Jajangmyeon for only $5.99?! I’m there. Hainan is a restaurant in Flushing where you can order all the staples in the Korean Chinese cuisine. My husband and I ordered jajangmyeon (noodles in black bean sauce), tangsuyuk (fried pork with sweet and sour sauce), and jjampong (spicy noodle soup with seafood). Jajangmyeon is one of my favorite type of noodles, and whenever you order jajangmyeon, you also have to order tangsuyuk. It's crispy, crunchy, and the batter is not too thick. With the sauce, you can either dip it in or pour it all over. Inside the jjampong, there's a bunch of seafood and other ingredients. You get shrimp, mussels, octopus, squid, broccoli, peppers, and of course, the noodles. Such a savory, hearty, and comforting meal. Hainan is great for a quick and casual meal. My friend and I went to Hainan around 12:30pm on a Sunday. It was decently busy, but we were able to get a table without a wait. It's a bit of a walk from Main Street, so I would recommend catching a bus, especially in the cold weather! The ambiance is casual, with the menu items posted up around the restaurant. For food, it comes down to preference. We each ordered a jjajangmyeon ($11.98 - I could've sworn the menu said $9.99, but that may be a lunch special price?) and a medium tangsuyuk to split ($23.99). Pricing is fair, and it is still cheaper than Manhattan prices. I was a bit off-put by the orange-colored noodles in the jjajangmyeon, but they had a nice silky texture. The sauce was where the dish lost me. I don't know what it is, but it tasted almost like there was a tomato component in the sauce, and the sweet black-bean flavor was not coming through to me. The tangsuyuk was fried well and the coating had a nice texture. However, the meat itself was flavorless and absolutely needed the sauce. Service was mixed, though everyone was courteous. The food came quickly, and I was granted more kimchi when I asked (this kimchi was REALLY good!). However, you have to ask for most things (water, water refill, kimchi refill, etc.). I'm not super put-off by this, since that's how it is in Korea, so just be aware of it. Overall, the food is still good, but since it is not my preference, I will be checking out other places in the area before returning to Hainan.

I think this is the best Korean-Chinese restaurant! The food always tastes fresh, clean, and flavorful. The place is always spotless, and they have so many delicious dishes to choose from. I really love this restaurant and highly recommend it!

I do have my go to Korean Chinese place but wanted to try this place as jjajangmyen deal seemed pretty good these days ($5.99). Jjajangmyen was decent, tangsuyuk was a let down (small portion for Large, small pieces, too chewy and the sauce was not enough quantity), but jjamppong was pretty good. We had to wait for a long time to get our first food. When we were done with Tangsuyuk, we got the noodles which should usually be the opposite order. I'm going to stick to my usual spot.

Amazing weekday lunch specials and sets! Jjajangmyun is sooo good and the price can’t be beat! Highly recommend this place for Jjajangmyun out all several other restaurants in the area!

This place has great food. Every time I go, I am met by their friendly staff. I always get Chadol Jjamppong and it hits every single time! Their Sachun Tangsu is crispy, savory and absolutely delicious!

Banner in the front caught my eyes -- $5.99 jajangmyeon! Haven't been here forever, but I could not resist a deal, especially in this economy. Honestly, thought it was too good to be true. We went in and they confirmed that they were indeed running this promotion ($6.99 if you decided to take-out tho). The JJM was solid; noodles were springy and the sauce was well-seasoned. Not much meat in it, but I could taste bits of ground pork in the sauce. Onions made up the bulk of the volume of the black bean sauce; personally I loved, but a warning for those who detest onions ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Our food came out almost immediately, so this is a terrific spot for those who just want to pop in for a quick meal. Not sure how long this promotion is going for, but best bang for your buck!

