flavor. Came to try Hawaiian food and I'm sure it's pretty authentic, just I guess not for my palette.

This is the place to go to have authentic Hawaiian food. Amazing food and an even more amazing staff! One of the most memorable meals I've had in Hawaii.

We are in Honolulu for our wedding anniversary. We are staying in Waikiki. We asked a friend who moved here where we should go to get an authentic Hawaiian lunch experience and they recommended Haili's. They were sooo sweet. They explained everything to us on the menu. They have huge servings. It was all very tasty. They also have some seating outside thank goodness because we walked there. I would highly recommend checking them out.

Google
took friend visiting from AZ (she used to live here) for lunch. she was only ono for squid luau & poi, also ordered 🥭 haupia. she enjoyed all + kulolo 😘 i had laulau plate combo. ONO chicken long rice 🥰 my mother would've loved !!! got to talk to Noah, the cook, Simeon & Lorraine 🙂 Definitely planning to go again before they close 👍👍

Google
After a week of disappointments at the highly rated eateries around Waikiki, this place hit the mark. The food was great and the service exceptional. They gave us a side of poi to try since we had never had it. The kalua pork was excellent and the Lau Lau really tasty too. Ambience is a quick stop restaurant so don't expect too much on the interior. Would definitely come back for the kalua and Lau Lau!

Yelp
Going to miss this place. Not many good local hawaiian food places nor reasonable local food places. Had to stop here 1 last time before I have to go mainland for a few weeks. But found out I still get chance when I come back. They close down June 1st 2024. Laulau bowl was good, meat to luau leaves were perfect. Not salty and still juicy Tripe stew my favorite and my favorite style the thicken tomato base also perfect imo. Couple of the other hawaiian food places makes theirs the liquidy style which is ok but like it thick better with rice. Still get the parking out back in front the apartments. 6 or 7 stalls I believe. Cash or charge for card use. Go support another small mom and pop before they leave!

Yelp
Christmas with the hanai family always means Hawaiian food at one of the families' house. So this year I was trying to figure out what I wanted to take for the potluck. Luckily I remembered the owner telling me the day before that had fresh kulolo come in. So that's where I headed on Christmas Eve before going down to the party. I was able to select several choice pieces and they were able to cut them up into individual bite size pieces and nicely lay it on a tray that was so beautiful. I sampled one of the pieces when we got to the party and da buggah was ono! It had a nice soft texture that you only get when it's fresh. It was definitely a hit because the family whacked it.

Yelp
Small place on Kapahulu, but definitely worth stopping by. They have dine in and take out and the place is clean and welcoming. Service is great and it feels like you are dining with family. Whether you are a visitor wanting authentic Hawaiian food or from the Islands craving ono grinds, this is the place. For me, it was easier to park at Safeway and walk a little bit (not far). Anyway, I'm glad I found my "go to" place for good food with good people.

Irene T.

Yelp
Delish!!!! Too bad they are closing! great location and authentic Hawaiian cuisine .

Annie N.

Yelp
Solid Hawaiian food spot with reasonable prices. Their squid luau was my favorite thing I tried from here! The laulau is also good, but I've had better elsewhere. I noticed they didn't have pipikaula which is my fave... but they have specials on a whiteboard including fried ahi belly which was delicious. Workers are super nice and very local! Aunty gave us free banana bread for new years! Parking is spotty with kapahulu streets, but there's a couple of stalls in a lot in the back of their restaurant.

Yari W.

Yelp
Wife is craving Hawaiian kines. Lez go!!! Came here for late lunch after doing errands at the nearby establishment. This eatery is not open until dinner so I suggest you'd like to plan your day coming here ahead of time. Ordered kalua pig with cabbage and it was good. Not too salty and they cooked the cabbage just perfectly. It was tasty and I'm satisfied. My wife's chicken long rice is Onolicious as well. I slurp almost half of the soup and of course, she scolded me and I don't care as long as I can have a slurp enough for me to satisfy. You should come in here and try their menu. Prices are reasonable and customer service is okay. The only downside is they took time to serve our order and my wife is really hungry at that time. Anyway... See yah later!

