Google
Great menu with lots of variety, I went with a large group and we all got very different food and enjoyed it a lot. The patio felt nice and secluded and our server was friendly and the food came out quickly.

This place has a killer lineup of craft beers, best for trying local gems and global picks alike. If cocktails are more your thing, the Caesar here is GREAT. Shared the hummus platter, and wow huge portion, fresh veggies, plenty of pita. I recommend seating on the patio and enjoying the summer weather

Google
The service & atmosphere were the best features. I was disappointed in the food. 1st in the lack of selection for non-dairy items. That ruled out any bread including the burger buns. They may get their breads from a local baker, but milk doesn’t need to be it. 2nd I ordered the most expensive item and although the salmon tasted like salmon, the salsa topping was a wet crumble, not a sauce as I expected and fell off the salmon. To me that's like having gravy that won't stick to the potatoes.

I finally tried this place after paying by for so many years. I had a delicious burger. The upcharge for salad is a little steep and surprisingly not mentioned. I would have said hold the fries as I am cutting all fried foods....

James at the bar is great, keeps you laughing, and makes a fabulous drink. Love the pictures of patrons dogs and the Playlist of music was fabulous. Real everyone seemed welcome vibe!

Banana Bread FREE /10 - Not overly sweet, has a distinct banana flavour and texture is moist. However, the bottom is denser due to gravity, and is overall quite gummy. Fried Chicken Benny $21 7.5/10 - Seared cornbread on the bottom is a nice change of pace. Not too dry but has a grainy texture, the crust has a satisfying crisp/slightly crunchy texture, with a fragrant corn flavour and niblets of corn inside. Fried chicken pieces were moist dark meat with a seasoned crunchy batter, but I wish the batter was thinner. One of the poached eggs wasn't jammy, but the other was. Hollandaise sauce is rich and tasty. I fought that cornbread was too crumbly to easily get everything in each bite, and I think the combo of egg, chicken and cornbread was good, but not spectacular and missing some umami. Served with fried potato wedges that are crispy and tender on inside for bigger pieces but the smaller pieces were well-done crunchy. Served with a slice of pineapple, watermelon, and cantaloupe.

Good food, comfortable atmosphere. Only thing missing was our Aussie who stayed home! One thing that surprised us was soft drinks were not refillable and each drink was an additional charge.

Enjoyed a nice dinner here with a large of group of friends. Our server was very friendly and quite patient with our group as it took as a while to get our ducks in a row. I ordered the peanut butter, bacon, and cheese burger (with fries) and the Moscow Mule with spiced rum. The burger was quite good, but could have used a bit more peanut butter for extra flavor. I really enjoyed the cocktail: It was refreshing and came in a nice mug that felt cool in the afternoon heat. Overall, I would definitely recommend this spot, as there was something for everyone and the service was top-notch!

Yelp
It was our first night in Toronto and luckily for us we were staying close to Hair of the Dog. We were pretty tired from our day of travel so we just ended up ordering takeout. I will say this is a cool pub though since we did come back just for drinks a few times during our trip too. I will say their menu is huge. I really has something for everyone. I bunch of different burgers and sandwiches, poutines of course, and a number of entrees that are kinda all over the place. It being my first night and my first time in Canada if figured I had to get the a poutine and the one I went with was the Duck Poutine. Within 20 minutes our food was ready for pick up. I will say I love how they do the poutines for takeout. They have the gravy on the side with the Cheese Curds on the hot fries so they were nice and melty. The fries also kept their crisp which was also very just. I made sure to cover everything in their Veal Gravy which had the Roasted Duck in it. The gravy was great and so were the fries and cheese curds. I will say the duck was just alright. That was really the only issue I had with it. I think the duck just loses a lot of it's flavor due to the gravy. I would probably just get a regular poutine next time. I also got to try Ashley's Butter Chicken Grilled Cheese which was also good. I was very cheesy with a great cheese pull. I also had a lot of chicken it in. I will say it did more so seem like Curried Chicken not Butter Chicken. Just didn't have the creaminess you would expect from Butter Chicken. I also tried their Pan-Fried Perogies which were great. You can never go wrong with a fresh perogi. Like I said we came back to Hair of the Dog a number of times for drinks so i or sure would recommended giving them a try plus they have something for everyone. I'm sure if we ate at the restaurant and didn't get takeout that the food would be even better.

