Great hostel with a very kind service and convenient location. The kitchen has a very nice indoor and outdoor seating. Has the nicest laundry room and cleanest washing machines of all the hostels I've been in NZ (this is a good opportunity to wash 😄) Other than the other haka hostels it has no front door to be locked at night so make sure you're room door is closed/locked. Bathrooms could be cleaner but nevertheless a good place to stay as a solo traveller.

You genuinely won’t get a minutes sleep here. There is no noise insulation anywhere. You can hear every conversation, every step, every flush, the washing machine, glasses cheering, etc. It’s a dumb layout, rooms are below a kitchen and tv room and everything faces into a courtyard that just amplifies the noise. Which goes on all night. It’s the worst I’ve ever seen. And for those sleeping early for a hike, guarantees you’ve ruined your next day. You will genuinely risk your holiday staying here. Terrible. We bit the bullet and shortened our stay paying for two hotels to not ruin another day staying here again.

Absolutely lovely staff, very friendly and knowledgeable of the area. The location was perfect to get to a number of places such as the bungy and Huka Falls, both worth a visit. The hostel is split into the main building and then a smaller building, both were great with adequate kitchens and social spaces.

Stayed two nights this long weekend. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The location is great, 10 minutes walk from downtown and not too far from the waterfront. The rooms are a little small, but warm and perfect if you're after a decent price for close proximity to town. The cooking facilities are clean and tidy. If you're bringing a car, there is a limited amount of parking on site, so be prepared to park on the street. Overall, a great experience and will be back if in Taupo again.

One of the terrible stays we ever been in. We got one of the rooms in ground floor. Right above us was I think a kitchen or some sort . Loudest noises of chairs moving , people cooking and walking and even the usage of sink was very loud in our room. Was very hard to sleep or to even sit peacefully for 10 min. I will not recommend this lodge especially if you are going to stay in one of the ground floor rooms

This is so close to the Township of Taupo, just a few streets to all the major shops and lake. It reminds me of a skiing lodge. Beds were very comfortable and a huge kitchen with all utensils pots and pans available. Id highly recommend a stay here. Undercover parking is available. Staff are the best, very helpful and friendly I couldn't complain about one thing. The views from the varanda is fantastic. I'll be staying there again

Excellent service from the staff at Haka Hotel. The accommodation is budget, clean and has everything you really need if travelling on a budget. Would happily stay here again.

Great backpackers, with clean facilities. Rooms were warm on arrival, especially when it was a -3degree overnight. Some frost in the morning did make some areas slippery, but that is expected. We had an 8 dorm bunk room, 5 dorm bunk room and a 4 bedroom suite. All had own ensuites, although very small and close to sleeping areas. The 5 dorm bunk was compact. Beds were comfy. Linen and blankets provided in all rooms, and only the 4 bedroom came with towels. So bring towels for other rooms. There are lots of stairs as well. Plenty of areas to entertain around. Check in was easy and staff very helpful. Note 8 dorm room is in a separate building to the 5 and 4 bedrooms.