Yelp
Mmm, I crave Hawaiian comfort food like at Haili's Hawaiian Foods (760 Palani Ave off of Kapahulu Ave)! Just look at this combo plate that includes laulau, Kalua pig, lomi lomi, poke, kulolo, purple yam, haupia and poi. Incredibly ono food that you feel the Aloha from in every bite. Such umami flavorful, lovingly prepared food. Go.

Angela W.

Yelp
Staff were helpful and offered explanations for what each dish entailed. Pork adobo wasn't very tender. Beef stew portion maybe had a couple bites of beef, also not very tender. Food left something to be desired. Establishment itself inside was very clean and tidy. Parking was convenient.

Anna E.

Yelp
Food was amazing. We have a picky little guy and he loved their laulau. Highly recommend Staff was great. Owner was so sweet.

Yelp
Authentic Hawaiian cuisine in Kapahulu, Honolulu, Hawaii... Since my friend from first grade is visiting from Virginia, I wanted to take her to eat whatever she craved. Her first response was, "Hawaiian food". Knowing that the "famous place" in Kalihi is really crowded, our second choice was Haili's Hawaiian Food. I had never been here before. My friend said that her dad did takeout several times from Haili's and the quality seemed good - so - that's how we decided on Haili's. PARKING: I was pleasantly surprised that there's a small free parking area in front of an apartment building to the right of the restaurant... on Winam Avenue! At first, I was searching for street parking, but Kapahulu is usually a bit crowded... Thank goodness that we saw the sign for Haili's FREE parking! FOOD: I was hungry. I ordered The Kahuna Plate which has everything: poi, laulau, lomi salmon, Kalua Pig, chicken long rice, sweet potato, fresh pineapple, and haupia (coconut dessert). Too bad they ran out of regular haupia. In its place was pineapple haupia... Awww... Disappointed. Also, my plate included fried poke. It might be poke from yesterday that was stir fried in some kind of slightly spicy teriyaki sauce? It was interesting! Must not have been too bad because I ate all of it! Everything else tasted pretty good - even the laulau (choice of chicken or pork) had a small bit of fish in it! Haha! That's the special touch! SERVICE: the older gentleman who took our order was very kind and "local". The lady was friendly and helpful. The young man was outstanding! He set up an extra table and chairs for a family who seemed like tourists. He brought each table of customers some disposable cups and pitchers of iced water. When he was clearing one of the tables, a styrofoam bowl flew across the street and he chased after it... down the block! He was amazing! Yes - we were sitting outside on the sidewalk. The ambiance was quite unique with the sounds of motor vehicles passing by and the fresh feeling of light rain where the roof of the building didn't cover us. Ahhh... Happy memories of a Hawaiian lunch in paradise... I need to return for the squid luau... I'm sure it's going to be yummy!

Yelp
Random days I just wanna eat chicken long rice. I don't know but when I think of Hawaiian food, three dishes makes me so excited; chicken long rice, opihi & pipikaula. But as I mentioned on my first sentence, I just wanted to eat chicken long rice on a humid afternoon. Located in Kapahulu this Hawaiian Eatery is an alternative choice if you want to have some Hawaiian food that ain't flocked with crowds. Outside dining is available and if you are a type of person that environment matters you the most when you dine-in I'm sure you'll be having a second thought as this is not as luxurious as what you think. FOOD. Chicken Long Rice, as usual is so good. I got the bowl and it comes with rice & pickled onion. I'm not that hungry. I just wanna have some chicken long rice, that's it! Satisfied bandit here! Opihi, as usual is a perfect appetizer for Hawaiian eats. A bit way too salty though. Brought home some of it, I drizzled with "sinamak" and oh boy, wish I got an extra order. So good! Kalua Pig with Cabbage, is just okay but my bandit loves it. I don't care much on pork dish but I still tried it though. Kinda taste bland to me. Haupia in here is a bit disappointing. The taste I am expecting ain't present. Customer service is good. They're quick. May not be the friendliest but it's good enough that they cater their patron's with enough Aloha. Seating outside might be a bit off for others, as you literally eating alongside the road. There will be homeless people passin' by and the cars, the pollution and etc. but we don't care that much. The food is good and that's what we came here for. LoL. Will surely come back for short ribs! Mahalo nui for reading & happy juandering fellow Yeeps!

