Another good HH. Busy staff with good management. Overall clean and i liked the lounge/kitchen area. I was lucky I was at the far end of the building. Anywhere close to reception and it will be loud. Be wary, if there's a big group/s, they will take over, especially in the morning. My only gripe are the beds that creek everytime you move, but Wellington HH had this issue too.

Nice facilities, clean beds, easy check-in and very close to the city centre. Staff however seem disinterested and were inattentive. I had to pay for my own parking and later found out that they offered free parking in conjunction with your stay

Great price, nice room, but probably one to avoid in the summer, super hot with no ac or fan, windows only open a tiny bit, which then introduces a ton of bugs come evening. It's right on a larger road, but the noise wasn't noticeable at night.

Great service by the friendly and professional staff. The room (2 people) was very very small and the bathroom was extremely small/tiny. There’s no airconditioning so fresh air needs to come in through windows, same way as all the bugs are coming in. Walls are very thin, heaps of noise from upstairs neighbours (snoring, packing, remodelling the whole room at some point around 10-11 pm - I guess). Not the best value for money wise.

It used to be YHA hostel, the rooms look more modern now. Can be a bit noisy at times but location is good. You can park on the streets but you need to move your car before 9am weekdays and Saturday.

Location was in a place accessible to the city centre however the room had a weird smell and the toilet blinds did not work. The worst part was the smell from it. The walls are paper thin and we could hear our neighbour showering or having a conversation.

Really sad to have to write this, as the building itself was lovely, spacious, clean, and set up for a good stay. However as a solo 19 year old female traveller. I booked a 4 man Female dorm. I then had a Man enter the room and stay for the nights I was there I didn't realise the first night as I got up early and he turned up late. however, the second night I saw him and was rightfully concerned and scared and my dorm was a Female dorm. When I bought this up with reception all that could be said was, 'I apologise it was a foreign name so I couldn't tell'. The only check they did was by name? This man had specifically booked a female dorm. In the end, they compesated me 10% amounting to around 6nz dollars. Something like this has put fear in me for travel onword if a female dorm can be easily booked out by men. Very disappointed with haka house despite its lovely vibe.

Let’s start with the pros: Location was great, rooms were clean although the bathrooms could do with a deeper clean as we found hairs on the wall (we had the double room) . The towels felt new and luxurious for a hostel, as did the sheets and duvet. The bed was comfy. The kitchen was large and clean. Cons: unfortunately, it is impossible to sleep here. You’ll be taunted early morning by people leaving the hostel, speaking loudly and inconsiderably , slamming the exit gate which overlooks the majority of rooms. This is also an issue at night. This is a serious design flaw of the hostel. A potential solution could be that the hostel could do more by asking guests to be considerate when they check in and with more signage asking guests to keep their voices down whilst outside/leaving. The double rooms are tiny and difficult for more than a few nights for two people due to lack of space. The rooms are also so hot and need fans or AC. Parking- the hostel charge for their car park which seems stingy given it’s a hostel and many people drive. They also fail to initially mention that you can park for free by the park just 1 min walk away (instead promoting the paid car park option). From a social perspective, whilst the hostel was busy I felt the hostel could have done more to bring people together socially. Finally, staff only are on reception until 6. Be aware of this if you want to check in later than this as you may struggle to do so without notifying reception in advance. We heard one person late at night, trying to check in asking for help which no one was able to do (as no staff are around). Even during the day, we found that one of the receptionists would hide in the private office (next to reception) for most of the day, rather than be visible to help on reception. I regretted staying here and wouldn’t recommend
