I had an amazing stay at Haka House Hostel, the location was superb! right in town and easy access to the wharf and shops. Also quiet and soundproof during the night. I couldn't get bored of the view as I really loved the view from the Kitchen and Lounge area since it had an amazing, breathtaking view overlooking towards the nearby island and the open sea. The room had comfortable beds but it was small and quite hot since there was no air condition or window to open however there was a fan provided to use whilst in the room but it didn’t seem to cool down the room much so it was hard for me to sleep because of this. I suggest that having air conditioning in the rooms would be much better to prevent the rooms from being hot especially during the summer months. But overall a great hostel if you're looking for a cheap accommodation in Paihia.

Very pleasant stay at Haka, primely situated on the seafront of Paihia. This was very useful for tour meeting points (you basically just have to cross the road) and restaurants/supermarket. Service was very good as well. Staff were friendly - particularly the British general manager who gave a warm welcome on check in and offered useful recommendations about sites in the area. Rooms were decent. Room for improvement certainly but serviceable. Bed could have been a little more comfortable. I didn't encounter any bed bugs as has been reported in other reviews thankfully. One thing I didn't like - although there is storage in the room, there's no option to lock it securely, which made me a little uncomfortable leaving to do activities in the day. Hence why I've given the room 4 stars. The on-site kitchen worked well, had nice views of the harbour and fridges weren't rammed like in other hostels, which was nice. Perhaps a reflection of the time of year since not in high season for another month or 2. Overall very good value.

Had the most amazing stay here, all the staff were so friendly and helpful - gave us loads of good recommendations! Location was also so good, right in the centre and by the wharf. Kitchen was clean and had a great view, as was the social area. The rooms were quite small and very hot - due to no air con or window that opened. The staff did provide a fan but this didn’t do much, can imagine it would be horrible in peak summer. But overall very nice, would return again, thank you!!

I was really disappointed with my stay. The facilities were noticeably dirty, which made the whole experience uncomfortable from the start. On top of that, the rooms had no windows, so there was no fresh air. It made the room feel extremely hot and stuffy, even with the fan on. The location was one of the highlights of my stay. It’s close to everything, restaurants, shops, and public transport, making it really convenient to get around. Whether you’re exploring the area or just need easy access to the essentials, this spot is perfect.

Cheerful, pleasant hostel in the heart of Paihia. Haka Lodge was a YHA Hostel and retains the ambience and character of the YHA which is to its credit. The staff are helpful and willing to offer advice about things to see and do in the area as well as recommending places to eat around the town. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet with an ensuite. For those travelling on a budget a recommended hostel.

I really enjoyed my stay at Haka House. The rooms and facilities are great and there are fantastic views from the kitchen and common room area. Jonah and Holly were both super friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend staying at Haka House if you are looking for a base in the Bay of Islands