Yelp
We had all been craving some good, hearty Hawaiian food. I actually got there 5 mins after their closing time, but they were so sweet and still took my order. I ordered the big Kahuna plate with poi and was advised it was a lot of food - just as well, because it was for the family. They also had fresh Kulolo from Kauai that had come in that AM, so bought $10 worth. You guys my stomach was growling the whole way home because everything smelled so good. There was literally enough food to feed 5 people - which is how many of us ate from it. There was not a drop of food left behind. Everything was so tasty and authentic. Absolutely some of the the best Hawaiian food I've ever had. Highly recommend and will definitely be back.

Yelp
My husband and I wanted to try some traditional Hawaiian food before we left the island, and we are SO glad we chose this place. A convenient bus ride from Waikiki Beach, this nondescript roadside place with only a couple of tables is pure authenticity. Since we were planning on going to Leonard's afterwards, we split a Combination Plate which had lau lau (we chose chicken over pork), kalua pig, lomi salmon, poke, haupia, sweet potato, and a starch of our choice (we chose rice over poi). Our lunch came on a neat little lunch tray and looked beautiful. Everything on our plate was delicious. The kalua pig was wetter than I thought it would be, but had great smoky flavor, was seasoned perfectly, and wasn't fatty at all. The lau lau was very good with a decent portion of meat inside. I don't think the leaves are my personal favorite flavor (maybe it's an acquired taste), but I could appreciate how well this was prepared regardless. The lomi salmon was refreshing and addictive. We are salmon lovers and really enjoyed this. The haupia was wonderful--light and coconutty. Not too sweet or firm. The sweet potatoes were cooked well, and there was even a brown sugar-tasting sticky dessert included that I really loved (wish I had remembered to get the name of it). I have to leave a separate paragraph for the poke. This was the BEST poke we had on the island in the 8 days we were there. And we ate poke every day, sometimes twice a day. The fresh, melt-in-your-mouth tuna was seasoned to perfection and served nice and cold. If I could go back to Oahu tomorrow, I would come right here and get the poke on its own, as much as I loved everything else. So good! Lastly, the people that worked here were very sweet. Prices are reasonable (it's cheaper than some of the other authentic Hawaiian places in Honolulu for sure), and we kinda liked that it had a family-owned dive feel to it. You will be eating at plastic tables on the side of a busy street, but the food more than makes up for it.

Liz P.

Yelp
Priceless! The best of the best. Mahalo nui loa for all your years of sharing such comforting kaukau.

Adore C.

Yelp
If I could give no stars, I would this restaurant is horrible. They have roaches running all over the place. They have horrible customer service and I could have sworn I saw a rat. So I guess it matches their personality the way that they present the restaurant if you're willing to wait over hours for your meal, this is a place to go even if you put your order in ahead of time you'll be waiting over hours and if you're not a friend of theirs or even if you're a different race other than Hawaiian you will wait even longer.

Diva G.

Yelp
I was tasked with ordering Hawaiian food for our staff luncheon and had called 3 other places aside from Haili's. The lady I had spoken with on the phone was very friendly and knowledgeable. She provided me with the different catering options. You can also view the menu on their website! We ended up ordering from Haili's. The food was really delicious! We ordered kalua pig, Lomi salmon, rice, sweet potatoes, pineapples and haupia. I highly recommend if your hosting an event near town side! I don't recall them offering a delivery service however we picked it up anyways.