Yelp
Been going to Hair of The Dog for years. Service is great, food is tasty and in the summer their patio is a great spot to eat.

Yelp
We had just arrived and wanted something quick and good. They were thankfully able to seat us on a Friday night with no wait! The waiter was friendly, the drinks were good, and the place had a fun vibe where everyone seemed to be having a good time. The food was also decent--we ordered the Indian curry, which was delicious and spicy, and the fish and chips, which tasted pretty standard. Would come back!
google avatar

Mohniesh H.

Yelp
I visited Hair of the Dog Pub a while ago with two friends, and it's a great spot, especially for dates--the upper floor has a cozy vibe. It's best to book ahead, though, as it gets busy; we had to wait a bit for a table. But once seated, the experience was fantastic! The food was delicious, and the staff was friendly and attentive. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Kathy L.

Yelp
It's a cute neighborhood pub for drinks and hang out, BUT don't have high expectations on food. Service was good too. They were able to accommodate 8 of us walk-in, no reservations. And servers were very approachable.

Yelp
Grabbed a lunch and some bevies here with a friend. Item of note - they have a great covered patio on one side that's really cozy in the summer. Lots of great brews on tap including Belgium Delirium. If you're a beer lover, it's a keeper. Wonderful flavor. But watch out - those DTs are high alcohol content. They are refreshing so easy drinking but may have a "buzz" effect. Good news though - natural ingredients so you won't feel too bad the next day. Lol On busy days, service may be a tad slow, but a nice place to go where you don't have to feel rushed! My friend had the Beef Tenderloin Tacos which he said was very good. I had a daily special which was Chicken with a Mole sauce, rice and fresh veg. The mole sauce was so so but the meal overall was fine. Will definitely go back and try another menu option but will stick with that Delirium Beer!

Yelp
Nice neighbourhood spot that has a dog friendly patio. We were seated outside with our dog but it was definitely a bit cramped as we were sat by the kitchen door entrance. Our server was friendly but they were clearly very busy at 6pm on a holiday so the service wasn't as attentive as I would've liked. we ordered a burger, poutine and a butter chicken grilled cheese. The food was decent but nothing to write home about. My burger was a tad dry, but the poutine and grilled cheese were pretty good! This wouldn't be my first choice for a dinner/bar option if I didn't have a dog but definitely a good option for dog friendly restaurants!
google avatar

Rob N.

Yelp
Ordered a butter chicken grilled cheese and replaced the coleslaw with Caesar salad. While the grilled cheese is just as advertised and is a butter chicken grilled cheese and the portion sizes are large, the rest of the things I ordered were alright. The drinks were very well priced! The service was also good, not too fast so as to let us enjoy our drinks, and not to slow such that it gets boring. The

Yelp
A nice pub with a great ambiance. Have multiple spaces - the high table area, lower table area, first floor, second floor, and heated patio - all of which had different vibes. Came here after work with my colleague who also loves beer. I expected good/unique selections of local craft beers but their line-up was not impressive. Many beers can be bought at LCBO. There were more imported beers - which I was not interested in. The draft beer selection was smaller than other beer places as well. Had Left Field- West Coast Swing IPA and Indie Ale House- Balrog DIPA - both are great ones. But I did not feel that this place have the good serving technique necessary to present those unique craft beers.
google avatar

Shelly N.

Yelp
Loved everything! Friendly service, cozy location, great tap selection and delicious food. We had a curry style soup on the specials menu and chicken pot pie. Both were excellent!
google avatar

Ian E.

Yelp
If you are looking for good craft beer in the Village this is where you want to go. Choose from one of two of their house beers or from wide selection of craft/import draught. They also have an extensive bottle and can list to chose from. The food is quite good pub fare as well, great place to start your night in the Village with good food and good drinks before heading out to one of the night life venues.

Yelp
Good spot for a few pints. It's a little pricy but I do love their patio. One time I got food here it was tasty! I had a chicken sandwich and it was delicious.
google avatar

Pietra M.