Life is short. F....it up! Family, Flavor, Friends. was in the neighborhood running errands inside pop in here to try out the food. This is a typical Korean/Chinese style restaurant with the classic jajamyum and jambong. Service is friendly . Mandoo fried nicely and tasty. The chicken was savory and sweet with a good crisp. The noodle dishes came with egg yolk noodles.. Which was a nice touch vs normal ones. Could have a lil more selection of bon Chon . But overall good experience ..try the chicken

It remains a mystery to me how the name "Hainan" was selected for this above-average Koreanized-Chinese restaurant in eastern Flushing. There is no relation between the food served here and the beachy island in Southern China. Perhaps it is similar to the way the word "Manchurian" is used to evoke distant lands in Indo-Chinese food, which I can assure you has no culinary relationship with Dongbei cooking. The tofu with vegetables here was one of the best tofu dishes I've had recently. The tofu was perfectly fried with a starchy outer layer and a perfectly custardy interior, served in a thickened gravy. I would come back for this alone. I was less a fan of the jjajjangmyeon. I prefer when restaurants use a mix of corn starch and water to create a thicker sauce from the jjajjang, but there was very little gravy here, and as a result it was hard to impart much flavor upon the noodles.

Ordered for delivery. The beef noodle soup with seafood was excellent. Beef was savory and cooked properly. Rating 8/10 They use the same noodles in everything and the noodles are great. They are long, soft and chewy. The jjajang sauce was very flavorful and mixed well with the noodles. Rating 8/10 The cream fried shrimp reminds me of walnut shrimp from Chinese restaurants. Shrimps are big. The frying is good. The sauce taste like mayo, honey and a bit of mustard. 8/10

TLDR: Good local spot in the Broadway Flushing area for Korean-Chinese. Very old school flavor and also some tough to find items. Can't go wrong with the jjampong or jajangmyun. I think they've been around for awhile but I never got a chance to try until recently. I found this place because ever since I had jjampong (seafood noodle soup) with beef brisket in Korea - I have been chasing that flavor. So when I saw Hainan had this, I needed to try. The broth was flavorful, it was not too greasy and there was a good amount of seafood. We also tried the spicy jajangmyun which had a nice wok-fried flavor and real spice. Fried dumplings were tasty and the so was the sweet/sour pork. They put the sauce on the side which I prefer - so the coating doesn't get soggy. I think this is one of the better places you can get Korean/Chinese at.

Their lunch specials are such a good deal! Food and service were both good. Restaurant is a good size and sectioned out nicely. Will definitely be returning.

Not sure why my husband picked this place since it's completely out of our way but I am so glad he did! There was a special going on for jjajangmyeon for $5.99 when the usual price is 9.99. We barely looked at the menu and instead looked at the pictures of specials around and ordered those instead. We got two peach iced teas, fried mandoo, jjajangmyeon, spicy beef soup with rice and the sweet and sour fried pork. The iced teas were very nice and refreshing but a tad too sweet. It definitely has a yogurt drink in it. The mandoo was basic, nothing to rave about. jjajangmyeon came in a big bowl and enough for 2 people or one very hungry person. The black bean sauce was thick and sweet and paired with the chewy noodles perfectly. The spicy beef soup was surprising and I wish they had said it somewhere that it is seafood based and not beef based. I am not allergic to shellfish but if someone was, it would not be a pleasant experience. The star of the whole dinner was the sweet and sour pork. The pieces were big and perfectly fried without too much batter. The sauce looked very thick but it didn't taste like it and it was not overly sweet. We ordered the medium size and at first it looked like a huge portion but we ate most of it. The server was very pleasant and made approving comments on the food we ordered. The dining experience was nice, they separated the tables with these dividers and there were no tables next to another party so it felt more cozy. Decoration was bare. Parking is a hit or miss in this area. We would definitely come back again!

I love a good Korean-Chinese restaurant, and Hainan 100% delivered. They currently have an ongoing promotion for jjajangmyeon--$5.99 a bowl when dining in and $6.99 for take-out or delivery--so run, don't walk. You won't find such a sweet deal anywhere else. * Coolpis Iced Tea 쿨피스 아이스티 $3.50 They have these cute little signs at all their tables advertising drinks, and my partner completely fell for it. He saw the Coolpis Iced Tea sign at our table and was like "That looks good," and proceeded to order one. It was delightful, so peachy, cold, and refreshing! * Noodles in Black Bean Sauce 짜장면 $5.99 Their jjajangmyeon usually costs $9.99, so $5.99 is such a steal. We ordered two bowls, and the portions were huge. The noodles were thick, chewy, and luscious, coated in rich and savory black bean sauce. * Fried Pork with Sweet Sour Sauce (Small) 탕수육 $18.99 When this dish first arrived, my partner looked at the portion and commented, "We should've ordered the medium." I'll admit the portion definitely looked a tad sad, but I was certain that small was enough, and as expected when paired with the jjajangmyeon, it was more than enough. The fried pork was crispy and crunchy, while the sauce was sweet, sour, and tangy, with large pineapple chunks, zucchini, wood ear, and other ingredients. Overall, amazing experience! The staff were sweet, speedy, and attentive, and so quick to refill banchan. Furthermore, they offer Yakult at the end?! 10/10 recommend!