Wayne S.

Yelp
The Hawaiian food here very good. I had the delicious pastele stew, squid luau(not too sweet, just right), fresh poi. The service is fast and the prices are very reasonable.

Roy H.

Yelp
I remember the 70's when Haili's Hawaiian Foods was in the Ward complex. Eating here brings back memories of those wonderful days that were less stressed. Everytime I come here and eat their food it brings me back to the local style hawaiian food and happy moments with these wonderful people. THIS IS MY FAVORITE HAWAIIAN FOOD PLACE ON THE ISLAND! (Shhhh! and Don't let the tourist know about this place...don't want them to be too busy : )

Jason E.

Yelp
I cannot say enough about how nice the people here are, just amazing humans. But the food was really good too. This is my first time in Hawaii and my first authentic Hawaiian food. My wife and I shared the Big Kahuna Plate to sample a little of everything and, along with the cake dessert (for me) we left full. Almost everything is gluten free too, which really helps for my wife. Highly recommend if you're in Oahu.

Kyle S.

Yelp
*Note this is a review based on a special Kamehameha Schools Hoolaulea 2021 plate which is similar to the Big Kahuna plate, but portion sizing could be different and it came with a small piece of kūlolo. The taste should be the same for all the foods which is what I'll focus the review on. This was a takeout order. The laulau isn't large, but had a lot more butterfish in it than normal these days. To me than made up for the overall size and not as much pork as other places. Kalua pig was moist, smokey tasting and just enough salt. Lomilomi salmon had a good amount of salmon which is always a plus. Not too salty which is good. Chicken long rice was surprisingly good with a tasty broth that had nice ginger flavor. Sometimes this dish can be bland with plain chicken broth so I appreciated the extra attention they give it here. Poke was slightly spicy with what I assume is chili pepper water and seems like oyster sauce, but I'm not positive. Haupia is a little more on the firmer side than totally soft and creamy, though not as solid as jello. It has just enough coconut flavor. Kūlolo was a nice bonus! It is more "rustic" in that it has bits of taro and not smooth. I personally don't mind the texture as it seems less processed. Really good flavors with sweet, taro, and coconut. The sweet potato and pineapple were good, nothing to complain about! I can't remember if I have had food from here before so nice to know I can get good Hawaiian food at Haili's. I liked that every dish had just the right amount of salt. It is easy to add more salt to your liking, but you can't do the reverse!

Yelp
Haili's Hawaiian Foods is one of my favorite spot for Hawaiian food, back home from an super awesome trip and I am so missing Hawaiian kine local food! Haili's is what's for lunch on this recent Saturday. It is always nice seeing owner Lorraine, she is so friendly and we have lots in common, Since visiting often I had a chance to talk story with her. Please support local during this hard pandemic times. Haili's is open for business, she has a table set up in front of entrance to place order and about 2 tables for dining. Haili's is located on Kapahulu, before Pizza Hut), with about 3 parking stalls, the stalls are next to Haili in front of the apartment. Haili has been around for so long since 1950s, so you know they got lots of experience in the Hawaiian food business, they got all the good authentic stuff. Credit cards are accepted and hours of operations are 10 am -2 pm, Tuesday-Sunday. My favorite combo which I always always get at Haili's is the Big Kahuna (21.00) is perfect has everything for your Hawaiian food cravings, which consist of Laulau, chicken long rice, kalua pork, rice or poi, small sides of lomi salmon, poke, haupia, sweet potato, & kulolo (if available) The big Kahuna is huge which fed the 3 of us and we still got leftovers. I went with poi as my starch and all we needed was a pot of rice! The Hawaiian food is really tasty, no complaints from my son and husband. Don't forget to the mango haupia ( if available) super good! Sometimes I will stop in to pick up a lb of Kalua Pork so I can make Kalua pork spinach or cabbage for week's dinner and a container of chicken long rice and add my marunguay leaves to it, I made my own creation. All in all, I am happy I got my Hawaiian food fix when I visit, support local and come check out Haili's :0)!!

