Who ever comes across this review please read, I would just love to share my not so good time at the Haka Lodge. The room I was staying in was ATROCIOUS there were 3 spiders and a cockroach in my pillow case and the room was covered in dust and condom rappers were found under my bed. In the morning I had I took the sheets off the mattress and was greeted by multiple bed bugs and some tics that had clearly tickeled me in the night as my skin was in distress and had gotten into my knickers !!! the bed I had slept on was as hard as a pile of bricks, it was very dirty as well as it had white sticky stains on it. I was very concerned for my well being staying there as an old man had tried to break into my room from outside my window screaming that he was going to suck my toes, as a vulnerable 28 year old woman going into this place on my own I was so scared for my safety.

Best hostel we have stayed in since we arrived in NZ a couple of months ago. Rooms are immaculate, bed comfortable. Shower areas are modern and spotlessly clean. Good kitchen, large lounge with new comfortable sofas, good plasma TV with sky sports! Staff very relaxed and friendly. Definitely worth booking if in Christchurch.

Had a great stay at Haka Lodge! We were there at winter and it was a very cold and rainy day and the kitchen was a bit cold in the morning. But warm water in the shower did really balance that. Windows are a bit thin, so you could hear the street a bit, but all houses in NZ are not very much insulated as at our home. Staff was nice and friendly!

Rooms are well equipped and clean. Common spaces are very nice! The hostel is quiet and in a beautiful setting. One down side is it is a little far from the CBD. However there are plenty of restaurants and stores nearby

Absolutely fantastic place. Staying in self contained apartment next to house, sharing with another couple. Excellent value for money, super clean, far exceeded expectations. Out of city, bus from airport. Purple bus get off at St John's rd ( ferry rd is the main rd) walk down St Johns to end, take a left and first house on corner. $4./8 Go into Sumner beach, next stop down on same bus!! Cheers Haka!

One of the best hostel’s I resided at in New Zealand. Andy went above and beyond to make our stay impeccable. The entire lodge makes for a home vibe, instead of just a place to crash at. Extremely clean, well kept and organized. Saying this after experiencing 5-6 different hostels during my trip in South Island. Do not hesitate to book! If you’re part of haka tour and will stay here inevitably, then look forward to kicking back and having your needs taken care of here.

Great place for foreign visitors, or people only staying in chch for a night. Has a strict no children allowed policy. So if you have children this isn't an option but if you're a couple that like child-free environments then this is definitely worth considering. Only thing is, this is more of a hostel style living. Shared bathrooms and showers (unsure of ensuite options) and a shared kitchen/dinning area. Great vibrant staff. Has free WiFi and great outdoor seating spaces. Not so great parking though. Very limited space.

Things I liked: plenty of street parking on a dead end, quiet, friendly staff. Interesting separation of dorm beds...all twin beds, no bunks, two per separated section. You have to walk through the sections to get to the end with three beds, but still gives a little privacy if you're traveling with another person. Things not so great: Third floor dorm was sooooo hot. It had been a warm day and it was unbearable. I can't imagine what it would be like during summer (stayed end of Sept). Only two main bathrooms on 2nd floor. There is a backup bathroom on the first floor, but going down all those stairs isn't very convenient. Almost too quiet...could be bc it's off season. The location (other than lots of parking) isn't the closest to places. You can walk 10 mins to the Twisted Hop and the grocery store. But everything else is a bit of a hike. Relatively short drive, but if you're looking to drink, uber or The Hop are your options.