Came with a large party for dinner. We got 2 H1 which came with 3 jajamygeon, fried chicken with spicy sour soy cause, stir friend starch noodle with veg I beef, fried pork with sweet sour sauce, and a charm soju. We also got a seafood jajamygeon with 2 extra jajamygeon, and a spicy noodle soup with seafood. Service was very accommodating. When people said their jajamygeon was good, it was true!! It's also so worth the price!

When that craving for Korean black bean noodles and spicy seafood noodles calls, you answer. This spot offers just that, so we were in. The service was fantastic, with a friendly lady who accommodated us the whole meal. She even dropped napkins at our tables when we started eating. I originally wanted the Small, but was convinced into getting the Medium Tangsooyook ($23.99). With the other dish, I think we could have gotten the Small for 2 people, because it's a lot of fried meat! You can really taste the batter. It wasn't very crispy, but was addicting to eat, especially when drenched in the sauce. The Jjamjjamyeon ($15.99), which combines the black bean noodles with spicy seafood noodle soup, was fantastic! The seafood flavor is always more flavorful, and to be honest, not very spicy here! But whenever you're feeling the heat, you can always switch on over to the soft and sweet palette of the black bean sauce for a break. The best casual quick meal! At the end, we were presented with Yakult bottles. While this wasn't the best you can have in the area, definitely take advantage of the lunch prices they have going on during weekdays!

I was craving jjajangmyun, jjamppong, and tangsuyuk, so my friend recommended that we come try Hainan since it was in the area. We ordered the jjajangmyun (where my friend specified to the waiter to make the jjajang sauce fresh), the sweet rice tansuyuk (pork), and jjamppong. I think the fresh sauce and onions elevated the taste of the jjajangmyun. The tansuyuk was crispy, mochi-like, and airy at the same time. The sauce on the side paired perfectly, and had bits of veggies inside, so you can get a different experience with each bite. The jjamppong was good, but nothing special. The noodles for both dishes were the same but were both bouncy and chewy. I would definitely come here again to satisfy my cravings in the future.

Great place for Korean Chinese food. Everything was delicious. My favorite dish was the Crispy Chilli Chips with Fried Shrimp. It was so so good I couldn't stop eating it. I really liked the chilli chips. Extremely crispy and not spicy. The Fried Chicken with Cold Sweet and Sour Chili Sauce was to die for. The sweetness, spiciness and sourness was just perfectly balanced. My old favorite Fried Pork with Sweet Sour Sauce and Noodles in Black Bean Sauce are must-haves!

The most delicious Korean Chinese food in Queens! I love a good jajangmyeon and jjampong so I had to try this spot. It was my first time going and I will definitely be back! Everything the servers and owners recommended were incredible. My family has Korean Chinese food pretty regularly but usually have our go to orders. We got to try so many new dishes and I think we will have to add these to our go to order. Some of my regular favorites are the Fried Pork w/ Sweet and Sour Sauce, Stir-Fried Clams with Veggies and Noodles, and Jajangmyeon. My new favorite is the Fried Chicken with Spicy Sour Soy Sauce and it had to be my favorite dish of the day. We got Jjajangmyeon & Tangsutuk as our main dishes! We also got the sweet tea & a small order of jjamppong. The portions here were very big. They were good and the price was super affordable. They have lunch specials as well which are super cheap if you're looking for a quick fix! All of this was less than $50 (um steal!!!)

Was about to head home and spotted this place across my parked car. Then, I debated for a good 5 min to decide whether I should dine out or go home and eat. I checked google map and the traffic was too heavy (shhh...) so I decided to check this place out. I got sam sun jjajangmyun and it tasted good, although not the best I had to be honest. The owner of the restaurant was very friendly and he frequently checked to make sure everything is good though:). Overall, had a good experience. If you are near by, give this place a try!