Yelp
Service was great, very friendly and kind. The server explained the dishes and answered all my questions with patience. The environment is nice, they also have a patio with a fountain. The sound of the water is so relaxing while eating and chatting. About the food I was not too happy tho. The tater tots were okay, not oily, crunchy, normal. The crab cakes were very bad, I'm sorry to say this, but it was disgusting. I don't think the meat was bad because I didn't feel bad, neither my friends. But it was definitely tasting weird, I believe it's just not a good recipe. :( I need to come back to try other things and give it another chance! :)

Yelp
Food was delicious!! Especially the fries!! Service was great... but the atmosphere was my favourite part.

Yelp
I lived in this area of Toronto for about 3 years and HOTD was a standard on my visits to local pubs/restaurants. Friendly, warm, great taps, and a solid kitchen with a small upstairs patio as well as a generous street-level one.
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
Hair of the Dog is a cute neighborhood restaurant/ bar. I sat at the bar, but I believe they have an upstairs as well. The service was friendly and the wine was good. It was everything I was looking for in an east bite to eat. My only complaint was that they didn't list all of the ingredients in the salad I had. As someone with food allergies, I always read the full description so I don't get surprises (like picking all the onions out of my salad).
google avatar

Keven S.

Yelp
This place had a buzzing atmosphere, the staff were brilliant. They have 4 patios to choose from, it's dog friendly. The food was amazing, I had the duck, my son the pasta, my daughter in law the tube melt w/ceased salad and my grand daughter the butter chicken. The food was delicious, tasty and we will go back at least once a week. Try it you will agree. Keven Simmonds Sorry didn't take any pictures

Yelp
If you are lucky enough to cross the door and Tommy is working the bar , you picked the perfect evening ,excellent conversation, just because he engages . The food is awesome , looking forward to my return visit .

Yelp
We came here for brunch with friends on a Saturday. It wasn't too busy at the time, and the service was good! The food came in pretty generous portions. I ordered the fish and chips, which was okay, but I would probably order something else the next time I'm here. The fries were good though!
google avatar

Yelp
This is one place I should have reviewed long ago! There are only a few places in the Village that has a more upscale feel than pub. It's not quite like the pub atmosphere you'll find at the usual standards of O'Gradys or the Churchmouse and Firkin. This place is where I go to for what I believe to be the best fried chicken. I've had in the city - so far. Southern Fried Chicken with mashed potatoes, gravy, veggies and cornbread. The cornbread is amazing! I've had this dish so many times and each time it has been consistent. I've not had a bad meal here whether it be an appetizer or another entree. Solid grub. I haven't tried it but my friends swear if the chicken isn't available to go for the butter chicken sandwich. There are 2 floors plus a beautiful patio if you can get in it in the summer. It's one of my faves. It's covered with greenery and kinda secluded. The only thing is sometimes they get so busy the customer service can be a weee bit off. Plus if you are a beer person I've found that most beer aficionados have a hard time finding really good beer here.

Yelp
Cozy, good ambiance, great playlist, good food. Perfect place to be with friends on a cold winter night. (Also appreciate that although it was dark, it wasn't too dimly lit and I could still read the menu). Poutine was delicious. We got an order to split with the table as an appetizer. It was Saturday so I ordered the special of the day, the chicken pot pie. It was more like a bowl of pot pie filling with pie dough over the top, so it was missing that bottom pie crust texture. Nevertheless it was hearty and warm. My friends ordered the tuna melt, southern fried chicken, and lamb stew and all loved their dishes. Can't really go wrong with anything on their menu!
google avatar

Andrew J.

Yelp
Great weekend service, good food and delicious fries. Unassuming looks from the outside but it's warm and cozy inside, and pics of people's dogs on the walls to make you smile.

Raymond H.

Yelp
Upscale pub and restaurant at 425 Church Street in Downtown Toronto. Incredible food and extensive cocktail, wine and craft beer menu. Their award winning patio is the perfect place for a quiet lunch or amazing brunch and dogs are permitted on the patio. Friendly staff and quick service.
google avatar

Owen R.

Yelp
I appreciate and like to see unique (not chain) restaurants flourish. I found it too loud, cramped, tables are so close together, I could hear every word of the conversations on either side of us. Nachos were average and pricey.
google avatar

Michael R.

