Haka House Christchurch

Excellent place to stay if you’re a backpacker! It’s very cheap, but I was surprised at what it is for the price. The location is amazing and is about a 10 minute walk from New Regent Street for breakfast. The bus that goes directly to the airport is right by the backpackers as well. Beds are very comfy and come with a privacy curtain. The only downside is that the female room has one bed without a curtain, which I didn’t like/expect. The guy on reception was very kind and upgraded me to another room without any extra cost which I was very thankful for. The guests were very quiet and there’s an area to meet fellow backpackers if you want to. I highly recommend coming here, it was a great experience. It’s better than most backpackers which cost more.

I stayed in a 4-bed dorm, which wasn’t super spacious but definitely comfortable enough for everyone. The kitchens are well-sized for the number of guests and I was pleasantly surprised by how many cooking utensils they have — all in great condition, which made cooking easy and enjoyable. The common areas like the dining room, lounge, and pool table are really cozy and perfect to relax in. You’ll always find someone smiling and happy to chat, which adds to the warm atmosphere of the place. While the bathrooms aren’t always spotless, there are several on each floor, so you can always find a clean one available when needed. I spent a great week here and really want to highlight how friendly and welcoming the staff are. Special shout-out to Diego from Argentina — super kind and helpful! I had a fantastic stay at this hostel! The place is clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. The bed was cozy, making it easy to relax and get a good night's sleep. The bathroom and kitchen were spotless. The overall vibe was friendly and welcoming, and the staff were super helpful. Definitely a great place to stay if you're looking for comfort and cleanliness at an affordable price. Would absolutely recommend! Ps. this is not a party hostel

Do not stay here if you like your accommodation to be clean. I checked in to my first room and found it damp and teeming with ants. They allowed me to change rooms and then I found my second room is unclean - cobwebs and just plain dirty. However, the communal areas are well kept and the staff are friendly.

First time staying and what a wonderful night. Had a lovely sleep. Friendly and helpful staff. Love to stay again in my future visit in Christchurch!

Don't bother even arriving a minute early to this hostel and expect to check in despite the room being ready. The attitude of the guy on reception was appalling claiming I was rude when all I wanted was to be let into my room which very obviously was ready 10 mins before check in time, the jobs worth just didn't want to let me in until 2pm on the dot which is what he did. Then the manager was equally as rude coming into the kitchen to reignite the situation almost turning it into a blazing row in front of other guests. I had to defuse it myself before we started fighting. Very unprofessional! Appalling customer service. I have stayed in many hostels and hotels all around the world and I've always been let in early if the room is ready, the room clearly was ready these guys are just absolute jobs worths so il never be staying here again. Shocking!

Great location, close to the Botanical gardens, restaurants, IntercCity bus stop is 10min away. The rooms are very well equipped and clean. Staff friendly and eager to help.

Very nice hostel ! I stayed in the Girl 3 Beds dorm and it was very pretty. Two beds even had a curtain for privacy. The whole hose was extremely clean and staff was very nice. You can also leave your bag there over the day.