Came on a rainy Saturday night, place was busy with dine-in customers and also pickup/delivery orders. We got the jjajangmyeon, brisket jjamppong, scallop, chili shrimp and beef tangsuyuk. The entree dishes were definitely the star of the meal, the noodle dishes were underwhelming. Table service was lacking as they were swamped. Would go back for entree dishes, maybe give noodles another try.

First time and wanted to see if their jjajangmyeon 짜장면 is legit. My usual go to place has been joonggookjib 중국집. I honestly think this place jjajangmyeon is better altho it's a bit too salty. But nice consistency of texture and not too watery either. I've asked for a pair of scissors to cut so feel free to ask and cut the noodles. Restaurant is clean and service was great. The regular jjajangmyeon is actually really affordable at $9.99. I like how they also give a yogurt drink with your check (obv not a dealbreaker but it was still nice) Definitely coming back to try their jjambbong 짬뽕 as they have interesting kinds on the menu!

This place is fairly new and this was my 3rd time coming to dine here. I'd say they are pretty good, there are a lot of Korean-Chinese restaurants in Flushing that serve this type of cuisine but this place is the only place to put peas and potatoes in their black bean sauce. The black bean noodles are the most popular item on their menu. Food comes out super fast, in Korea these place are considered fast food. Less than 8mins after placing our order our food starts to arrive. The KungPao Chicken and Sweet & Sour pork come out first. Then moments later the noodles arrive. Food is always good, service is great. Feels like a family owned and operated business. Tips: go with a group and order fried dumplings.

Delicious and yummy. Really enjoy this spot for some Korean Chinese food. The service was admirable and attentive. The portions were really great and the ambiance is comfortable and pretty spacious. Definitely will be coming here in the near future again.

I have no appetizing photos of the DELICIOUS 짜장면 i had here but please do yourself a favor and take your besties here for lunch! I got a 얼큰이짜장면 w 되지고기 탕수육(small) The staff is small and work hard to keep a light environment and efficient work flow. Perfect meal on a rainy day :)

As a Korean-Chinese restaurant they have variety of creative dishes aside from traditional dishes you can find from regular Korean Chinese restaurants. One dish you must try here is the oyster-broth white jjampong!! This dish is to die for so I recommend everyone to try it. Very thick, hearty and the aroma of oyster, seafood combined with variety of vegetables. Perfect! They also have fried chicken dish that comes with salad and special sweet and sour sauce(yuringi), fried shrimp with creamy white sauce and their leek/beef japchae..I love them all. So scrumptious!! Some of the old waitresses there are not too friendly but whatever lol their food is just too good to pass! :)

I originally came in because of their banner listing Jjangmyun for $5.99 as their grand opening deal. But when I actually sat down and looked at their menu, we decided to go with their lunch special. I came in on a weekday around 1:30pm. There was surprisingly a decent amount of people already seated (not super full, but not empty). My friend and I were immediately attracted by their lunch special menu. The lunch special combos offered 4 different things on one huge plate for a fairly good price. I was sold. In the end, i opted for combo #4. The lunch special combo is very satisfying. I got try to their jjangmyun, the salad, 1 piece of fried dumpling and the garlic chicken (kang poong gi). They give a decent amount of chicken and noddles. To my surprise, I felt kind of bloated after eating everything. To top it off, they give you a small drink of yakult at the end of the meal before you leave. I would definitely recommend this and would come again for it.

The Jajangmyeon(Black Bean Sauce Noodles) was a steal for only 6 dollars. I thought it would be a reduced portion size, but it's definitely enough to fill you up and then some. I appreciated the Chunjang/Jjajang sauce because it wasn't too salty or too sweet. I would have preferred that the pork in the sauce not be fried, but it was still good. The noodles were chewy as expected. Portion sizes of other items seemed very large. Come visit before the grand opening offer ends!

I love the black bean noodles because it so good. With the service is amazing with quick water and sides. Right when the restaurant opened a lot of People came in because it so good here. The best black bean noodles I have ever had. The vibes are awesome with the music too.