Candice L.

Yelp
You will have to wait for a while, but it's worth it! Haili said her kids are on vacation and only have one cook in the kitchen. She wasn't ready for the crowd to come after publishing in the newspaper that she's retiring in June. Tripe stew is so ono!!

Cassidy T.

Yelp
lovely food and lovely people! we walked in and was welcomed by a lady that made us feel so comfortable as she was explaining every dish and recommendations the big kahula combo is the go to, as it comes with various dishes (although a little on the saltier side), the ahi steak plate was amazing with the fish being so fresh (bought fresh everyday), haupia was the perfect texture and sweetness overall, definitely a spot to visit for yummy food! :)

C S.

Yelp
Local owned business, generations in the making, providing quality Hawaiian food at great prices, portions and service. Catering, dining in or taking out, you can feel the aloha, taste the genuine love put into it and appreciate the hard work this family owned business puts in to keep the culture thriving.

Hostelling Int'l H.

Yelp
Authentic Hawaiian food lime grandma used to make. Great place to take your lunch break before going back to work!

Jody R.

Yelp
It's been over 8 years since I've been to Haili's! The food is so ono!! The owners (Lorraine, Simeon and Noah) took the time to chat with us and we enjoyed the photos of Lorraine's family. The fried ahi belly was slightly crispy on the outside and sooo moist on the inside. We love supporting local businesses! Simeon, mahalo for sharing your fireman days! God bless!

Pete S.

Yelp
We just had a great lunch at Heili's. Tasted like from Aunties kitchen. I would totally come back. The owner talked with us and we learned about how the restaurant was opened in 1950.

Lauren K.

Yelp
If you are a local or just visiting, Haili's was a great experience with impeccable authentic Hawaiian food! If you have never had Hawaiian cuisine before and want a little bit of everything, get the Kahuna Plate. Excellent customer service to top it all off!

Art C.

Yelp
Yes! Hawaii... no more covid-era delivery reviews (for a while at least). Yeap, we spent some weeks in Hawaii as an escape from the depression of NYC winter (made worse by covid). Plus we love Hawaii and in particular, Hawaian food. So sit tight for a bunch of new entries into our Hawaiian restaurant review collection. Formally starting with (because I've informally done a few already) Haili's Hawaiian Foods. I felt bad about this one. We picked up the food and had it at our rental. For some reason the food wasn't great- the taste was there but it was dry and we thought maybe not the freshest. With all the great restaurants, I can't say we'd try this one again. But keep in mind that we think this place may have been having a bad day.

Helen H.

Yelp
I was looking for authentic Hawaiian food and I think this place met that purpose. The miso chicken and pork lau lau plate was delicious! It also comes with a side of taro and coconut haupia. I thoroughly enjoyed this meal as it was flavorful and I can tell that time and care went into making the meal. There are plenty of option to choose from and the ladies are happy to help. I think the restaurant is family owned and has been passed down from generation to generation. This is not a fancy restaurant, but notable in my books. It is on a main street and easy to find.

Brian S.

Yelp
This restaurant was recommended by a staff member at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. We wanted authentic Hawaiian food and Haili's did not disappoint. Jerry came to our table and told us what was in each dish we ordered. Very friendly staff and the food was delicious. Thanks Jerry and all the employees for a memorable meal.

Jessica S.