Yelp
Unfortunately we didn't have the best experience. We stopped in because our AirBnb hosts were the owner and they gave us a $25 off coupon. Just came for drinks after dinner our last night! The atmosphere is very cute and cozy. The patio is a great area to sit and relax underneath string lights and surrounded by trees and ivy. Very very pretty! We were sat kind of in the back by a fountain which seemed cute! Our waitress quickly served us some water and brought us our drinks we ordered...and then she disappeared. No one checked on us and it didn't seem like anyone was assigned to our table area. We finished our first round and sat around for about 10-15 minutes before we finally flagged down a waiter to order another round. He was nice and attentive after we did that which was nice! Just not sure what happened with our original girl. Almost like she got off her shift and just left without notice. The drinks were good though. We ordered two Moscow mules to start which were good..strong..but good! And then a German beer and a glass of sangria both good. The beer list was amazing from the Canada, German, and Belgium regions. Very impressive. If you are looking for a low key place for a drink with a significant other or friend this is a good place! Not sure about the food though. Hopefully the service experience is better.

Yelp
One of my favorite places.. good conversation, food and drinks. Everyone is really friendly! The food is great comfort food! Chicken pot pie & Vegan Burrito.... Nice with drinks! Short distance to bars..... It's a community! Stretch and grow. Back to #hairofthedog Cool guy from Ireland behind the bar fun to chat with.... I'd go again. Worth checking out.
google avatar

Dave J.

Yelp
It's bar food, 5 star is based on expectation. Duck poutine was great, duck was cooked correctly and pulled nicely. Fries were crisp enough to handle the gravy for quite some time. Also had a squash soup that was perfectly seasoned and salted. Portions were large, food was well priced.
google avatar

Kathy C.

Yelp
Been to this place in multiple times during lunch hours. Their patio is spacious enough to keep all tables in social distancing during the covid. But I don't think they have enough Covid practices eg. offering hand wipes or hand sanitizer near each tables. (Not just by the door).
google avatar

Ling M.

Yelp
Nice ambiance, but not so wowed by the food. Had the potato skins appetizer and the bowl of mussels. the mussels came in a nice sauce, but quite a few of them had sand/hard bits in them. And despite the potato skins being loaded with toppings, I found that it lacked flavour. Maybe a good place to hang out and have some drinks, but I wouldn't return just for the food.
google avatar

Yelp
Interesting pub located on Church and Carlton. Two floors and a nice patio area. The washroom is located on the top floor as their main floor has very limited seating. My friend and I came here on a Monday evening. They have a wide selection of beers - I had a chance to their the sparkling dry cider and the blood orange cider - both were very good and recommended if you love cider (a bit on the sweet side of a dry cider though)! We weren't too hungry so we thought to try their famous nachos and share a starter poutine. Their nachos were delicious in the beginning, but because the "chips" were deep fried, it got a bit sickening towards the end. Their poutine was... terrible - the fries were over fried, and where was the gravy?! We ended up asking for ketchup... Anyways, my verdict? Come for the drinks and have low expectations for food!
google avatar

Bonnie W.

Yelp
It has a nice patio vibe but the food was mediocre. Their patio is also dog friendly so you can grab drinks with your four legged friends too
google avatar

Yelp
Came here for breakfast after an early morning flight on a recommendation. We had to wait in a line outside before being seated. Some woman was having a hissy fit with the door guy. So I wasn't sure if we should eat here. When we finally went in, the whole dining room was empty and everyone was on the patio, and we were sat in the corner of the dining room. It was a little funny since we were the only ones in there. We ordered mules which were good. I ordered the eggs benedict which came with home fries and a cup of fruit. The hollandaise was good but it would've been nice if the home fries were made with onions and/or bellpeppers to give them a little character, since they took up most of the plate. I'm sure this place is great for some, but I was a little underwhelmed since it has a catchy name. Perhaps the evenings are much more interesting. The staff was all very nice and the space is interesting.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday around 6pm with my girlfriend and we were interested in appetizers and drinks... let me tell you about their crab cakes... WOW. Get them. Do it. SO GOOD. Top 3 crab cakes i've honestly ever had (comes with 2 medium sized ones). We both opted to get the beer flights! It came with 4 mini beers, but was a good opportunity for us to try a variety of beers! The strawberry rhubarb was one our favorite beers! Also, their was one with grapefruit - I cant remember the particular name, but it was very yum. The service was very good and our waitress was nice and attentive even though she had all the tables on our side outside to attend to. It was fully packed outside when we went and no one was really inside, but still a good vibe! I wish we tried more food, but next time! I would definitely come back.