I always have Tangsooyook there(sweet & sour beef). It's always good. Today I just had Chilly Shrimp. OMG this is the best! so Good~~~

Had a craving for Korean Chinese food, and a brief search on Yelp showed that there were not too many options available for outdoor dining. Most restaurants were offering delivery only, but Hainan came through. Don't be deceived by their street side storefront - their outdoor dining is set up in the back, which the host will take you to via a walk through their indoor seating and their kitchen (which thankfully looked nice and clean). The outdoor seating has a modest set up, four picnic style tables under a large tarp tent, but provided enough insulation for you to take off your winter coat and eat comfortably. We ordered a little bit of everything - the regular and spicy Jajangmyun, Tangsuyuk and Mapo Tofu. Everything was up to expectations, and exactly how I imagined it to taste whenever I got a craving watching Korean dramas. One of my friends I went with is Korean, and he said that it was the most authentic Korean Chinese food he's had in New York. Service was quick and not in your face, always around to refill your barley tea and not judgmental at all when we ordered way too much soju. Outdoor dining during COVID still has a lot of growing pains, but Hainan is doing a lot of things right for providing a cozy meal out.

Always ate Chinese Korean food growing up but never been here. This place is something special. The food is incredible and they have a wide menu of things I've never heard of. The service is excellent. I need to come back at least 3 more times to go through the menu!

Stumbled upon this restaurant in the neighborhood. We wanted to try something new-- I'm glad I did! I ordered the fried pork with sweet&sour sauce along with the mixed jjamyung/seafood soup. The fried portion didn't seem overwhelming heavy or oily. I also love the mixed noodle option because we couldn't decide between the 2. The perfect amount of food and everything was delicious. The staff was also super friendly and continuously checked in on us. I would definitely come back and highly recommend.

My boyfriend and I ate here when it first opened and there was a grand opening deal - I believe it was $5-6 for Jjajangmian which is SUCH a good deal. Honestly, I didn't think the restaurant itself was anything too out of the ordinary for a Chinese/Korean meal. The chicken we got was good but on the pricier side. I believe it was about $20 for the whole dish. When you first bite into it, there is a juicy crunch to it with a lemon flavor. I would recommend eating it with rice though, as the fried part can get a little overwhelming standalone. Every dish here was on the pricier side on the menu, with everything averaging around ~15-20 for your entrees. I also don't believe they have the Jjajangmian promotion anymore so I honestly wouldn't come again. Ambience: 3/5 Food: 4/5 Price: 3/5

I am Korean. I would give 2.5 stars. The reviews with 4&5 stars are missing out and never experienced the good dishes... the gganpoongki (깐풍기) was not crispy at all. Crispiness is vital when it comes to tangsooyook(탕수육) and gganpoongki(깐풍기). The jjampong did not have any deep taste in the soup. Only the jjajangmyun was decent/average... unfortunatley, we will not return. We were disappointed...

Alas I tried it again and I was disappointed yet again. The chapssal tang soo yook was not so chapssal-y. And the jjajangmyun was a bit greasy. One of the biggest downfall is the fact that they don't use THE best kimchi (Hansol) which they sell across the street like dabin used to. I refuse to believe it's the same chef. It may have been the sous chef possibly or maybe they use entirely new equipment/ingredients? It just ain't the same. How unfortunate. The only reason it's not a 2 is because customer service is great.

Love a good jjajangmyun place! They're currently promoting $5.99 for their opening special. I totally recommend that and their portions are HUGE. Someone ordered the seafood jjampong and it looked amazing. But u recommend u get the fried pork in sweet and sour sauce aka tangsooyuk. Get the one with rice flour batter. The texture was so chewy filled with chunks of meat. We loved it so much were gonna go back. They give u a mini Korean yogurt as their dessert. U can easily find parking around the small streets :) they have large spaces for big groups too! IG eatsumbap

Came here because my pastor said this was the best jjajangmyun jip (black bean noodle house) around here and gotta say it really was memorable! I'm a huge fan of the jjajangmyun (black bean noodle) in "nunjjajang/ korean noodle house" and the tansooyook/ kkangpoongi (sweet & sour pork/ sweet & spicy shrimp) in "joong koop jip"; however, this place has good jjajangmyun AND tangsooyook-- best of both worlds! Honestly just try this place and you'll know how underrated it is...