Yelp
I always passed this restaurant whenever I was in Kapahulu trying out other food delights. I was never in a Hawaiian food mood until my boyfriend and I decided to walk the strip one afternoon to gauge what we wanted to eat. It's located mid-strip of Kapahulu across of Onstage Drinks and Go Bananas Watersport, near Ono's Seafood. There's a small parking lot next to/behind the restaurant available for customers. Due to Covid, they are only currently accepting online or phone call orders in which you can pay with a credit card. They will deliver the food out to you in your car or at the door once ready. They offer a huge menu of food which was a bit overwhelming. We ended up ordering two laulau plates and a side of squid luau. The plates came with lomilomi salmon, poke, haupia, sweet potato, kulolo, and a piece of pineapple. You can choose either rice or poi as your starch option. Taking a bite into the laulau, the meat was really tender and juicy. And you know it's legit if you find a piece of butterfish in between all the meat and taro leaves. The squid luau was on the sweeter side compared to most Hawaiian places. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed it. My boyfriend, on the other hand, didn't like the sweetness. Both entrees were really good including the lomilomi salmon and haupia. I didn't care much for the poke or kulolo. I would definitely recommend the squid luau if you ever want to try Haili's. But ONLY if you don't mind it being on the sweeter side. If I ever crave Hawaiian food whenever I'm in the area again, I would like to try their other things like the tripe stew and chicken long rice. P.S. They have Cashback offer if you haven't noticed!

Bill R.

Yelp
The menu speaks for itself GREAT Hawaiian food. Superb service, Local all the way. There is not an item on the menu that is not prepared with pure Aloha in mind. You will not get more delicious Hawaiian food than at Haili's Hawaiian Foods.

Agnes D.

Yelp
The kalua pork bowl was very flavorful.. the plate option they have had nice size portions. Very casual atmosphere and friendly staff!

Chelsy P.

Yelp
First time trying here Written menu says all plates come with rice, sweet potatoe, lomi salmon, and poke. We ordered the big kahuna, kalbi plate, Haupia and lilikoi juice. The big kahuna was a good size, greatest for if you want a taste of everything. It comes with kalua pork, laulau, and chicken long rice. And the kalbi place comes with 6 kalbi bones and choice of kalua pig and cabbage or chicken long rice. Kalbi was delicious, soft and flavored well. Kalua but also very good, little salty but very flavorful, they also give the kalua with a bit of kalua juice which is great and doesn't dry out!! Laulau was 1:1 ratio of filling to banana leaf. Chicken long rice had a lot of soup and a strong ginger taste. The side poke came with 3 pieces of fish and mostly onion a bit salty as well. But overall very good flavors. The meals also came with haupia (wasn't mentioned on menu reason why we bought on the side) so we had so much! Very delicious. Lilikoi drink nice and refreshing, tastes like a half sweetened lilikoi tea and was filled to the top with ice. We also used our restaurant card which online said we would get a bogo 50% a 2nd plate but when we got there they gave us a certificate for our next visit instead. Personally I think that's a better way to do it so it would bring customers back but its just misinformed.

Michael A.

Yelp
Delicious, delicious, delicious!! Haili's is a great place to get down-home style REAL Hawaiian food. You can get the expensive commercial version of the Hawaiian classics in the heavily populated tourist areas of Waikiki, but if you want the good stuff (like your Hawaiian grandmother would cook) this is the place to go! The Lau Lau is delicious. The Poke is fresh and better than anything available on the mainland (and trust me, I've eaten a lot in order !). And lastly, the Haupia is out of this world! This was my first time to have Haupia, which is essentially a coconut pudding, and I was very pleased with this choice. I recommend the Combo Plate for first timers!

Colin O.

Yelp
We're tourists who love Honolulu. Initially, we thought that the walk from Waikiki to Rainbow was ok...then we did the walk to Side Street...and on this latest trip, we walked 40 minutes to Haili's (and then back). Good exercise to justify our food tour around the area. So this is what Hawaiian comfort food is like! We ordered a Kalua Pig Hawaiian Bowl. It came with a piece of purple sweet potato, pickled onions and a slice of pineapple (aloha!). It really felt like someone had welcomed us into their home and prepared us a meal. The Kalua Pig was pronouncedly smoky but we didn't have a chance to ask for their recipe (like one always does when visiting a home for a meal). A good meal. When we arrived, we ordered at the table at the front entrance and ate at one of the tables in front. Service was ohana-like with water, utensils and napkins brought out for us. Too bad no one came out for a chat. I would recommend trying out Haili's. There's certainly quite a few good eating places along Kapahulu, and Haili's has its own charm.