Gordon K.

Yelp
This place is pretty bustling before COVID hit. It does the trick and it's been pretty consistent in quality and quantity. The food is not going to be the greatest, but it will be decent. Price-wise, I think it's a bit high, but the service has been excellent every time I have gone and I've never had to wait longer than what was reasonable for any of the food. Don't go in expecting to be WOW'ed out of your mind from pub food and this will do the trick if you're just looking for a reasonable night out. I usually order the burger. Price: 3.5/5 Service: 5/5 Price Point: 4/5 Overall: 4/5

Yelp
Went for a fun experience and just a drink. The ambience was lively. Will come again and try some different cuisine.
google avatar

Yelp
Had a fantastic steak and eggs. Very tasty and well prepared. Service was tops, and the price was right. Oh, and the beer was great!

Camille R.

Yelp
Came to celebrate three year anniversary with my husband to this place, food was excepcional! I had the fish and chips and my husband had the chicken pot pie. We asked the server for recommendations on beers and were offered a German brew that cannot remember the name, but everything was so good. 5 starts to locations, food, and service.
google avatar

Yelp
I've tried crab cake benedicts at other brunch places, mainly in Markham but this place has the best crab cakes I've tried. Their other food items that we've tried, chicken & waffles and huevos rancheros, are also delicious. I also couldn't stop eating the side potatoes, they were so crispy and just how I like it. After ordering our food and before the food arrived, we got complimentary mini muffins which I believe were carrot muffins. Those were delicious and I'm glad they came before the food that we ordered because I was so hungry. Their patio is nicely decorated with vibe leaves all around, and I would recommend their patio over sitting inside. The feel I got walking through the inside of the restaurant was tight, dark and stuffy.

Yelp
We walked in for Brunch on the weekend and it was by far, the best meal I had in Toronto. We were immediately seated and given menus. However, I knew immediately that I was getting the Crab Cake Benedict and that was the best decision I made that day. The crab cake was thick so they didn't serve the Benedict atop an English Muffin or biscuit or anything. Yes, that's how big the crab cake was. I didn't even miss the bread and that's saying a lot because I loves me some bread. Oh, and it was soooo flavorful. Just thinking about this makes me want a crab cake right now, but, no, I'm sitting at work writing this Yelp review. The potatoes they served alongside the dish were outstanding. Perfectly cooked with the perfect amount of flavor. Not too salty, but just enough salt. Not too crunchy, but a slight crisp to them. I ordered a Caesar and this just might be the best Caesar in town. Also, it was reasonably priced and I appreciated that because I was not trying to pay $15 for a cocktail that day. My bf ordered the peameal bacon benedict and he said he loved it. I didn't try it because I was deep into my crab cake benny. The service was outstanding. It seemed like the staff enjoyed being there and made sure your experience was enjoyable as well.

Yelp
Having brunch in the patio here feels almost like branching in a secret garden! Such beautiful patio space, surrounded by beautiful plants and leaves. Almost magical! My girlfriend and I came here early Sunday morning to avoid the crowd and was able to secure the seat by a cute little fountain; oh-so-perfect for Instagram stories ;) Now onto the good stuff - the food. We first were greeted by 2 free mini muffins that were delish! Between the two of us, we had the crabcake benedict and the huevos rancheros. The crabcake benedict was really great, except that my poached eggs were set to hard, and not medium as I requested. However, the server was very kind and offered to have them redone. I decided not to considering how much I enjoyed the crabcake - I was in a good mood! The crabcake was served as a substitute to the English muffin and was very generous in the portion! They also tasted amazing with lots of crab meat. The hollandaise sauce was also really great, flavorful and neither too thick nor too watery. The huevos rancheros was also really great! Loved the burst of flavor that came with every bite. Service here was also wonderful and all smiles all around. Loved it and will definitely be coming back to this gem!