This is the best of best Chinese restaurant in New York. The noodles are particularly chewy, so all noodle dishes are delicious. For me, 팔보채-palbochae(on the iron lpate), 칠리새우-chili shrimp,짬뽕-spicy noodle soup) and 콩국수-bean noodle were so delicious. The staff are friendly, store is clean and it's the most delicious restaurant in New York.

It's such a great restaurant that I've been here for few time a week! Every foods are so delicious. Especially, Stir-fried Clams is the best. I'm ordering this every time I go, even if I get full. The service is also good too. Highly recommend this place.

Came here for lunch. Got two orders of lunch special with chicken and noodles with black bean sauce. One was sweet and sour chicken and the other was spicy chicken. Came with only one gyoza and salad. It was good portion. The flavors were normal, not too salty, sweet nor bland. The chicken was a bit crunchy and maybe a little over fried. It wasn't busy when we stopped by. The waitresses were friendly and had refilled the cups with tea. Parking was on street.

Ok. This was our goto spot for jjajangmyun from the very beginning! Their food taste changed after awhile so we havent gone awhile but decided to give it another try. Jjajangmyun tasted good and jjamppong tasted really good.. but as I was eating I found the "extra" ingredient. Some fruit fly! Taste was good but they need to take extra care in the food making process! Totally ruined my appetite..

Really underrated restaurant but I come here very often for the fire seafood noodle soup () because the broth is delicious and the servers and very sweet and nice. The tangsooyook is so good here and the prices are fairly reasonable. Portion sizes are perfect and the service is subpar!

Not your typical Korean restaurant. I am assuming that is because their food has some Chinese influence. Food was good. Service was good. Price was reasonable. Great family type restaurant. We have the Pal Bo Chae and seafood noodle soup. It is unique and different from most Korean food. The beer was nice and cold. That was a plus. It is more reasonable priced than the restaurants just a few block away on Northern Blvd. Great place for family dining without with line.

This place has really awesome noodles! We went on a Saturday around 1 and it wasnt too crowded, there were also dividers between the tables which was a good precaution (it also gave us privacy). They served us banchan of chopped onions, a small cup of black bean sauce, radish and kimchi and cups of tea before taking our order. Food arrived pretty fast, the sweet and sour fried pork ($15.95 for a small) came out hot and crispy! The nuggets of actual pork werent huge, but still tasted fabulous in the sauce which was littered with slices of cucumber, onion, wood ear and pineapple! The black bean noodles ($7.95) were kind of sweeter than what i am used to. The noodles themselves were really chewy and cooked to perfection. The spicy seafood noodle soup ($12.95) was the dish i was craving the most, especially after reading michelle zauner's "crying in hmart." It had a huge shrimp (with the head), a handful of mussels and a melange of random seafood bits. The broth was savory and spicy, and ladled on top of the same type of noodles we had with the black bean dish. The portion was huge and we were able to split it amongst three people! At the end of the meal, the waiter gave us the check with full sized yakults for each of us! How sweet :) the bathroom was clean, we didnt feel rushed, and they were attentive with refilling our tea. I will definitely be coming for a third visit!

2nd time here for jjajangmyun but we decided to order "is it jjajang?" From the curiosity. It was a solemn choice! Its a mixture of jjajang and jjampong. It tastes awesome!!! I cant wait for my third visit already.

Food is usually top notch but something strange about the jamppong. Correct me if I'm wrong but who puts an egg in this? Totally ruins the deep spicy flavor. Did they run out of ingredients? First time I've ever seen an egg in this dish.

At first I tried out this restaurant with my friend and all the food was really good, Jjajangmyon was very tasty without being either too salty or MSG after taste. Jjamppong was my fav there, 'yurinki' was also very tasty. All the ingredients were fresh, good quality and even whole calamary was on top of the jjamppong! So I brought my group of 8friends there, ordered bunch of different dishes, everyone enjoyed the food. Food in general not too greasy not salty unlike ordinary Chinese Korean restaurant. All the servers were very friendly, since the place opened resently, it's very clean and simple but very comfortable to enjoy your food. Definitely want to go there again and try other dishes.

We ordered fire seafood spicy noodle and fried clams. Fire seafood spicy noodle was super spicy but it was delicious My favorite was fried clams with noodle! It has little spicy taste which gives a kick to the dish. Highly recommend!! And my tip is that order extra noodle into the dish. It will serve 2-3 people!