Daniel C.

Yelp
You know the restaurants that you pass by all the time and you tell yourself that you're gonna try them out next time? This was Haili's for me. I've passed by so many times that I've lost count and so I made it a point to schedule it into my lunch week. It was a tight squeeze between meetings but I made it work with a few moments to spare. This hole in the wall restaurant off Kapahulu is a lot larger inside than I expected. It's very casual and the menu is pretty straight forward. They do have a daily specials menu on a chalkboard to the right of the cash register so don't forget to check that out. Everyone was so nice here so 5 stars on customer service! We knew what we wanted so we quickly ordered. I got "Da Big Kahuna" with rice and Mink got their Kalbi with Chicken Long Rice daily special. Personally I liked the Kalbi the most as it was flavorful and well prepared. Everything else we had was equally good and potions are filling. The chili pepper water was really good with the rice and kalua pig. If you can't eat everything, you can ask for take out containers. I polished off my meal with ease but Mink was only able to eat half of her meal so the take out containers came in handy. Great Hawaiian restaurant option off Kapahulu!

Yelp
Came here as a total fluke as I was on my way to Leonard's bakery nearby. I happened to be hungry, so I looked up the reviews and decided "why not?" ... and I'm happy I did. Walking in, the place is very homey and the people working there are super nice. The menu can be a bit intimidating to a non-local since I didn't know what some of the things were, but the person helping me out was very informative. I ended up going with the ahi wrap, and it was DELICIOUS. It's cooked ahi (not raw) but has really great flavor and texture to it. Yum! It comes with some sides, but the wrap was the star of the show. Overall I really enjoyed this quaint spot that I found by accident. It's affordable, tasty and convenient! Stay Cheerful ;)

Yelp
THIS PLACE HAS SOME OF THE BEST HAWAIIAN FOOD IN HAWAII !!! So far I've had the grilled ahi, beef stew, pork laulau, poke, lomi salmom, white rice and poi. Everything was top-notch !!! My favorites though were the beef stew and the laulau but the other items were excellent too. The poi was old-style which was semi-strained which I preferred instead of having it strained to a super-smooth consistency. The rice was cooked perfectly which for me is really important. My only complaint was that the poke was a little sweet for me but the fish was fresh as well as the onions and other ingredients. You can order online as well as phone in. Service was friendly and efficient.

Yelp
If you are craving authentic Hawaiian food, this is the place to go. Located in historic Kapahulu, this local themed restaurant gives you best of Hawaiian food and more. Lots of charm and character to this place from the décor to the staff. It is a very comfortable and relaxed setting to enjoy a great meal. For those who have not experienced Hawaiian food before, the best thing to do is get Da Big Kahuna. This large plate will give you a well rounded sampling of classic Hawaiian dishes and a little dessert as well to finish it all off. It comes with Lau lau, Kalua Pork, Chicken Longrice, Lomi lomi Salmon, Poke, Poi, Sweet Potato, Pineapple, and Haupia. Don't for get to add a little chili pepper water to if you want to spice it up a bit. They do have a very large menu of other items and smaller plates if this sounds like a bit much for you or not what you are in the mood for. One thing to note is that parking is limited and a bit of challenge. You might want to research the area and plan ahead to avoid any parking mishaps.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place because the workers were just SO nice and polite, but the food was such a let down... Kalua pork - I don't know what it was but the taste was off, it tasted like it was about to spoil and was masked in too much salt. It didn't have that yummy smokey fresh goodness I'm so used to. The chili pepper water didn't even help it out. Long rice - some of it was clumped together and you could tell it's been sitting because the long rice was super fat from absorbing all the liquid. It was also on the salty side. They also don't give raw onion & Hawaiian salt like most places do. I probably enjoyed the purple yam/sweet potato most which comes with the plates. Steak plate - this was pricey and we got such a small portion of sliced steak (maybe 3oz). The people we seen eating in got a large full sliced steak! Overall we spent $40+. The food just did not compare to other Hawaiian food I have tried on this side of the island such as Helena's, and even Highway Inn or People's Cafe. I'm guessing tourists local this spot more often than not since it's so close to Waiks.