Yelp
This place was seriously incredible. Came here on Easter for brunch, and everything was superb. I got the crab cake benedict with a side caesar salad and I'd say it was some of the dankest noms I've had in Canada. The crab cake tested so fresh, the egg was perfectly poached, and the salad was made with arugula which I absolutely love. The bloody caesars were also sooooo delightful, with delicious pickled vegetables and lots of flavor. They also brought out some fresh warm muffins which were sooooo tasty and paired perfectly with my coffee. I tried some of my cousin's breakfast poutine that had butter chicken and was interesting, but also quite delicious. We sat outside and it was an ever-so pleasant experience overall. Would definitely recommend if you're in Toronto.

Yelp
This was my second time here for brunch and I thought my first experience over a year ago was positive so I returned. Arrived for brunch and received a table outside. Complimentary mini carrot cinnamon muffins were served which was a nice touch. Once I received my food, I got flashbacks that, no actually, last time wasn't great and why am I back? I ordered the chicken and waffles, a special just for brunch on the weekends and we also had the butter chicken grilled cheese from the regular menu. Either the waffle was bigger than at other restaurants or the chicken was the smallest I've ever had on waffles, but I think the latter was true. The chicken was extremely dry and overdone. The dish came with fruit and the pineapple was pretty much at the end of its life. The butter chicken grilled cheese was delicious and very different, but they mixed up the order and gave us regular fries instead of home fries. However, thumbs up for an original twist to butter chicken. I was so hungry I ate half of the Grilled cheese on top of my chicken and waffles. Don't think I'll be back for more.

Yelp
Patio! Patio! Patio!! Just like the patio at Hair of The Dog! Having a drink here waiting for my friend to arrive is such a treat! Shady? Sunny? Rooftop? Pick whatever you like! Services here is top notch! Friendly staffs which made me feel comfortable and right at home. I wish I have a patio like that at home!

Yelp
Totally different experience this time. Grabbed a seat on the patio - I see why everyone loves this HUGE patio. There's a little bit for everyone. Couples who want to have a nice dinner, groups who want a wild night out, or a few friend who just want to have a couple of drinks over appetizers. I came for the romantic dinner. I started with the rose sangria. I love all things rose and all things sangria. It was delicious. My bf got the house beer. He wasn't a fan, but there were so many drinks options so he just switched it up. We split the potato skins to start. Aka the potato chip nachos. Need I say more? He got the steak sandwich for dinner. He wasn't that happy with it b/c the flank steak was a bit dry but the fries were good. I had the fried chicken on recommendation of our server. I was very happy with it. Deliciously crispy, well spiced, homemade batter with a juicy chicken inside. The jalapeño cornbread was awesome - I wish I had more. Buttery, velvety mashed potatoes and fresh veggies on the side. Our server was great as well. A bit slow, but it was a busy Friday night. All in all, I am so glad I gave this place a second chance b/c I have been won over for sure!

Yelp
Last time I came here a rat ran across my foot on the patio. That feeling when a rat puts its weight on you... can't forget that. The staff just closed the back door that led into the kitchen and acted like it ain't no thang. Well, it was a thang.. a very big thang. I can still feel the weight of the rat on my foot. I'm scarred for life. Thankfully I had boots otherwise I'd be trying to get a rabies shot. Food quality appears to have gone down. The rats must like it though. Decent spot for drinks but I wouldn't eat here again. The indoor experience is nice and cozy.

Yelp
Came here for late night drinks on a Friday night. Arrived at 10:30pm and it was still pretty lively. We were lucky enough to grab a seat on the patio, where the ambiance is very cozy with the greenery and summer lights.

Yelp
Excellent brunch fare! The hash browns are so good. And menu items are fairly priced. Only drip coffee available though, no fancy espresso drinks. Brunch on weekends is a busy time for this place so if you're in a rush - go elsewhere. Chill vibes here

Yelp
Eh, the best Caesar salad in town? Maybe I'm not a salad expert so I didn't have the Wow moment when I tried. The fried chicken was good. Crispy skin and tender soft meat. But the chicken had very large piece of skin attached to it. I'm not saying it's not good, some may think this is the best part of fried chicken but considering the portion of the dish, I'd rather trade that giant piece of skin for a bite of meat. Surprisingly very small portion... Well you could get full by finishing the lump of mashed potato but the three tiny pieces of chicken.. Oh man, let's go to Popeyes afterwards.. Overall it's okay, not amazing, probably not coming back