Yelp
Really, really nice people run this place. Sadly, the food was really disappointing. Tasted a couple different pokes and didn't care for them. I went with the kalua pig bowl while my wife had an ahi poke bowl. Both were quite bland and just didn't have much taste. I really wanted to like this place ... I will give them another try since I have another coupon to use and hope for something better. I compare all poke and kalua to Alicia's. Haili's just didn't measure up. We'll hope for ononess and try something completely different next time.

Yelp
I haven't eaten at this Hawaiian food establishment since they were located at the Ward Farmers Market. Now that's a long time ago and showing my age. Haha never mind that! I had a fundraiser ticket that I paid $90 for that claims it feeds 5-6 people. A lot of places claim that but I've found it to be true with Haili's. This ohana meal included rice, kalua pig, chicken long rice, squid luau OR mini laulau (I ordered a side of squid luau), lomi salmon, sweet potato and haupia. There was so much food and we could not finish it all. My faves were the kalua pig and squid luau, of course. Both were perfectly flavored. I usually have to add Hawaiian salt to the kalua pig but I didn't have to in this case. I added chili pepper water to my laulau as I always do and it was yummy. My kids preferred to eat it as is and said it was ono. The chicken long rice needed a bit more broth flavor as I usually add a lot of chicken broth and am used to that flavoring. I usually don't care for the lomi salmon at Hawaiian food restaurants because they add so much yucky onions and so little salmon. That was not the case in this situation. OMG!!! So much salmon and flavor and very little onions so I was able to eat it. The only downfall to this establishment is that they close at 2 pm so I had to reheat my ono kau kau for dinner. Be prepared for Hawaiian paralysis to set in after grinding this ono Hawaiian delicacy. Wish I could give them 5 shakas instead of 4 stars (not giving the full rating because of the hours).

Yelp
I was very impressed with this business establishment. From the very moment I walked in, my family was greeted with a smile and a genuine hello. The employees here were so kind and friendly. You can tell that there are good people who work here. They take pride in their jobs and serving customers. I have been here multiple times and have never had a bad experience. That really says a lot about this business and their employees. I will be back to patronize this business and would recommend it to anyone in the area. A+ service all the way. Five . Highly recommended in my opinion!

Yelp
When I stepped into here, I couldn't help but hear Sean Naauao's "Fish and Poi" ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPTrl0At9NU ) run through me head. I felt like I had come home. I brought a Korean exchange student here because he had not had a chance to try "Hawaiian" food. It would have been unforgivable to have spend a semester in Hawaii without at least having Lau Lau and poi at least once. The lady at the counter was helpful in directing us to the right order for someone who had not had Hawaiian food before. We had Da Big Kahuna: Kalua Pig, lau lau, chicken long rice. lomi salmon, poke, haupia, poi, purple sweet potato, and pineapple. Everything tasted as it should. The surprise was the Kalua pig. It was more smokey than most. Not Carolina BBQ pulled pork smokey but more than most others. He couldn't finish it all but the reason was interesting. The poi was too different for him to eat it all and the Kalua pork and lau lau were too salty for him to eat without rice. He ended up taking it home and eating it later with rice. Need to go back and try the pastele next.

Yelp
I ordered the $16 combo plate and it was enough for two meals! It came with lau lau, kalua pork, rice, lomi salmon, poke, sweet potato and haupia. The lau lau and kalua pork wasn't too oily or salty. The poke was really good! There's not that much parking in the area so it's best to call in the order and takeout. Nice to live near yummy Hawaiian food!
